DREAMS really do come true! 1/30 4-day Cruise Report with Tons of Photos! Video done!

Thanks to you and Cass for the vote of confidence! :goodvibes Tell me - do either of you get motion sickness very badly during other forms of transportation? Dh gets sick on EVERY form of transportation unless he is driving himself (i.e. speed boat or car). He's sick on every flight we've ever had, every boat/ferry, subway, bus, etc... He even gets sick in a rocking chair or during 3D movies and of course roller coasters or simulator rides. The Cat & the Hat ride at Universal just about did him in for the whole week!! :scared1: We're just terrified to spend big $$ on a cruise, when we've never found a way to deal with his motion sickness and we've tried all the options we've heard of to date. I did do a cruise when I was a teenager with my family which was fantastic. Until we figure something out, I really appreciate reading all of your reports. With all of the pics Cass has posted, you'd almost think you're right there. :cloud9:

My mother-in-law sounds exactly like your hubby! She cruised with us on the Magic in 2007 and except for one night, she was fine. As we approached Cozumel, the seas were super choppy and that was the night she just lied down in her room but otherwise, she was good.

If you ever consider giving it a go, I would choose a 3-day cruise on the Dream because I swear, you could hardly feel it! That way, if he doesn't feel good, 2 of those days you will be docked and he can be on land. :thumbsup2

I am warning you though...once you start cruising with Disney, you will HAVE to go back :rolleyes1 ;)

Thanks :goodvibes It was actually the menus that they gave us while we were seated at the table that I taped :thumbsup2

I was always the last one ready to order because I was so damn busy taking photos and videos of the menus :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

Ohhhh, you're gooooood! :)
I thought it was the ones posted outside. :rotfl:

Did adults go on the AquaDuck - did you? It looks like FUN!

We are GTY for our May 12 cruise - front forward cabins, cat 9A. Can't wait for our room to be assigned.

i last about 10 minutes in the passanger seat then i'm begging dh to pull over.

in the 7 years we've been married plus 2 years before that i think dh has driven a TOTAL of an hour. - and that's pushing the guesstmate.

we drive down from Toronto to Disney every other year, leave at 6am stop between 6 and 8 and it's all me all the time.

with the exception if this last trip were we were detured off the main highway and ended up driving through small towns and through the mountians with no lights in the middle of the night. we were due into our hotel around 9pm but didn't arrive until almost 1.30. by 1am i was just exhausted and even though i knew i would feel sick i asked dh to take over.

i was soooooo tired i fell asleep.

but that's a very rare case. so i do know exactly what your dh is going through. i firmly believe fresh air and lots of it will help any motion sickness.

The video is amazing. Even my DD sat and watched it with me and we had to rewind a few parts for her.
Now one question, I noticed a flash on the Aquadcuk, is that a sensor or do they take pictures of guests riding it?

My son will be in the Vibe next Jan on the Dream. He will be 14 then ,I'm sure he will feel really special if they have their own card.

Maybe my niece thought there were too many 14 year olds she is almost 18. and called them tweens. :confused3

Do they card the Edge them too? Or is the Edge like the Quest was and they have family time in there too as well as the Out and About .

Did adults go on the AquaDuck - did you?

Only 12 times :rolleyes1 ;) :lmao:

Everybody was going on the Aquaduck :cool1:

Pretty sure it's just a sensor but not 100% :thumbsup2

Doubt it because the Edge's door is always open...heck they let me in there  but the Vibe has a closed door all the time so the only way in is to swipe your card key :goodvibes

This isn't the first time I've heard that the tweens from The Edge have made their way into Vibe. From a teen's trip report ...

...then one of the teens decided we should invade the Edge since some of the Edge members invaded the Vibe. The CM's thought this was fine apparently, and - while I won't go into too much detail - the result wasn't very good.

Loved the video Cass!:thumbsup2 Great job!

I've been watching it in segments before work each day, it took me 3 days to finish:rotfl:

I loved the video. Great job!!!!!! The music was also perfect. I'll have to purchase the CD now.

Thanks and we really enjoyed your hard work.

Thank you for the wonderful trip report and video.:worship:

You have probably already answered these questions and I just missed it- so please forgive me asking again.:upsidedow

Was there hot chocolate at the beverage station?

Would you be able to see the fireworks from a port side verandah?

Were there hammocks at the second family beach?

Thank you!

I just wanted to offer a suggestion for your hubby - I used to get extremely sick from everything that you mentioned above, so needless to say, I was scared to death to take a cruise. :sad2: I tried the dramamine, the wrist bands, and the behind the ear patches (which made things WAY worse!!) and though the dramamine helped a little, nothing wokred completely. I now use my dramamine along with this AMAZING aromatherapy oil. I know I sound like an advertisement, but I know what it's like to suffer so I like to let other know about it. It's called Motion Eaze (you can get it at most WalMart stores or you can order it from motioneaze.com). The drops go behind your ears and the scents hel to calm the nausea, vertigo and nerves. I bought several bottles and keep at least one with me at all times. I am happy to say I will be taking my TENTH cruise in April :goodvibes Something else that helps me too if the ship gets really rocky - I sit out on the deck in one of the rockin chairs -the fresh air and the fact that YOU are controling the rocking motion makes a huge difference! Good luck!!

Getting to the port and Embarkation Day Part 1

We boarded DCL buses from the All-Star Music Resort and we left at around 8:20. We had 4 buses for our whole group and we got the first one! It was my first time taking a DCL to the port and it was exciting! Loved the video they played as well as the trivia (and Disney shorts), even though they had a lot of spelling errors lol

I was looking forward to seeing if we would have to make a detour because of that big truck explosion that happened just before I left for home but it was painless. They just closed off the bridge and you could go around. When we passed by the bridge part of the overpass was completely gone and when we drove back to the airport on Thursday, they had already built a good portion of it. Here is a pic I took on the way back..

A few minutes later, I caught my first glimpse of the Dream

20110130_1553.jpg

We got to the terminal at about 9:15am but the ship hadn't cleared so we drove over near the temporary parking lot and waited there for at least 30 mins. We all watched in awe from the bus...people were mostly commenting about the Aquaduck

Hey Baltimore!
f026a50e.jpg

I was able to chat on Skype to my friends Nancy, Mike & Robin (too early to call anyone back home!) and even did a webcam chat with Nanc!

More waiting...

Finally, our bus headed over to where the buses drop us off but we weren't allowed off :headache: Talk about a tease!!!!

IMG_0573.jpg

We were told that customs still hadn't cleared everyone off and we saw passengers from the MV coming out after 10:15 am!!

More waiting and then we saw an ambulance and a woman being carried away in a stretcher. We were told that a DCL bus driver was injured and had to go to the hospital and that our driver was called over to take her place on the bus back to the airport. That was the only reason they let our bus over there. After some more waiting, finally we were let into the terminal!

One of the agents we had met (Baltimore!) had just spoken to his boss who was just getting off the MV and had told him that they had some major problems on the cruise in regards to people stealing things. We later found out that a good portion of those nice red pillows were taken as well as the hard cover folder-books, towels, butter knives from Animator's Palate and some glasses from a pub/bar/lounge.

After a quick zip through security, Baltimore and I went up the stairs into the terminal. Michelle had already made her way to the concierge desk to check-in as she is a platinum CC member. B and I were stopped and had to fill out a health questionnaire. The last time I was in the terminal, the store was still there so I had a hard time finding the Concierge desk but I finally made it to check-in. We got a #1 boarding card but because there are so many more concierge rooms on the Dream compared to the Magic, we weren't allowed into the little waiting area. No biggie for me, I would rather walk around the terminal anyway!

They had me listed as a first-time cruiser so I asked the lady if she could put my CC card # on my reservation but said she couldn't do anything about that. For a concierge CM, she wasn't very helpful at all. :snooty: She told me that I had to go to Guest Services on the ship and get it done there. Well, I did that and the CM there told me that SHE couldn't do anything about it and it had to be done on land so I'm just hoping it will be all figured out.

They take your picture while you check-in now, which is a HUGE improvement from the last time I cruised when you had to go to a separate line and get it done. That was just chaos and a 30-minute wait, so it's good to see they no longer make you do that!

I walked around the terminal for a while getting some pics and video...

It wasn't long (about 11:45pm) that we began boarding. There were tons of people just crowding around the entrance which made it a little difficult to get to the front but we made it and we were so excited so finally get on the ship!!

They scan your card just after getting through the Mickey Ears...you can see my mug shot here ;)

Just before the photo area...

20110130_1593.jpg

We bypassed the photo and just walked on the ship. They announced "The Disney Dream would like to welcome Michelle and Cass!!!" or something similar to that and we were both in awe looking around!

The Atrium is even more beautiful in person but we didn't have time to linger, we needed to get to the kids clubs!

We were originally supposed to have a private tour before general boarding but because we had 170 agents, they cancelled it and gave us a brochure with a list of places we can tour on our own. What a joke!

So, before all the kiddos invaded, I wanted to get some photos/videos of the kids club so that is where we first went. It wasn't open just yet so we had to wait about 10 minutes.

WoW wOw WoW!!!!! The club/lab was awesome!! More on that later ;) We also toured It's a Small Word Nursery which was also awesome! More later!

Then we ran to the Vibe...well we tried....but couldn't find it :rolleyes1 :lmao:

A very nice CM pointed us in the right direction and after deciphering clues, discovering secret passwords and promising my second-born, I was let into the teen club  :rotfl2: Just kidding! But it sure was hidden well! I bet most adults would just give up after looking for it for 10 minutes LOL!

The Vibe was awesome!! It made me want to be a teenager again...but just for 4 days ;)

After that, I think we went our separate ways because Michelle wanted to ride the Aquaduck while it wasn't too busy.

I went to our room as it was now about 1:45pm. We had a cat 5A Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah on deck 9. It was cabin 9534 and it was awesome.

....I know...I used the word awesome yet again....I can't help it, it really was awesome....so get used to the word...I will be using it again....often.

Awesome :goodvibes

More later on staterooms....it will be my next chapter actually!

After checking out the room, I took a tour of the Spa....a place I wish I could have spent more time in!! By then it was 2:30pm and I was starving so I headed to Cabanas to see what they had for the embarkation lunch. I took photos but I didn't really want that kind of food. I really just wanted a hot dog so I headed down to Flo's Cafe. I ran into Michelle on the way there and she joined me for some lunch.

20110130_2071.jpg

The only table available was in the sun and it was too hot for me so I ate fast and then left! With my Lupus, I can't be in the sun for long :scared:

The hot dog was blah (yucky whole wheat bun) but the fries were....can you guess????

YUP!! They were amazing!!!!!!!!!! They were really good and I made sure to have them every day LOL!

OK, this is getting really long so I will have to continue this in the next post....

Why do they have to ruin a hot dog with a whole wheat bun that falls apart. I was hoping they didn;t follow WDW on that one but I guess they did.

Hey guys :wave2:

Just wanted to let you all know that I am done with making all the little clips and have posted them to my YouTube page :thumbsup2

YouTube Videos

These are raw videos so you will hear all the sounds (except for the CC video) and you will see some bad filming at times

There is some new footage but I have also included the stuff I used in my edited video because sometimes I only used part of that raw footage.

So, I just have to write up my final thoughts/comments and I will be ALL done with this report

Enjoy the clips :goodvibes

This isn't the first time I've heard that the tweens from The Edge have made their way into Vibe. From a teen's trip report ...

Thank you!

Sorry, I am not much help here....

I didn't see any hot chocolate....I am not 100% but I am guessing you would NOT be able to see the fireworks from any balcony and I never really went on the second beach except to do Pelican Plunge but I am sure there are some there back amidst all the palm trees.

Love this thread. Thank you for all the great pictures!!:mickeyjum

Welcome ;)

Thank you for sharing your lovely video! We sail in 74 days!

Not long now!!! :cool1:

Why do they have to ruin a hot dog with a whole wheat bun that falls apart. I was hoping they didn;t follow WDW on that one but I guess they did.
