Taxes being pushed off...???

We filed our taxes a few weeks back and did the e-file thing. Our tax guy said they should be in our bank account by March 4th. I checked the IRS website on the 4th and it says: Your expected refund date has been changed due to processing delays. You should receive your refund by March 15, 2011.
Please wait until that date to contact us again because we cannot take any action until then. Thank you for your patience.
Is this happening to anyone else? I'm worried because we're using this to pay for our Disney vacation which has to be paid by the end of the month. My husband said he heard something about problems with the taxes this year and that if you haven't filed yet, you may not even get them back this year! Has anyone else heard that or know what's going on?

We didn't have any problem but then we had a very simple return. No deductions or credits other than the kids and the making work pay thing.

My niece & her DH on the other hand received notice that theirs is being delayed possibly up to 8 weeks. I don't know all the specifics of their return but I know they had several more things on theirs.

I also heard early on that some returns were going to be delayed but I didn't pay much attention to the specifics.

Good luck!

We pay quarterly and I want to know if we can 'put off' our quarterly deposit a few weeks???? Seems only fair!

It's mostly due to the late change in the tax regulations in mid December by Congress, extending certain credits and deductions that were due to expire for 2010 and making some retroactive to 1/01/10.

All the software at IRS needed to be reconfigured, and people who had itemized deductions or anything other than the simplest return can be affected. Updating software = computer processing downtime, so even normal functions are lagging a bit.

Well im not sure why the delay is there but we were supposed to have our Federal Refund on 2/25, then it went to 3/4 and now it says 3/15. Who knows :confused3 We did get our state back in like 3 days after we filed however.

Just do what we do and owe the fed gov every year.:lmao:

Our oldest DS got his refund in less than two weeks, and he filed mid Feb.

It's not about the delayed updates because those were in by mid-Feb. I think it's all the people who rushed to file out of fear of the Fed Gov closing down temporarily and the IRS only processing payments during the shutdown, not refunds. The IRS is overwhelmed would be my guess.

We did ours ourself and had to wait until February 14th to actually e-file. Originally it said March 1st, then it went to a delay in processing w/ no expected date. I called and was given a February 22nd date & it WAS direct deposited on Tuesday the 22nd! It still says that there is a delay in processing... LOL.... :confused3

The date of March 15 is the gov't estimate of when a Friday deposit would go in. They always say more time just to cover any lag time of banks, holidays, etc.

My guess it will be sometime after midnight Thursday/Friday March 11.

I think there were some processing delays with certain forms this year?

Our taxes were slated for 3/4. And then they were listed as delayed till the 15th. But they were in our account on the 7th. The reason cited on the IRS website "Where's My Refund" https://sa.www4.irs.gov/irfof/IRServlet?app=IRFOF&selectLanguage were that there were errors in a form.

This is the detail of the change.

Details:
We changed the amount of self-employment tax on Line 56 of your Form 1040 because there was an error on Schedule SE, Self-Employment Tax. The error was in the:

Computation of the self-employment tax on Schedule SE and/or
Transfer of that amount to Line 56 of your Form 1040.

We actually got a larger refund than we were expecting because of this correction.

I filed ours the end of February. Refund was due on March 8, we got ours on the 4th. We itemized, and had self employment taxes.

Our state refund however...

We have an incredibly complicated return with at least 14 additional schedules attached to our 1040 documents--the copy I have is at least 35 pages. This was the first year we e-filed, our tax preparer no longer has a choice. If a tax preparer does more than 100 returns in a year, the IRS basically made them e-file. We always preferred to let the IRS do the work.

That said, for once we were owed a small (a few hundred dollars) refund of overpayment. The IRS refund schedule stated the funds would be in our account on March 4, and they were.

We had the same issue with our taxes. Our refund was direct deposited 2 weeks after the scheduled date. I believe the federal refunds are deposited on Fridays, so I would guess yours will be coming this week. Good luck!

Like you we had to wait to Feb. 14 to file because of form 5405.
Our return date was March 1, it came and went. Next on WMR was the statment that there was a delay and code 1301. I called this morning and the iRS agent that I spoke with reassured me that the problem was nothing I did when I e-file my taxes and that the department that has them would be releasing them tomorrow and I should have them by next Friday. (Not holding my breath here)
So I'm still waiting:confused3
