Episode X
Confronts the Power of the Dark Side

It is a dark time for Disney/STAR WARS fans. Star Tours remains an empty shell after the evil lord Darth Vader and his bounty hunter Boba Fett closed the attraction with a thermal detonator.

However, a creative group of young IMAGINEERS have re-established a new, improved STAR TOURS base in the mysterious tropical SWAMP world of Florida.

To commemorate this event, and pay tribute to legendary VICTORY celebrations of the Ewoks, Naboo, and Gungans, a party of EPIC proportions was planned with invitations extending deep into the far reaches of space….

About the Power of 10:
We are a group of Disney fans who want to help share our passion for Disney with those who need it most: children with life threatening illnesses and their families. When these children ask to visit Walt Disney World through organizations like the Make-A-Wish foundation, many times those organizations reach out to Give Kids The World to make that wish a reality. Our goal is simple. We’re looking to raise $1M to help this worthy organization in their mission to turn no child away. For more information about the Power of 10, please see:

Original Post from 3/14
Hi Everyone: I'm planning on coming down to Orlando to cover the re-opening of Star Tours on May 20th and the first Star Wars Weekend through Sunday, May 22nd. I've been considering organizing a "Power of 10" event/meet, but need to know who might be interested in attending.

There are no plans as of yet, but I was considering doing something early Sunday morning, May 22nd in Hollywood Studios. I thought that way people will have taken a ride on the new Star Tours and gotten the "have-to-do" Star Wars Weekend activities out of the way, and wouldn't mind meeting up for a little while.

April 10, Edited to add: Hi everyone, I've been working with Disney to see if we could pull this off. Here is what we are looking at, a breakfast at the Backlot Express (right next to Star Tours) on Sunday, May 22 from 7-9:30a. We would be getting into the park prior to opening, and be among the first in line for Star Tours when the park opens at 9am (you need theme park admission if you want to stay in the park after opening).

Based on what Disney would charge us for the food and venue, in order to raise funds for GKTW, the cost would be $50/adult ages 10+, children ages 3-9 would be $25, and children 2 & under are free. Based on this information, would you still be interested in attending?

I'm really looking for feedback before we commit to signing the contract with Disney.

April 11, Edited to add: I heard back from Disney and updated the children's prices.

April 13, Edited to add: breakfast menu items

Breakfast Buffet would include:
Orange and Apple Juice
Assorted Muffins, Bagels, and Danish
Plain Scrambled Eggs
Breakfast Quesadillas with eggs, sausage, onions, peppers and cheddar cheese
Smoked Bacon
Turkey Sausage
Tater tots
Sliced fruit and Berry yogurt
Coffee, Decaf Coffee, and Tea

April 15, Edited to add: The contract has been signed. We're on!

April 25, Edited to add: Disney has extended the park hours for Disney's Hollywood Studios to 8am to midnight that first Star Wars Weekend. We're currently working with them to see how this will impact our party.

May 12, Edited to add: List of items for the silent auction (so far).

May 17, Edited to add: Final instructions in post #110

Rats - our timing is *just* off! We leave the morning of the 20th to drive home after what I'm sure will be another wonderful family vacation at WDW. This sounds like a great idea, and we'd be in for sure if we were still going to be there!

Any early thoughts on doing something over the weekend of the December event? DH (DEA on the boards) and I are planning to be there, with a no-kids reservation already in place on property...

XO
Liz

We'll be in DHS on the 20th until 1:00 pm with a gazillion other people and fly home on the 21st.

Count us in! There would be 3 of us. We are from Pennsylvania and will be staying at POFQ.

Beth

Count me in, Dave! It will probably be just me. I've put it on the calendar and set my schedule aside for this.

Would love to- but I'll only be there until the 18th. Coming for Destination D, and hoping for a soft opening of Star Tours.

Can we participate (donate) from afar?

Hmmmm, good question Linda. I'll have to think.

Hey, is this like the Haunted Mansion? Is there room for one more? If so, I'd like in!

It would be just me, traveling solo, and staying at a TBD location. Apparently, I like to stay off the radar. :lmao: No, I'll let you know as soon as I have a clue.

I would gladly pay the $50 knowing some of it would help out. Just keep me posted on the details.

Thanks for keeping me in the loop Dave. When you've finalized the details let me know in order to help promote it. Unfortunately my wife and I can't be there since we're leaving that morning but I hope to meet up with you and the rest of the Disney/Star Wars fans!

I heard back from Disney. Children 2 & under are free, and ages 3-9 would be $25.

Dave....This sounds like great fun and a terrific opportunity. Wish I could be there to see everyone and take advantage of the Star Tours ride. It should be amazing!

Kudos to you for putting it together!

That's terrific news, Dave! Of course I'm in! It's for GKTW, and the opportunity to ride Star Tours is a bonus! :cool1:

I am trying to twist my dh arm. Looks like it will only be me. Happy to give to an awesome cause.
