Hi All,

I'm taking my first cruise on the Fantasy in June 2012!! I can't wait! :cool1: But I'm also worried.. I'm a vegan and I'm worried I'll be eating salad and fruit all day every day.. has anyone traveled on DCL as a vegan?

Check out the menus on the DCL website for the restaurants. While I am not vegan, I have ordered many of the vegetarian options at dinner, and they are incredible. You can see some of the options they have available. Have a great cruise!

There were many vegetarian options on every menu. Check out the website or a Passporter's cruise book for sample menus. They also had a wide variety of pastas that you can always order without the meat on top, just the sauces. This is what my daughter did for several of our dinners.

I'm vegan too and going on my first cruise too. Just let your head server know and I am sure they can accommodate you at the sit down restaurants. WDW does a great job so I am sure DCL does too. I think you (me too, especially since I have food allergies too) will be limited at the buffets and quick service places but at the restaurants you should be fine.

I'll let you know how I do on our cruise this week!

They also can adapt other dishes to be vegi, I have to say that I wasnt that inspired by the choices, sometime sther wasnt even a choice, and I had to a mix and match if there was nothing vegi for a stater or entree, always a choice for main course though.

The difference between vegi and vegan is big - no dairy products, no eggs, no honey and even cane sugar isn't vegan unless it specifically says vegan on it. I'm guessing few things are vegan but again, I am sure they will make something great for her!

Im going on my first disney cruise this summer as a vegan, i cant wait. The disney parks always do really well with special diets so i have full faith in the cruise :goodvibes

I cant wait!!

Really? I never knew that.

I would double-check the pasta's as I'm pretty sure they are made fresh and will contain eggs.

I've seen posts about egg allergies that have brought this up.

I know for a fact that they can accomodate you with dairy free egg free pasta -- my youngest is deathly allergic to dairy, eggs, peanuts, and tree nuts on top of being a celiac and she always eats very well.

The best thing to do is to go to the Rockin' D bar as soon as you get on board to talk to the Head Servers that are there -- they can help you order your dinner for that night and tell you who to look for in Cabanas when you go upstairs for lunch to walk you through and make selections.

They will take care of you and you will eat well.

I was actually going to come and start a thread about this with a warning and just have not taken the time to do it........

We have to say we are actually VERY upset as DCL has changed...... I just wrote them a 2 1/2 page letter telling them I think they are actually going BACKWARDS in this dept. We just got off the ship in March and I have to say, we thought our cruise prior was waaaay better in this dept. Three cruises ago, I wrote DCL with suggestions of ways to have more options for my DD who is allergic to eggs..... The next time we cruised (even though we did have an anaphylaxis reaction on the ship, it still was our best cruise for choices. So last month when we cruised, we just thought everything was the same...... WELL........... NO it was not..... We are back to square one..... ALL of the pasta again has eggs... There were no dry pasta (non-egg) on the ship.... I really hope you are reading this AGAIN DCL.... Not even the bread was ok. We ended up getting some GF/CF dinner rolls (which they gave us frozen and we just kept in our room for the week and toted them everywhere with us). We had to go and ask for them and it took them hours to find them. We even found out to our surprise; the FREAKIN' hashbrowns have eggs in them.... :scared1: Now why would they MESS up a potato by dipping it in egg. We were informd the brand they have is prepackeged this way.... At breakfast, my DD had cold cereal (not a vegan choice) but sausage and toast. The plain white bread even had milk baked in.... We also had a salad issue.... ALL of the salad dressing was EGG or dairy based. They did bring her a bottle of oil and vinger; but what little kid wants this?:confused3 I did get angry with our server when he tried to convience us that the "Thousand Island" dressing was "French". That's ok, though Mommy knew better!;) Not a vegan choice either, but even the pizza crust has eggs.... (Yes, I know vegan people do not eat cheese either....)! SO NOTHING I MEAN NOTHING can you have at pool side, with the exception of fruit and a veggie burger without any bread. Not even the veggie wraps as they have mayo in them. Since they are premade; there is no way you can have them leave the mayo out. (Trust me, I asked)! You can have fruit, fries and a veggie burger without cheese or bread at poolside.

Now in the MDR, also a challenge!!!!! YES DCL knows about my DD's allergies... It is noted EVERYWHERE, we send in the medical form X3, she carries a Epi Pen and she FREAKIN' stop breathing on THEIR ship before, which also comes up in our history... Yes they KNOW.... The CM on the phone even told me as well as my DR HS..... We meet with the chefts and the DR staff ahead of time.... For goodness sake we have done EVERYTHING.... This time I still feel as if they went backwards.... No I can not do dairy and I tell you, no desserts for me this cruise excpt for 2 nights I ordered soy icecream (which gets old).... EVERYTHING else was cream based! For a VEGAN.... Palo is also out.... Can not think of anything besides the champaign you can have at brunch and nothing at dinner.... We stop doing dinner there, because I do not tolerate the sauces.... You can not have the pasta, veal or fish anyway....
***ADDED**** For the person after this that says there is Rice Pasta; we have never been offered this and my DD asked; "Is there not any pasta I can have? I would love mac and cheese like the other kids at my table." Her answer was "No, sorry Princess. It is all fresh pasta." So if they lied to her, let me know....

At cookies on CC, we are Catholic and had Friday on CC, so meat this day was a no go... (Lent) I had a veggi burger and chips. No pasta salads for you, you will have to bring your "special bread off the ship for this option" and CHIPS are ok... No SALADS, no cookies...... Oh they will have some fruit there....

So GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!! Maybe my long letter will make a difference AGAIN and they change for you! As of today it SUCKED! It does really bother me, when people do not get the egg thing.... I rather for people to say, I am sorry I just can not help you! You can not even have a RICE KRISPY Bar.... The marshmellows with gelatin, eggs and the butter makes its a NO GO.... All of the cake also has eggs and butter.... So for people who say they have cruised and stayed 100% from eggs, what did you eat? Only one DISer has answered this and her comment was "my little guy ate a lot of bunless hotdogs; I do not know what that nitrate count was, but it was ok"....

Now, we stayed at WDW after the cruise and can I say, I have always put the cruise at the top..... Well this stay at WDW in th food department, I was on :cloud9::cloud9::cloud9:. We noted our reservation and made ADRs... When we arrived, the first night at dinner, the cheft came out and said "Hi Princess X (her name), I have been waiting for you ALL day... I know every kid likes spaghetti and meatballs, so I have pasta just for you".... He then went on to say, I even made you cookies.... We were "Hooked".... She could not have the veggies as they were in a egg sauce, so he went in the back and brought her some out.... They informed me she could not have the hamburger bun off of the kids menu but could have the adult one :cool1: They had french dressing and I tell you, we fell in :lovestruc.

Now if anyone has specifics besides salad with oil/vinger; veggie burgers with the hope they find bread; fruit; baked potatoes WITHOUT sour cream or butter or french fries...... I would LOVE to hear it..... I have been on a LOT of DCLs and tell you this last time, I found myself :upsidedow.... We still had an amazing vacation as we spent it with some of our favorite DIS friends that we have formed over the years and would not trade it but we were food challenged!

THANKS LISA.... True very true!!! They went forward with egg free ones and backwards in 2011 with all egg base ones again.... They even would not do an egg-free cake for me a couple of weeks ago... At least I had 3 good years!

Are you telling me, we were on at the same time (different ships though) and they got you dairy free, egg free pasta? I know The Dream took Fitz away from us, but you are 100% sure they brought you different pasta? If so.... I am for sure writing ANOTHER letter to DCL.... What did your little one eat while on the ship? No Eggs, No Dairy, No Gluten, No Nuts... What in the world did you eat????? I would pay to see a menu of your day? The only thing I can think of is Rice Krispy cereal with soy milk, meat and ....... Oh, I guess my DD was able to eat a taco pool side; so a taco without any cheese but what else? French fries, a PLAIN baked potato and what else :confused3. Room Service would be out.... What did she eat on CC? Chips and meat without a bun or special bun? Just curious?:confused3

Hi Sharon -

I'd love to hear how things went with your cruise??

Just a note for the person who said Palo was not an option. I went to Remy in Feb., and my friends mom went to Palo. For both of us it was the best meal.

Also there is quinoa, tofu. I did not ask for Pasta, I know the parks have the vegan rice pastas.

well I just came back from a second cruise on the dream and it was much worse than my first. I had more issues in the dining room during dinner. I would still recommend remy but be wary.
