So, I know this makes no sense, but I figured I'd ask you guys anyway.

My friend called DW a couple of days ago inquiring about specials and apparently one of the CM's said something to the affect of "Oh, there is a special now for a 6 night stay at The Disney Boardwalk for your dates...."

I'm not sure what he's talking about and I didn't hear the conversation, so...

The dates we are going would be the Saturday after Thanksgiving for six nights and seven days (11/26 - 12/02).

Can anyone shed any light on this, or is he just talking crap?

There currently is a general public room-only discount for deluxe resorts for most nights April 22 through August 13. My guess would be that the BWI had rooms available under that discount code for your friend's dates.

That may be it. I would rather stay there than where we are currently booked (Coronado Springs), but I would rather stay almost anywhere else than CSR. A deluxe is simply out of our price range with no special offers and none of the moderates appeal to me, I'd rather be at POP than CSR.

I wonder, would it be worth calling Disney?

Well, as the PP stated (or showed the dates), they haven't released those discounts for your time frame yet -- only through August.

You can go to Mousesavers and see what all the current discounts out there are and what dates they apply to.

However, the only real way to find out if there is discount availability on the resort you want for the dates you want is to either call Disney or run it through the online booking if you can apply the discount that way. You can use Mousesavers to check and see when discounts are released that might fit your time period, but the only way to determine availability once you find out a discount may be applicable is ask Disney. Your friend may have also gotten a PIN code but you must receive one of those personally to be able to use it, or call Disney to see if they have one applicable to you.

The last few times I've called Disney lately checking out prices but not booking anything they have told me the same thing for different resorts.
The first time it was a "special" at the All Star Sports which was actually a couple hundred dollars cheaper and the second time it was a "special" at the Poly. I didn't know if the Poly was a good deal or not because I hadn't priced it out before hand. I might have taken them up on one of the specials however I have 2 other families coming with me and I didn't have a chance to talk to them first.
