That's right! It's the trip report that post-Disney burnout, three computer viruses, two Mass Effects, and a broken ankle couldn't stop! This one! YAAAAAAAY! Mayhem! Temper Tantrums! Fighting sisters! Pictures of a cute little girl! Star Wars references! Eric Clapton! Okay, maybe not Eric Clapton, but maybe!

Nope, right on time!

Sounds promising!popcorn::

I sure hope so! :goodvibes

You had me at Nonsense and Mayhem.

We here at Turkey Lurkey Enterprises specialize in Nonsense and Mayhem. It's our bread and butter.

Yeah, I've been a fan for a while (particularly of the Daleks), but I've only recently started watching with regularity. I dig the way Matt Smith portrays the Doctor. I really wish I would have picked up a fez while we were at EPCOT. Maybe next time.

Episode 1: Leaving on a Jet Plane (Original Air Date: Saturday, January 22, 2011)

"I'd forgotten how much I hate space travel!" -- C-3PO

After months of waiting the day had finally arrived! We were going to Disney World! We had packed up everything the night before, so it was just a matter of packing up the van and heading out. After 3 or 4 idiot checks, that's exactly what we did as early as we could. It was only an hour drive to the airport, but we had an errand to run first. Disney on Ice was coming to the area and I was able to score some free passes for us. We just had to stop by the box office to trade them in at the box office. I figured since we were going to be down there, might as well take care of that as well.

We arrived in Green Bay with plenty of time to spare, so we head down by the Resch Center to pick up the tickets. I hopped out of the car and ran up to the building to find it closed...please call for Saturday hours. So I called the number listed. "Call back during business hours." So how do I find out when business hours are if they only give them out during business hours? I hoped this wasn't a taste of things to come.

We left that disappointment behind and went to a nearby IHOP for breakfast. I hadn't been to one in a long time, and was in the mood for pancakes. It wasn't very busy so we had quick service and a very nice meal. DD entertained the entire section with a loud, repetative version of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star". Oh, the flight was going to be fun.

Got to the airport with little difficulty, parked the van in the extended stay lot and checked in. We would be flying to O'Hare, with a two hour layover before heading to Orlando. DD was in a good mood, and I hoped she stayed that way. She can be a little squirrelly when forced to sit still for a while.

"Stop taking pictures, daddy, I wanna GO!"

We boarded our plane, thankfully it was not a puddle jumper like we had the last time DW and I went to Disney. I'm not a fan of flying, and the smaller the plane the worse the anxiety. As it was, I did get a doozy of a headache in the short time it took to land at O'Hare. It did not make the following any easier.

Once we landed, we discovered that our connecting gate was not the next one over like I had originally thought, but instead all the way across the airport. A shuttle ride thankfully cut some of the trip time, but we still had a long ways to walk. DD was starting to get cranky from all the walking, and the dizzyness from the first plane ride still hadn't subsided, so I was a bit out of sorts when an older gentleman bumped into me. I offered a quick apology and we moved on.

Wait...who was that? Was...was that Eric Clapton that bumped into me? Seriously? Naw, couldn't be.... But it did look an awfully lot like him, and he did have quite a group a round him. But alas, our time was short. We had to get to the gate for our connecting flight. (I know, I know, I should have stopped to check, but Disney > Slow Hand, sorry. If it had been Ian Anderson or "Weird Al" Yankovic, it might have been a different story).

The trip to Orlando was similarly uneventful. DD did a great job on the plane ride, considering it was her 1st time. We arrived at the same gate that DW and I arrived at back on 04 for our honeymoon trip. After a quick bathroom break, at a bit of confusion to where we were actually supposed to go, we made it to the Magical Express and walked right on the bus. The nausea and dizziness had subsided, replaced by a creeping giddiness. Palm trees. Sunshine. Green grass. We were in Florida! Disney bound!

The sun set as we made our way to the All Star Music. I did the online check-in, so I hopped in that line. We got our celebration buttons and a ream of stickers for DD. The CM then pointed out our room. I did a double take. When I did the online check in, I had requested ground level, close to the buses. I knew it wasn't a guarantee, but with a 3 year old that would no doubt need to be carried back to the room several times that week, my arms were really hoping for it. Plus, when DW and I were there for our Honeymoon, I requested Broadway and we got Calypso. So my hopes were high.

That's why I was a bit surprised and quite disappointed when I discovered that we were nearly the exact opposite. Luke's description of Tatooine to C-3PO was in my mind as we headed to our room, in the outback of the ASMu. The very last room on the top floor of Country. Oy.

We head back to our room and my brother calls to make sure we made it okay. I learned of his lost camera issues. We made our plans to meet up on Friday. We dropped off our luggage in the hotel room, oh boy that was going to be a hike, and headed back to the main building to grab a bite to eat. We got our resort mugs and meals (Chicken Penne Alfredo for DW and I, grilled cheese for DD) and relaxed. The alfredo was pretty good! Much better than I really expected. We finished off our late supper with Mickey Bars...oooh baby! I miss the old kind we used to get at the grocery store that had Mickey's face and only the ears were chocolate covered. But it was still great!

After dinner, we headed to the Maestro Mickey's to browse, get DD a pair of sunglasses, and to turn DD's piggy bank money into a gift card. As we looked around, I spotted a display of the Disney Star Wars figures! GLEE! And they had a two pack of Emperor Stitch and Darth Goofy! JOY!! And there were plenty of them, so I'd have no problem getting one before we left. GLEEJOY!!!

We purchased DD a pair of Little Mermaid sunglasses, got the gift card and headed back to the room. We all wanted to head to bed early as we had a big day set for EPCOT the next day, starting off with a 8:15 AM breakfast with the Princesses at the Akershus!

"I'm too excited (and cute) to sleep!"

Next Time on A Very Turkey Trip Report: EPCOT!

We'll I'm entertained so far so I'm joining in. Your DD is adorable!!!

But come on, Eric Clapton at least deserves a double take!

Thanks and Welcome!

Oh, he got a triple take, and a slight pause, but DW was power walking to the gate, and if I lingered any longer, I would have lost her. :lmao:

Enjoying your TR so far! It amazes me the people you see in the airport...

Sorry about your room location. It is still in Disney World though. Look forward to seeing more!

I actually got to like our room location, as long as we weren't traveling to or from it. :rotfl:

If I told you now, that would spoil the rest of the report! :upsidedown:

Greetings! I LOVE WDW in January. We went in 2004 during this time too, and our next trip will be planned for the same time. Sure it's colder (but still warmer than Wisconsin), and the chance of rain is greater, but that can be planned around. The advantages far outweigh the disadvantges, IMHO.

I'm in and excited! :woohoo::banana:

It would have been really impressive if you ran into Eric Clapton at Austin Straubel, instead of O'hare. Of course, he's probably telling his friends about the time he's pretty sure he ran into Turkey Lurkey, but wasn't quite sure if it was him or not and didn't want to bother him to ask. :thumbsup2

Ahoy hoy!

Yeah, I'm sure he's right now writing an awesome song about it. :lmao:

While we didn't see Clapton there, we were at Austin Straubel while the Packers were there on their way to Chicago for the Championship game the next day. We didn't actually see them ourselves, but we did see their plane taxiing to their gate.
