WooHoo-Christmas Party

Oops.... Just saw your date. We wouldn't be there until that last insane party week again. :scared1:

Our 40th wedding anniversary is in October and the DW was given the option of location and time. She immediately chose WDW (Hawaii, cruise, Carribbean resort were options, GO FIGURE) and was torn between the Halloween and Christmas parties. She loves them both but finally opted for the Christmas decorations. We arrive at POP Century (our favorite resort) on Nov. 27th through Dec. 4th.

BTW, nice shots.

Thanks! Love your shots too!

Congrats on the anniversary! And BTW..... she made a fine choice. :goodvibes

I only preferred Halloween because we've done Christmas trips twice and Halloween only once. Well, that and the costume thing. :rotfl2: But most of the time it's too hot for costumes anyway. It most ASSUREDLY was not too hot when I took the above photos. As I recall, it was around 25 and breezy! :scared1: But it wasn't nearly as hard to find a spot by the castle as I expected! :lmao:

You doing anything else special while you're there?

I'm hoping they will announce the Candlelight Processional dates soon. We're hoping to do the dinner package for that at Chef de France. We did the Coral Sea dinner package last time. We haven't decided whether we are going to do the Fantasmic package, since we have done it the past two times at Mama Melrose (one of our favorites). As far as other ADR's, we haven't decided. I have to the end of May before I can make the reservations. We will be going over to Universal (I know, heresy) for a day to see Harry Potter. That's all that is planned for now.

Well, keep an eye on the other DIS forums. As I recall, last year it was July or August before the announced the dinner packages for the CP. And they went really fast. We still haven't done it, but might consider it this time. We're back and forth about Universal too.

We need to get our 10 year old HP fan over there while she still cares. It's just so hard to justify the extra transportation and ticket cost on top of everything else. And mostly up to this point, I've been wanting to avoid the huge crowds. Maybe it's not too much to hope for it to die down a little by then????

I'm the HP fan and I didn't want the DW to be confused or cause any misinterpretation, so I made it clear that the only reason for going to Universal was to see HP. We will not be taking the Universal form of fastpass because I want to see the entire ride through the queue. The plan is to go early see HP and then whatever else. Then head back for the Christmas party. They say it takes about an hour or so to see the whole thing. Since we have never been to Universal, I think we will purchase their version of the park hopper to just to get an overview of the parks and ride what we can. I have heard they are more restrictive of photography than Disney. I'll probably only bring a scaled down 'kit' with me.

I just purchased our tickets an hour ago for November 30th too!! It will be our first MVMCP. We have been to the MNSSHP and loved it so we are looking forward to this one.

We've done Universal and IOA but it's been a number of years. Their Seuss land is amazing and I would look forward to seeing it again. I just haven't figured out if there's time or money for it this time. I don't care much about HP :scared1: but my daughter would, so I'd love for her to see it. And honestly, Scott's photos have certainly raised my interest in it.

And you make a good point. If we do it, I'll have to scale back what I bring for the day. I'd need to fit it in a locker for a ride or 2 from what I understand.

I'm completely envious!

No disney trips on the horizon for me...so you will all have to take lots of pictures and come back on post on the Dis so that I can live vicariously through you. :goodvibes

ENJOY :cool1: :cool1:

This will be our second. In 2008 it was cold for Florida. Pack some warm clothes to layer! Do you think if we don't tell anyone else, that we will be there by ourselves?:rotfl2:

Thanks for the advice on clothing, and was going to research other threads for that information. We have never been to Disney in November-December. We usually go Sept-October.

I just purchased our tickets for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party on November 30th! Just a few from the 2008 Party.

AWESOME!! We've done that same week twice. 2005 and 2007. Great week to go, although the last few night are not as fun since that is when the POP Warner and Cheerleaders show up. But other than the food court at the hotel it isn't to bad.

I love the party and all the decorations at all the parks and hotels that time of year. Don't know when we'll be able to go again for x-mas. I miss it.

Were you staying at POP Century when Pop Warner showed up. I thought they stayed at All Stars not POP. They weren't there in 2008.

Eat lunch at Bubba Gump's! :goodvibes Love that place! :lovestruc We contracted with ***** (PM me if you want the name of the company); driver was prompt in morning and right on time for pickup back to our resort. Super photo opps in HP "land" so you want to be prepared. Enjoyed the park (s) -Suess area is awesome for the "under age 4 crowd"- and is so colorful. You could get some magnificent photos. We arrived just as they opened (had pre-purchased tickets) and wait was very short. A few of last years photos below:

I use my 28-70 as my walkaround and I thought I would bring the 30 f1.4. Would that suffice or what lenses would you recommend?

Tell the DW "good choice!" I would go to WDW every chance I get. The weather usually isn't the greatest here in Hawaii around that time anyway... would have a hard time enjoying the sites :)

Is that true about Pop Warner and the Cheerleaders? I was making plans for around that time. My wife and I had our honeymoon at WDW the first couple weeks of February 2008 and that's when the Cheerleaders showed up. So I figured the next time we go back we'll go before then.

Its more about the camera bag for IoA. They have lockers that you put your bags into. I went with the Lowepro ProRunner 200 and it only *just* fitted into the lockers. Anything bigger will be a problem.

Shooting with a Canon, I took the 18 - 55 and the 55 - 250 kit lenses with me; and I also had the 50 f/1.8 with me.

The 30 f/1.4 will be fabulous inside the castle; but you won't want to to on the ride with your camera. There are points where you are almost upside down (not quite...but it sure felt that way). You'll be allowed to walk through the castle without going on the ride...but you'll need to tell the staff that.

Like goopysolelady said..there are lots of photo ops in IoA. Go early...hit WWoHP first and head straight for the FJ ride. And the you can decide what you want to do after that.

I won't repeat shots of the Castle...but this is inside Zonko's.

And I personally prefer the frozen version of Butterbeer..

And random shots around IoA. I wish I had taken more shots there now.
