How Disney feels about Universal?

I applied for both a seasonal job at WDW and Universal. I haven't heard anything back on WDW yet and haven't gotten an E-mail saying to do the WBI. However, Universal E-mailed me back and told me I could come work there for attractions in the summer. I am applying for the CP Spring 2012 and was wondering how Disney would look at it when they see that I worked for Universal. Would it be bad? or would it be good since I already had expierence in a big attraction park? Any advice would be helpful and thanks in advance.

I don't think Disney would ever look down on you for working at Universal- even if they are friendly rivals! I'm sure Disney and Universal would both gladly accept former employees/cast members from each other because -even though Disney is better- they're really very similar 'amusement park'-wise. Working at Universal is great experience if you want to work at Disney and that's all they'll care about.

Disney doesn't mind at all. In fact you're even allowed to work at both Disney and Universal at the same time. Same goes for Sea World or Busch Gardens. I knew severel people who were seasonal so they could get free tickets or would work Halloween Horror Nights, etc.
I also knew several people on the CP who had worked at different themeparks like Six Flags Great Adventure or Cedar Park.

I applied to both as well, but won't be moving out to orlando until early June. I got an e-mail from Universal telling me to call a specific number and e-mail approximately a week before I come down. I know that thats not necessarily an offer from them, but it is promising. Is that what you got?

It should be noted that Universal Orlando Resort is an organisation in direct competition with the Walt Disney World Resort. As such, one cannot hold a Management-level position at one while being employed at the other.

Other than that, it is perfectly acceptable from Disney's perspective to work at both resorts. Many Cast Members and Team Members indeed do just that. It also certainly wouldn't affect your application if you left one on good terms and went to apply to the other. Many Cast Members and Team Members do that as well

And many former Cast Members (including both those that left on good terms, and some that were "asked to leave") are now Team Members.

I remember seeing a very simply done billboard at the corner of 535 and 535, (right near the Ale House, which is a long-time cast hangout). It featured a Universal logo and 3 words. "We Pay More." Didn't take a genius to figure out who that billboard was targeted at.

I got that email as well since I was still living in Tallahassee when I applied. When I responded by email, within 24 hours they gave me the link to set up an interview time. Now to make the decision of going to an interview, since I got hired at WDW the day before my scheduled interview at Universal (they let you reschedule once if you cancel)

I know quite a few CMs who got fed up with Disney and "defected" to Universal so to speak... I also know one girl who was asked to leave Universal for her bad attitude and was recently hired by Disney. So yeah.

I work for both - LOVE IT! Disney knows I work at Universal and vica versa... nothing secretive!

I'm not sure if this is true. I know an OL&D Manager that works at Univ. I also know a Costuming Manager (at WDW) who is also an Entertainment Manager at Univ. Both speak very openly about it.

Even though I wasn't a "Manager," I was a salaried consultant (blue ID) when I applied at Universal and my managers encouraged me to apply anyway.

That's good to know. I've always heard that it was verboten because of the fear that one could leak trade secrets from one to the other; but if they're comfortable about it, all the more power to them.

I've always wanted to get a second job at UO. I actually live closer to it than I do Disney (as in I could possibly walk to the Gate 2 entrance-close). If it doesn't cause any issues for anyone, I might just apply, lol.

MANY CMs also work at Universal. The mind process here is that if you aren't getting enough OT from one of them, you can just go to the other.

I think it would only enhance your application, seeing that it would display that you have theme park experience.
