Over the last 2 years we have rec'd a few bids for wood casement windows ,siding and gutters... 3 bids with Andersen or Pella windows in the range of $32K-$35K.. just had Pella our for windows only at about $21K..

Over the weekend we had a guy come out, gave us a bid of $18808 for siding (same Certainteed as other bids), wood casement windows from a company called Hayfield and gutters...

Should we be jumping at this or nervous, thinking "you get what you pay for"???

Basically broken down as:

Siding, soffits, facia and gutters- $10500, 1800 SQF ranch, 20-21 squares..
Windows- $8300.. we have 8 standard size windows, 3 big 6'x6' windows and a picture window..

I would check the company out with the BBB before hiring them. I would also ask to see examples of their work.

The window company has an A+ rating with the BBB, going later this week to see a house that the contractor just did with the same windows..

Sixty years of service and a lifetime warranty, sounds like a safe company for the windows. I would get the names of a few people and go see the workmanship on other people homes.

http://www.hayfieldwindows.com/history.html

"Established in 1951, Hayfield Window and Door Company of Hayfield Minnesota began as a small manufacturer with a product line consisting of aluminum combination windows and storm doors. Hayfield employed 20 people then. The plant and offices were in a 10,000 square foot building.

In 1977, the business was purchased by father and son, Maynard and Dick Rouhoff. Since that time, the business has grown to employ 150 people. They are now located in a new plant (still in Hayfield, Minnesota) that is over 140,000 square feet. This building also contains Hayfield's corporate offices.

All Hayfield products are backed by a twenty-year glass warranty and a transferable limited lifetime warranty on the vinyl and hardware.
Hayfield warrants that the rigid vinyl extrusions used in their products are first-grade, exterior-quality materials. The polyvinyl chloride (PVC) extrusions have been tested and proven using the highest grades of ultraviolet treatment available on the market today. Hayfield warrants that the vinyl extrusions used in these products will not pit, chip, corrode, or blister, and are not affected by salt air.
The company also warrants that the real wood on the interior surfaces will not delaminate from the vinyl windows and doors."
