Can anybody give me specifics on the apartments?
The list of rules, the do's and dont's, best advice?
Just curious. :goodvibes

I think its probably pretty basic, no underage drinking, no overnight visitors, no drugs, etc. But something that I found out that surprised me, though I don't know why, is that they monitor your Internet usage. No downloading music, watching movies or doing anything that doesn't fit the Disney code.

That's good to know, I'll have to download any music or movies beforehand

Hmm, that freaks me out a little bit. Do they see every website you go to? What if you're just like watching a movie on youtube or a show on Hulu? What about private stuff like credit card numbers? I understand not allowing illegal downloading but "monitoring" seems like a total invasion of privacy to me, though I don't know the details.

I think they just mean no illegal downloading. and they just 'monitor' it like your college or school would monitor what you are doing on their network

Also you can't have your window open. We actually got written warnings because one of my roommates didn't close the door all the way.

Security is big on noise control too. I remember once my roommate started screaming because of a lizard ( there are lots of lizards in Florida!) and security was called about a noise complaint. I think the apt. next door hated us, but whatever. I've also had to call security on the people up stairs from me doing some crazy loudness in the middle of the night.

...what? That just seems a bit extreme to me. Is there a reason we can't have the windows open?

Most college dorms don't allow you to open your window. At my school they don't allow us to open them because it messes up the a/c system. I also imagine they don't want any of their students to.... er try to fly. If you catch my drift.

I guess I still think it's strange, we were always allowed to open our windows in the dorms I lived in, we just had these thicker mesh screens (more like a thin sheet of metal with small holes punched in it) instead of normal screens.

They don't monitor your internet use, I mean unless you're using one of their computers or something.

Maybe you just never did anything to warrant the block of access? I'm assuming it's their servers, just like many (all?) schools.

I'm sure there are red flags like googling instructions on how to make a bomb but all the normal stuff like downloading music and movies isn't a problem. They aren't overly concerned with your internet use.

I would assume it depends on where you are downloading from. Since you are using their Network and their ISP, if you were to get caught downloading from Torrent sites or the like, the FCC red flag and charges would be sent to the Housing Complex and not to you.

Most College Campuses block torrent sites and even various sites that use too much bandwidth. I actually got my internet shut off once because I downloaded a Patch in World of Warcraft.

So they are not monitoring you in the sense of watching everything you do, but they are probably monitoring your bandwidth usage and have determined certain websites with illegal content as "red flags." Like I'm sure you could probably google anything you want, browse all the non-kiddie porn you can find, or watch Netflix to your heart's content...just don't launch a torrent.

But that's just my guess from my experience at other college campuses. The Mouse might be different.

When I was there I downloaded music and watched movies online and not a thing happened to me, the worst internet related problem I believe I dealt with was slooooow connection at times. Seriously that was it. I mean as the above poster said I'm sure illegal torrents may cause a potential problem but everything else should be dandy.

Well the major reason why they don't want the windows open is because this is Florida. And because of the heat, Florida has bugs. Not your average bugs from home either. So unless you want a home with little creatures flying and/or crawling around the apartment, don't leave the windows open!
There is no point in trying to keep someone from flying out the window. Many of the apartments here have balconies.

Gross. If that's the case I'm happy to keep my window closed. Do people get palmetto bugs? Pretty sure I would pass out if I saw one of those.

...yes. Especially in the summer when it's hot and rainy.

Sooooooo....I'd suggest buying some Raid or something similar before you move in *just in case*
