My family and I just recently got back from DW and we have a new addiction....VINYLMATION.....My wife and I thought it was stupid at first and then our little girl loved opening the boxes you couldn't see what was inside....It became fun for all of us...Share your stories....favorite series, where is the best place to buy vinylmation, best price, etc.......

OMG!!!
My kids and DH love them, we have about 40-50. Just started collecting when we were there in July. My husband had to build the kids a shelf for all of them. Vinymation who would have thought they would be so popular.... I have to admit I like them too :cheer2:

Hehe, another one hooked! (I'm a collector at heart, so I've been gathering a couple, as well.) You should probably check out the collector's board. It's near the bottom on the main disboards page.

I used to think vinylmation was dumb too...for years... but then I was reminiscing about a trip several years back when there were these large Mickey statues out front of the Magic Kingdom that were all the same size and shape, but were decorated/painted differently. They were designed by different famous people and organizations. They may have been auctioned off...not really sure. I don't remember exactly what they were for. Anyways, I really liked those and it occurred to me that those were just giant vinyls- at least in concept.

Happy Collecting!

DH and I are definitely addicted! We have a complete Park 3 series and a complete Villains set with about 20 additional randoms! :goodvibes I can't wait for Park 6 to be released... I hope I can find some next week!

Same here, I thought they were dumb. In Dec when my boyfriend and I went with his family, his niece bought one. It was neat but I wasn't impressed. I finally decided to get one, a Muppet. It was like Christmas! It was Miss Piggy and I didn'y really care for it, so I traded. Instant addiction! After a week at WDW and a week at Vero Beach where they had the Have a Laugh Series that I like,(o and I got engaged at the beach!:yay:), I came home with 7. Now I'm up to 20 with help from family bringing some back. My favorite is the Love Bug that I bought the day I got engaged.

To any of the hardcore collectors. Are these really random? On our recent trip we saw 2 people looking at the stamped numbers on the bottom of the boxes. Are there ways to tell what's inside by looking at these numbers?

Totally hooked here!

first saw them it was either our spring '09 or August '09 trip and thought how neat but said NOOOO way, am NOT going to even think of starting to collect these, I know myself with collecting, and once I start.... well, it adds up!
Finally broke down Nov of '09 trip. Have been hooked ever since. Of course, kicking myself a bit for turning down all the series 1's I saw and many 9 inch ones that I turned down... even when started we swore, nope, only the 3" we'd collect. Of course, the 9" ones I turned down initially, we now want, and can't afford them on ebay.
Me and kids have a good time trading them. Have to go through our collection and actually figure out which ones to narrow down - we are running out of room and have no room for any new ones, so that's not good!

My neighbor tried for two WDW trips to get me interested in those critters. Finally the last summer trip with her family and our family, we went on the hunt for THe America Sings Eagle. Well, we got the Pirate Auctioneer...my DH is a big pirate fan. And so it began.

No one on that trip found the eagle. Our next trip, a few months later, we start looking at the trade boxes. We find the America Sings Eagle and buy a vinylmation to trade. The CM says to me, "What if you get one you want?" as I pick a box out of Park #4. I say, "Only if I get the POTC dog, or Nemo or Epcot or DCL". :rotfl2: Thinking, yeah right, last time we ended up with ones I hadn't even heard of. First box . . . Epcot Center #2, second box...Nemo submarine, third box...DCL.:cool1::cool1::cool1: I mean, what are the chances. We decide to buy one more to trade for the eagle. Did we leave that trip without looking for the POTC dog...of course not! One last look before leaving Epcot and there he was sitting waiting in the trade box. My DH was so happy.

I don't think so. My neighbor and I kept our boxes and marked what was in each of them. As far as we could tell, the numbers just mark the series, nothing else that we could tell set each apart.

I agree! We have the entire Villains series and I kept every single box to see if there was any difference at all b/c I had heard there was. Well, every single box was EXACTLY the same! I looked at every square millimeter of that box and nothin'. I think possibly in the past there may have been some sort of indicator but disney may have realized people were looking specifically for chasers and no longer do it. :confused3

I love vinylmation! We have around 20 and I love them dearly. My husband got into them before me, which is truly shocking. He loves all the black/darker colored ones. Meanwhile I'm in love with Miss Piggy and the cutester line. The cutester's are my favorites! Anything girly tickles my fancy though. ;) I can't wait to go back to DW in May and get a few more. They're so much fun!:cheer2:

I am so addicted!! Even my fiance and son have become addicted! We have about 50 so far, and are the park series. I love every single one of them. And getting them in the parks are so much fun! I think we've created a little "tradition" for our family :)

How much do these cost?

A few years ago WDW had miniatures...characters,park icons, park rides...so cute!.....3 came to a bag for $5...you didn't know what you got until you openedthe bag.You could trade these too...we just loved them!...they had Star Wars ones too.I haven't been to WDW in a few years so I don't know if they still have miniatures...I think Vinylmation has probably taken their place.

We didn't start collecting them until our August 2010 trip. My boys loved buying and trading them. I secretly bought two more as DH and the boys were checking us out at the Poly. I meant to put them in the boys Christmas stockings, but forgot.

We're surprising them with our upcoming August 2011 trip, and I'm going to make each boy their own Disney gift package to open the day we leave. Each one will get a new Vinylmation. I can't wait to see which ones they get!

My girlfriend and I have a pretty large collection. We have every piece of Parks 1-5, the Nightmare Before Christmas collection, Toy Story, Star Wars, and the 40th Anniversary ones. We also have a bunch from other series, but not the complete collections (yet) :scared1:

I am seriously in love with Vinylmation... I have a good collection going after just two short years of buying them... and I already have three chasers!!!! so much fun!!!:lovestruc

Love the keychains and finally got my fav Figment....also the Disney Afternoon.
We fell in love when we bought the first set @ the Villains store @ HS

That is awesome....I tell you I have it bad....I drove to a local Disney store where I'm from and bought my little girl, 2 boxes of Toy Story, 1 cutester, I animation, and 1 have a laugh....It is very addictive...

That is an awesome story and an awesome collection....I was reading an earlier post and some one said there was a possible way to tell what was inside the boxes by looking at a stamp on the bottom of the box?

We bought our first vinylmation on our trip in June 2010 and fell in love with them. We don't have too many, but truly enjoy what we do have. My nephew just returned from WDW this past Saturday and brought us a 40th Anniversary one. A co-worker of my husband's just left to go to WDW on Friday and is going to bring us back a couple. I can't wait!
