Can someone explain the YES program in baby steps, we are family of 3 going in May with a 6 year old, how does it work? Do you get the tickets before you attend a workshop? How long is the workshop? Is 6 year old too young?

Six would be too young to participate. The programs are for children ages 8-18. Tickets are sent to the group leader (or the individual if they are doing a program that offers individual enrollment) before the group departs for their trip to Disney World.

You can read the details about YES programs and individual enrollment here:
http://www.disneyyouth.com/individual-enrollment/

Actually, there are 2 classes in which your 6 year old could participate: How Things Move and Synergy in Science. Our oldest dd will be 5 when we go, and we hope to check out How Things Move. Sounds fun!

Our DS (7) did Synergy in Science this past February. It was an interesting class. But individual enrollment classes are only available for the posted dates. Currently they start back in June unless you are going to DL--they have more availability. Check out the link on the PP's post.

To do Individual enrollment, you register for the class, complete the form and order the tickets for everyone in your party and pay for them at that time. You can either choose to pick them up at will-call or have them sent to you for an extra $10 (one fee--not per ticket). Also there is a $4.50 fee (one time--not per ticket).

Any day now (I haven't checked this week) they are supposed to be releasing the fall dates for individual enrollment.

Classes start for as young as 5 (How things move). Besides Synergy in Science, they also offer Wild by Nature for 6-11 and I think there is a class at the Living seas that is geared toward the younger group too.

Sorry to hijack...does everyone in your party get the yes tickets or just the participating child?

For Individual Enrollment classes you can get YES park tickets for the participating kid(s) and members of their immediate family.

Perfect. My DD8 would absolutely LOVE this!! I hope there is something April 2012 when we go. I just wasn't sure if we could get the discounted tix for her brother (age 3) as well. Myself and my DH will have AP's so won't need tix. Thanks so much for all your help. I appreciate it.

I am so excited that I was able to find out about this program. I looked at pricing for a 5 day park hopper and by buying them through the YES program we can save $400 - THAT'S AMAZING! Can't wait to take advantage of this next summer!

Don't hold your breath for April. They don't usually offer these programs during spring break time frames. In the last, it is January/February and summer. Looks like they are having some in Sept/Oct this year as well.

I might have misread some threads but can't you organize a group if you have so many people? Or, is it just always a no go during spring break?

I am interested in this as well, if there happen to be courses offered within our (very vague) timeframe for the fall. I gather Sept/Oct schedules were just posted. Are there ever additional dates added after the fact? Are there ever classes in the first aprt of November? Right now there's one week that would be perfect for us, except it just happens to overlap standardized testing month here at home. :(

Also, am I understanding correctly that even if we can't find a week when both classes that my kids are interested in are offered, we'd still be eligible to get the YES tickets for the whole family so long as one of them is taking a class? If so we may end up doing that; letting DD9 take the class she's interested in and finding something else a little special to do with DS13.

From what my understanding is:

If you are going during dates that do not have Open Enrollment, you can set up a class yourself. You need at least 10 students to sign up. There are many classes to choose from and you can find additional students by posting on the YES thread that was given earlier in this thread. If you arrange a class, you may buy discounted tickets for your student/s as well as additional tickets for the remaining part of your group that is not participating equal to the number of students that you have. If that makes sense to you. So if you only have child participating, you are eligible to buy one more discounted ticket for mom/dad/whomever.

If you are going during Open Enrollment, you may buy discounted tickets for your whole group, you are not limited to the one for one thing.

Makes perfect sense! Thanks. We would only need one more ticket (for my son) as my DH and myself will have AP's. My DD8 would love a class. I will have to look more into organizing a group. Many thanks!

You might want to check on that. On the larger thread, people have been saying that Disney has denied groups that have been formed out of random people. They are asking for proof that you are a real group, such as a scout troop, church youth group, school group, homeschool group, etc. Open enrollment is the only time this isn't required.
