We've moved up our cruise to earlier date.
We did Disneyland in 2009 and I had been before that also and we just loved it, can't wait to go back, but trying to keep it from DS5 is difficult, little boy has big earsHi Becpee, welcome to the cruise! LOL - we beat you, we booked this cruise in August!
I'm sure your DS will have a blast at Halloween in Disneyland and on the cruise. Are you going to do the Halloween party at Disneyland, or just plan on trick or treating on the ship? If you can manage it, I recommend going to the party, it's SUPER fun! You buy a pass for it, they close down the park at about 6:00 and only people with party passes can get it. Then, they have lots of events, villain and character meet and greets, and candy stations where you walk around and trick-or-treat at stations around the park. Not to mention my favorite part about Disneyland at Halloween - the seasonal foods and desserts! YUM! I've read that the cruise ship will also have the characters dress up in their Halloween costumes, have a trick-or-treat trail around the ship, play Halloween movies at night up on deck (Disney Halloween movies like Hocus Pocus and Haunted Mansion), and have a dessert Halloween party. We can't wait for it - we're Disney fanatics and have done SO MUCH Disney stuff but have never done it with a child, so it will be a new experience for us as well.
About fish extenders - it is SUPER fun and we may or may not participate. On our last Disney cruise I was actually the "leader" and arranged everything. I put together a little website for our DISers, arranged the fish extenders, arranged group meets, and even created our cruise group logo and wristbands for the sailing. Unfortunately, given that this is our first family cruise and will be our first vacation with our new baby daughter, I don't want to commit the amount of time it takes to arrange all of that. If someone else arranges it we may participate, but I'm going to decline putting it together. Do you want to arrange it or are you looking for someone else to arrange it? With that said, I used to be a travel agent and my husband and I are VERY knowledgeable about nearly everything Disney, so if anyone has any questions we are definitely here to chat and help however we can!
Anyway - we are SUPER excited about this cruise and can't wait! Tell your DH good luck with the Spanish. My husband and I were born and raised in San Diego (near the Mexico border), still live in socal, and have taken Mexico cruises and STILL don't know any Spanish! I guess we're not personally concerned with it because on this particular cruise we may not disembark the ship in any of the ports - we might just enjoy the ship while everyone is off of it. Good luck with learning Spanish though!

We may be able to manage the Halloween party as we'll be leaving on the cruise so will be in LA for one weekend in October anyway, certainly something to think about
Would be great to try all the great Halloween treats as well!
As for the fish extender, i'm not fully sure how it works but I love the idea of treating other people LOL
So i'm not sure i'll be an organizer either, I hope somebody else jumps in there
So, all in all, the trip is getting closer, and we're also trying to figure out where else we're going to head while we're away, San Francisco or maybe Arizona, i've been to both but DH has been to neither so it's weighing things up.
We're also going to Legoland again, DS loved it and constantly talks about it, even after going to Disneyland for a week LOL
I think he liked Legoland better
Hey!If you can make it to the Mickey's Trick or Treat Party I highly recommend it!
May I ask, why Arizona? Just curious, but I've never found much to enjoy in Arizona, unless maybe you have family there or something? I would think that San Diego or somewhere else along the west coast would be more fun. The San Diego Zoo is FANTASTIC. I also recommend the Ruben H Fleet Science Center is Balboa Park is super-fun for kids and adults (not to mention that balboa park is beautiful). Aside from San Francisco, the Monteray Bay Aquarium is good and not too far from San Jose and the Hearst Castle. Or...Vegas is always fun too , they have some phenomenal shows (families or adults) and a couple of yeas ago they opened a national preserve that is really fun for kids. . I guess it really just depends on they types of things you guys like to do. I've never been to Legoland, but we have friends with kids and ALL of their kids love that place - no matter what you decide to do it sounds like you're going to have a great vacation!
We're still more than a year out from the trip, so I'm sure someone will jump in and be willing to organize the fish extenders. Maybe they'll even organize some pre-cruise meets and stuff for people in SoCal or who are coming to SoCal sometime in the next year. We did a couple of Disneyland trips with fellow cruisers before the cruise and it was great - now we have friends for life!
Have you ever been on a Disney Cruise before? (Sorry if you've already said, I can't remember the threads).
Hope you're having a good week!
Hey!
We're just sort of throwing ideas around at the moment, nothing is set, I was pricing out flights to Orlando (bit extravagant )
We did San Diego and it's surrounds a few years ago, it's lovely there, we did a little boat ride out on the harbour there and saw a massive cruise ship and at the time we said "don't think we'll ever do a cruise" LOL
The size of San Diego is very much the same as Melbourne I think, we felt very comfortable there and stayed in a great hotel.
I love San Francisco, my DH wants to do Alcatraz, he loved the movie The Rock LOL so we may still go there, but Vegas is a must, we have been already and love it, saw a couple of shows and will try again next time.
Wish I lived closer to Vegas
I want to see so many places, but we're so far from everything it costs us a small fortune to get anywhere
My DS is dying to go to DisneyWorld, that'll be the next trip, we try for every 3 years for a big trip
There are so many places we want to see!I understand the small fortune, especially since you're traveling here from out of the country. Even living in the U.S., traveling to Disney World has become far too expensive (which is why we're taking this cruise instead). In the last couple of years flights to Orlando have not only doubled in price, but flight schedules have become more limited too. Not to mention ticket prices! We can spend nearly $1,000 in tickets alone just for the two of us!! We were actually supposed to go to Disney World this December but had to cancel because we'll be 8 months pregnant ( ). Truth be told though, we probably would have had to cancel any way, just due to the cost of flights and WDW passes.
Good luck with figuring out where to go, all while staying within a reasonable budget. LOL, that's probably why we don't go far! Since you're making the trip all the way from Australia though, I hope you find some place that will allow you to make the most of your trip! I'll let you know if I think of any suggestions!
There are so many places we want to see!
WDW is a dream for us, one day, after we have another one or two children LOL
The cruise will tell us if we like cruising or hate it LOL
DH is very excited, but it seems so far away!
Time to save!
CHECKING IN.
This would hopefully be our honeymoon cruise. Also, our second with DCL.
I am interested in participating in the FE. But not to arrange it as I am busy planning a wedding.
Hopefully we hear from more people.
Welcome to the cruise and congrats on the engagement! Which ship and itinerary did you do with DCL before?
we did western caribbean on the magic just this past month... I booked 2 cruises while we were on board! Thanks!
