Fort Wilderness and Dining plan?

Has anyone stayed in the cabins and used the DDP? It seems like there is only 1 place to use QS credits (Meadow Pool) and the choices are limited. I was hoping someone has come back with some good ideas after staying there. I know I can take a boat or a bus somewhere for breakfast or lunch, but I was hoping that maybe Trails End would accept QS for carryout food in light of their new lunch menu.

the Meadow's snack bar is the only place listed there for QS and it is a very limited menu as well. Trail's end lunch menu is a VERY sit-down type of thing. I don't really see it translating to QS credits even as take-out. I highly recommend trying it though. It was delicious!

At the little outpost store there you can use snack credits to get things like entemenns single serve pastries and juice and milk and rice crispy treats.
the store will also have things like hot dogs and burgers and deli stuff that you can cook in your cabin. It will not be included on your dining plan, but it will be easy to get some things if you want to stay in your cabin and eat quick meals....since you will have a full kitchen.

Keep in mind that you can take the boat to the Wilderness Lodge, Contemporary, and Poly. All have WONDERFUL and unique quick service restaurants. Captain Cook's at the Poly is even open 24 hours.

Roaring Forks at Wilderness Lodge has burgers, pasta, flatbreads, fresh made to order sandwiches with homemade potato chips, salads, chili and soup, bakery items (MAGIC COOKIE BAR), and very delicious soft serve ice cream.

The contemporary has the contempo cafe with flatbreads (even one with steak on it), salads, sandwiches, and delicious pastries.

Captain Cookes is a favorite of ours at the Poly...pulled pork sandwiches, stir fry noodles, burgers, flatbreads, self-serve dole whips (i can get about a pint of dole whip on that little cup...i have experience).

I really recommend trying these locations for a QS meal. All are very good. You can easily get to the Mk then on either the monorail (from Poly and Contemp) or boat (from WL) or go back to your resort on the boat directly from any of them.

I do somehow think that as the dining plan becomes more prevalent, they should give Ft. Wilderness more options. I was on the fence as to whether to bother with the plan at all while staying there.
I was spoiled staying at Port Orleans Riverside with tons of QS options for breakfast and lunch right there on site. We used many snack credits for breakfasts of beignets, after a short hike to the French Quarter.

That link references "trails to go" which I have never heard of. Wonder if any QS availablity there.

trails to go is pizza and fried chicken meals that you can grab at the entrance of trail's end restaurant if you call ahead (and all disney pizza is pretty icky).

I do not know for certain if they are included on the QS meals but i really do not think so. Disney pizza take out at other resorts is TS credits and it is also not listed on the allears QS list of what places are included.

(i think the ft. wilderness area is beautiful and the cabins would be fun, but you might not be in them all that much, have you thought about maybe getting a family suite at Pop as an option so things are more convenient?)

I agree 100% on the pizza, but if the fried chicken were an option i'd be right there. That is good stuff!

We were actually thinking of hanging around Ft. Wilderness during the day, perhaps renting a golf cart (offsite company) and exploring, tetherball, swimming, bicycling also Hoop dee Doo and campfires etc.

We have stayed at the Cabins with DDP many times. What we loved most was the full kitchen. When we would go back in the evening, we would load up on pastries, roaring forks sandwiches, and aloha pork sandwiches, which we would eat in the cabins the next day if we didn't want to be out and about. The cabins give you much more capability of storing leftovers, so we always think we get more value out of the plan.

Actually, that begs a new question. Is there a good place (or any place) on property to get a pre-packaged CS entree to go? I'm thinking of maybe a cold roast beef or turkey sandwich you just grab from a refrigerator to bring back to the cabin. If not, maybe a place where they'll pack you up a nice "to go" package consisting of something that doesnt need to be heated (ok I'm lazy), that you can easily carry back to the cabin.

Any thoughts?

Best take out roast beef and turkey sandwiches are at roaring forks counter service on the lower level of Wilderness lodge resort (a boat ride from ft. wilderness). They also come with a big pile of homemade potato chips or cucumber salad.

Earl of sandwich is always good but not as convenient (since it is way over at downtown disney...pretty far away from the campground area) and often has super long lines.

Does anyone know if there is anything new to report from Fort Wilderness? Just thought maybe eventually there would be a way to get a QS breakfast right at the resort. Trip is in a couple of weeks. We really intended to spend most of our days at FW and venture elsewhere at night.

I'm pretty sure I walked to Wilderness Lodge from FW before. Is it a far walk? I dont recall.

No breakfast, but I can confirm that the take-out chicken and pizza at Trail's end DOES qualify as a QS meal. We asked--the pizza and larger "family" size chicken meals are 2QS credits, however.

When we were there (December), the carry out was not available for lunch, though.

That's great news! Hopefully they will allow take-out for lunch when I go in 9 days. Does it come with sides, drink & dessert? I have only ever eaten the buffet there. Their table service ala carte lunch doesnt seem worth a TS credit.

Yes, the CM we asked said that the meals came with a drink and dessert. Have a great trip!! Looks like we'll be there at the same time!

Thanks for that info! Maybe on a night we are eating a late dinner, 4:30 lunch will work out, or maybe they'll hook us up closer to lunch time.

Are you going to be in a cabin too? We are hoping for the 2200 loop to be close to the action.

We were not offered the dining plan while staying at the campground. I sure would have liked to get the option of getting the dinning plan while staying at ft. Wilderness.

you can add the DDP to a stay at FW! We did!

I'm not sure they are overly concerned about dining options at FW.... after all you're either camping (most campers are accustomed to feeding themselves at their campsite) or in a cabin with an actual full kitchen with a stove, microwave, and full size fridge (and a grill by the deck).
We stayed in a FW cabin last spring and never ate there (other than in our cabin) once. GardenGrocer will deliver you anything you could want if you don't have a car to get to the store. We were on the DDP, but since we booked late- Mickey's BBQ was sold out for our stay. Neither the HoopDeDoo or the Trails End seemed worth a TS when there were so many other places actually in the parks we could eat. If you are going to hang around the campground most of your vacay- save your $$ and stock the fridge rather than getting the DDP.

We did the DxDP at the cabins and loved it!!!!! I must have had 5 different deserts in the fridge at any given time.

Its a blast taking the boats to all many of the resorts we wanted to eat at.The cabins are crazy relaxing too. Its like your in your own little world.
