Planning on renting DVC Fall 2012.

Talk came up of a adult only trip this fall.
I'm out my $200 if we plans fall through for fall 2011 trip? Can't apply that to renting, right? Can we use the $200 fall 2012, for anything or our we completely SOL?

Wow, that's confusing!!

BTW... keeping this on the down low as another adult is on the disboards trying to keep the trip from him/her...

Did you book through Disney or book through a DVC member?

Just to clarify, because I'm not quite awake this morning :) .....what would the $200 deposit be for?

If you're talking about a deposit on renting a DVC reservation from a member, all payment terms are between you and the member. Since it's a private transaction between two individuals, there aren't any hard-and-fast rules. The member may require the full payment up front, or might be willing to take a deposit, or might not ask for a deposit at all. The deposit might be refundable, or it might not be. These are all things you'll need to discuss with the member you decide to rent from.

If you're talking about making a reservation with Disney, and then cancelling it and renting from a DVC member, the $200 deposit you give Disney can't be used towards a rental. Again, since DVC rentals are private transactions, Disney doesn't get involved in them at all.

Thanks... your second paragraph sums it up. 2 trips, Sept 2011 and Nov 2012. The second being the DVC rental. What you posted was exactly what I thought.

It's a long shot to cancel for this fall, but IF we do.. we are just out the $200 deposit we would have via Disney (not private rental)

Is that clear as mud?
:rotfl:

You should get the deposit back as long as you are within the time frame to cancel to get the deposit back.

If you have a package with Disney, you can get your deposit back if you cancel more than 45 days out. (That's $200.)

If you have a room-only reservation with Disney, you can get your deposit back if you cancel more than 5 days out. (That's a one-night's stay, so it isn't necessarily $200.)

Disney doesn't care if you're renting points instead of paying them cash, or if you're not coming at all. The rules for refunds don't change.

If you purchase a DVC reservation from a member, they might not offer any cancellation at all. They set the terms.
