Need a lil help please....I keep reading posts about the long walks involved @ CSR from room to EL Centro..I askd my travel agent about a preferred room and she said one wa not available to purchase with my free dining offer, but we could request one and hope for the best...Does anyone have any tips that I can use before my trip in June '11,to insure we get a room closer to El Centro and the Pool area...She said when I check in, I can also request a room at Cabanas or Casitas and maybe they could accomodate my request...That just doesnt seem like much of a guarantee to me...Is there anything I can do beforehand? If we are stuck in the very back of the resort, I wonder if POFQ wouldnt be a better choice? PLEASE HELP!!! THANKS!!

There is an internal shuttle system. I have never stayed there but from the reviews I have read it is pretty decent and the grounds can not be beat.

You can't be close to the main themed pool AND El Centro. The Preferred Location rooms are located in Cabanas 8 & 9 and Casitas 1-3 but they're not by the themed pool. The pool is closer to Ranchos 7--but that's quite a hike from El Centro. You just can't win at Coronado Springs!

This is a huge resort, and quite beautiful, and since its my favorite I probably spend a couple of weeks a year there (and am checking in again next Sunday.) I like Casitas 4 and 5, even though its a bit of a walk. The landscaping and theming of this resort is very peaceful and I don't mind the distance. If the weather is not that great I just cut through the buildings.

So don't despair if you're not in what you think to be an ideal location, because there really is not one at Coronado Springs. :)

OK I'm going to give my definate bias opinion, so no flames please. We stayed at POFQ last year and CSR this year. CSR is beautiful. We put in a request for Casitas based on advice from Dis. I also called a few days after I checked in online to make sure our request showed up. It did and we were indeed in Casitas. However, I really don't think any location would have been a "good" one at CSR. The place is huge. We did not use our refillable mugs at all except for one time because we were just sooooooo far away from everything. Aside from other issues, we will not return to CSR the main reason being the enormity of it. We will be going back to POFQ next year and have scrapped any ideas of trying any other "large" resort.

There is no internal shuttle system any longer. There used to be golf carts, but they stopped that awhile ago. You can, however, get on any park bus at the closest stop to your room and get off at El Centro (which is the last stop before the buses head to the theme parks). Although I think that would take longer than walking.

Preferred rooms are in Casitas 1, 2, 3. The Cabanas are not preferred rooms.

We've stayed at CSR three times (4th coming up in 19 days!) and in my opinion, the size of CSR is vastly over-stated. I just don't think it's that big a deal. We stayed in Ranchos last time and it took us maybe 10-15 minutes to walk to El Centro at most. We've stayed in the Cabanas twice and it was less than 10 minutes. We also stayed at POFQ once and I personally thought it was cramped. I felt like the buildings were on top of one another and too close together. My personal opinion.

We like the Cabanas section - it's less than 10 minutes to El Centro and less than 10 to the main pool. We've not stayed in the Casitas before.

I was at CSR in Sept. and was worried after reading about how spread out the resort is.
Honestly, dh and I didn't think it was bad at all! I'm booked there for next week, and also a Sept. trip. I think a good area to request is cabanas 8a or 8b. You'll be close to the main pool, a bus stop, and a short & lovely walk across the bridge to get to El Centro. :)

Thanks so much for all the comments!!! Very helpful!! I guess it looks like I will be suggesting Cabana's 8A or 8B...What are my chances of actually getting that in June '11??? I guess it is just a chance you have to take huh? Thanks again!!

We have always had our requests met, or a building very close to our request (this is in nine stays). Unfortunately, if not paying for preferred, the Cabanas are one of the most sought after locations. However, when you get your room assignment, you can always ask if they have something closer to what you requested if you don't get it to begin with.

So are the Cabanas considered Preferred? When I booked our ressies there was only preferred rooms left but we want to be close to the dig site for my 3 kids. Not sure what to request at this point:confused3

No, the Cabanas are not preferred. Preferred rooms are in Casitas 1, 2 and 3 -- these are the three buildings closest to El Centro (registration, food, lounge and gift shop).

We are staying at CSR for the first time in August (SO EXCITED!!) I found this info really helpful (from the CSR thread, see below). My family and I walk around our neighborhood every night after dinner in the summertime. I clocked our little walk, it's a mile exactly! That put the distances in perspective for me:goodvibes

The distance around the whole lake is just under a mile (.97 miles).

Walking Distances
From El Centro moving clockwise around the lake path to:
Casitas 3 = .16 miles
Casitas 4 = .24 miles
Casitas 5 = .27 miles
Ranchos = .46 miles

From El Centro to the Dig Site, via the bridge near the Cabanas
= .35 miles

From El Centro moving counterclockwise around the lake to:
Cabanas 9B = .16 miles
Cabanas 9A/8B = .22 miles
Cabanas 8A = .31 miles
Rancho 7b = .35 miles

WOW!! Such great info!!! I really appreciate you all commenting on this...This will be extremely helpful!!! I had thought about changing to POFQ, but you all have confirmed my first instincts...I will have a car on property that I can use to go to EL Centro if needed...Thanks again so much!!!!!
