Hockey Pockety Wockety Wack A Tale of A Trip from the Back of the Pack

I'm so proud of you. I feel like listening to your experience is like reading John's book. Your mentality is just exactly what he's describing, and you've inspired me so much to continue with my 5K training.

I'd gotten off the wagon, so to speak, but I'm ready to plunge back in. :thumbsup2

Again, your writing makes me feel like I am there with you. I haven't read the next update (about finding your friend) yet, but hope to catch up soon and am looking forward to it!

Congratulations on finishing the race. Sorry you couldn't celebrate like you wanted to because of your friend.

Thank you! I was pretty much okay with not being able to celebrate the way I wanted, I just wished that my friend could have been celebrating too. She was pretty okay with her finish, as she had known going in that it was going to be really tough for her. (She had been averaging nearly 20 min. miles beforehand). I really would have like for her to have that feeling too.

Great tale, right down to the happy ending. Congratulations again, I hope you display your medal proudly. And a great picture at the end!

Thanks Pete. Right now it's just hanging on a hook in my bedroom. I would like to get a display case for it, but the funds aren't there at the moment. As soon as I get either my tax return this year, or a work bonus I'm going to make sure it's displayed perfectly.

What an incredible journey you had!!! The last two pictures of you - the one when you crossed the finish line and the one with your medal - are absolutely beautiful!!! You look so incredibly happy and you should be! What an amazing feat... and one not too many people accomplish. You may not have cried at the end of your race, but I swear I teared up a bit when I read about you crossing the finish line! :goodvibes

I was definitely more emotional running the race than at the end. I was going to start crying at the Osborne Lights. The knowing I was going to do it was more moving to me, than actually doing it.

I'm still a bit amazed I did it. I couldn't wait to show my niece my medal. Earlier that year she had told me she didn't think I'd finish. She loved seeing the medal.

CONGRATULATIONS!! WOW You are AMAZING!!! WTG finishing the race!! What an inspiration you are!! I would love to do a Disney race someday!

Thank you! I had a lot more fun doing this one than the local 10k I did earlier last year. Disney is a great place for doing one. I loved that there were lots of first-timers, walkers, and other slow people. I didn't feel as alone as I did at the 10k.

I have been lurking here for awhile....just wanted to say congrats and way to go!!!!!:thumbsup2

Thanks! After all the drama before hand, I'm so glad that I had taken the chance and did it.

I was so mad I didn't get to use my food or drink tickets!! I should have given them all to DBF to enjoy while he was waiting for me...but he said it was packed pretty much the whole time!

There were way too many people at that party. I was so annoyed that I didn't get to use mine too. At least they could have let you use them another day. What a waste!

That book hit so close to home for me, and I felt it even more so after the race. I never would have thought that running would have that effect on me, or end up meaning so much.

Sadly I haven't done any running since then really, only a few walks, and nothing of any distance. I try, but getting out in this weather is just close to impossible for me. I'm hoping to start going back to the gym this week (if the snow isn't too bad Wed.) and work my way back into the C25K program. I really want to try to run a 10K (more running than walking) by the end of the year.

I don't blame you for being off the wagon. It's just way too cold out there! Brrr! I'll use just about any excuse in this weather not to go out, especially to exerise.

Congrats again! You are so inspiring. I'm sorry you were not able to celebrate to the full extent with your friend but that makes you an awesome friend and I'm sure she appreciated it. :goodvibes

I restarted my C25K yesterday. Thought of you!

I actually am very lucky, we have a gym that's part of our apartment complex, so I run on the treadmill. It's so much easier for me to keep track of my intervals that way as well, the real test will be the first time I try to run outside. I'm not brave enough to do that in this weather, that's for sure!!! :scared1:

I'm repeating week three right now, but I was amazed at how much my body wanted to run. It's an amazing feeling, and I'm so glad I have you and other DISers who share that feeling.

:goodvibes Wow I read your updates and that took some great determination:thumbsup2 I can't believe how long you had to run. 13miles. :scared1: I always thought they were only a couple of miles. :lmao:

I am not a runner, never have been so I am always amazed at people who love to run. But I agree with you it is just brutally cold lately:cold: and more snow, sleet rain coming tomorrow. I am so ready for the summer :warm:

PS We added one night at the beach club villas. It is our first night there and then we head over to AKL. But I can't wait to try out Stormalong Bay:woohoo:

It's been ages, but I don’t' know if it's been just the horrid winter we've been having or if it's just me, but I've been having a really rough time of it lately. I haven't been in the mood for much of anything in ages. I've been meaning to come back here and finish up this report, but haven't been able to seem to get my act together. At any rate, I managed to pull myself together and upload some pictures to get another post up. With any luck it shouldn't take that long to do the next one. Now I just need to get caught up on everyone else's threads. :lmao:

The day after the race we slept late, but not as late as we probably should have. We had probably gone to bed around 4/5 am and were up by about 10am or so. My friend was still feeling awful. She could barely walk and was hobbling around the room terribly. I on the other hand felt pretty good. I hadn't slept very well, since as soon as I got in bed all my muscles started tightening up and feeling a bit achey. By the time we got up though I was doing much better. My muscles were feeling just about normal the next day. If anything was giving me problems it was my feet. One of my toes was still feeling a bit numb (and continued to feel so for months) and the blisters were a bit tender, but other than that I felt great.

This was the day to enjoy the best reason to stay at the Beach Club - Stormalong Bay! My friend had forgotten her swimsuit, but she came down to the pool with me anyways. We picked up some lunch poolside, drank some delicious frozen drinks recommended to us by the cute, friendly poolside waiter. (It was almost like being on a cruise ship!)

While my friend relaxed in the shade reading a book, I plopped myself in the pool reveling in its sandy bottom goodness - so absolutely wonderful. I can be a complete pool rat. Once I get in, I practically have to be dragged out kicking and screaming. I wiled away my afternoon swimming and squishing my toes in the sand. So lovely. I was particularly entertained by the sinkholes, and the hidden hot tubs dotting the perimeter. I could have spent my entire vacations just hanging out by the pool. I did get a bit annoyed when I overheard a guy talking near me about how people who walked the 1/2 marathon didn't really deserve to get a medal. Pfft! He should only know how much that accomplishment means to some people. Eventually I dragged myself out of the pool to have another drink and take a few photos.

When we got back to the room we had a bit of time to rest before I put on my costume and we headed out to MNSSHP and our dinner ADR at Crystal Palace. My friend forgot to bring a costume (at least that she claims, I'd guess that she really didn't want to be bothered), so she had picked up a Disney halloween themed shirt for the night. I wasn't having a repeat of our December MVMCP/Ohana fiasco where we missed about 2 hours of the party due to the bus getting lost, the monorail shutting down temporarily and getting stuck in line on a broken down Space Mountain. I dragged my friend out the door of our hotel room way early for our ADR, but I was determined not to miss anything this time.

I shouldn't have worried so much. This was obviously going to be the trip that the transportation gods smiled on us, and as we walked down the hill to the bus stop there was a MK bus that waited for us to hop on. :thumbsup2Our ADR was for about 5pm so we had plenty of time before the official party started. We wandered through a few stores before heading to the Crystal Palace. I had been looking forward to this restaurant for awhile. It was one of the ADRs that I had to cancel last March when we got snowed in to NY and had to change our flight. I hadn't eaten there since before it was a character meal. We checked in early, and were seated right on time. Luckily they were celebrating Friendship day while we were there. :)

I think the Crystal Palace is one of the more beautiful restaurants at Disney.

We made a quick run up to the buffet, and I tried a few of the salads.

We were just getting back to our table when Tigger came to meet us. Tigger was very huggy!

My favorite Pooh character, Piglet, wasn't too far behind.

And everybody's favorite Pooh bear.

Not seeing anyone else coming we made a quick dash up to the buffet again to try some of the entrees. Everything was delicious. I'd recommend the Crystal Palace in a heartbeat for dinner. I think at the MK I still like the Liberty Tree Tavern a bit better, but this was almost as good. I've never tried CRT, but Tony's is one of my least favorite places at Disney.

I was pretty stuffed after that, but I did try a bit of the Key Lime pie for desert. Happily Eeyore managed to stop by for some hugs before we had to leave.

Dinner done it was time to head off and enjoy my favorite event at Disney - MNSSHP! We had loved it two years ago, would our second party live up to the first?

Hi, Crissy! Sorry to hear that you haven't been feeling all that great. Winter does that to me every year!

Love this update! The thought of spending most of the day at Stormalong Bay and then following it up with dinner at the Crystal Palace sounds just about perfect! Not to mention the promise of MNSSHP afterwards! :goodvibes

I'm so glad you are back and updated! I've been waiting to see how you felt the day after your race! A day in the pool, followed by MNSSHP sounds wonderful! Can't wait to hear how the party went for you! :goodvibes

Your day after the race sounded perfect...if I ever do it again that is my plan!! I have never stayed at Beach Club, but the pool there looks awesome :goodvibes Glad you had a nice relaxing day...and as the slowpoke run/walker I am, I would tell that guy to shut his mouth :lmao:

I'm SO happy you're back! :yay: I'm sorry you have been feeling bad this winter...I can definitely relate to that.
I haven't been to the Crystal Palace in years, but seeing your photos makes me want to go back! Do you remember what kind of salads they have?

I was so happy to see an update from you! :goodvibes How great it must have been to wake up the morning after the race feeling so good! Too bad some people (ignorant guy in pool) can put a damper on things, but I'm happy you didn't let it ruin your time at the pool! What's with people though?! :confused3

Great update and looking forward to hearing all about MNSSHP!!! :yay:

Thanks CP. It's been rough, and I've been trying to focus as much as possible on keeping my chin up. I've been finding it hard not having a Disney trip to plan this year. I wasn't expecting that!

I really loved Stormalong Bay. It was one of the most relaxing days I've had at Disney. The more I go there, the more I just enjoy kicking back and enjoying the things outside the parks.

I was surprised how good I was feeling the next day. I had been expecting to be sore, especially as I was tightening up before I went to bed. Honestly other than the tenderness on my feet I was great. Luckily the sand on the bottom of Stormalong Bay felt wonderful on them!

It was the perfect place to stay after the race. I feel so lucky that I got to stay there, I never thought that I'd be able to. It's one of the great things about traveling with a friend - you only have to pay half! ;)

I was so tempted to tell that guy what I thought, but decieded against it. I was so thrilled with what I had done. I knew what it meant to me.

I'm SO happy you're back! :yay: I'm sorry you have been feeling bad this winter...I can definitely relate to that.

I really enjoyed going to CP again. My only quibble was that it was a bit loud, but really most places at Disney are like that, especially if they are character meals. I completely forgot to take notes at the CP for dinner, and am drawing a complete blank on what kind they had. I only remember that they had a really good selection. :lmao:

Great update and looking forward to hearing all about MNSSHP!!! :yay:

I was so happy that that guy couldn't make me feel too bad. I actually felt bad for him, that he didn't know what an accomplishment that could feel like.

looked like a fabulous Day After the Race DAY!! Relaxing, for sure!!

by the way, I left you some yarn porn on my thread, in the Christmas update. :)

Loved your last update! Give me the Crystal Palace and the promise of MNSSHP and I'm happy! :)

Glad to have you back...glad the insulting guy didn't get to you...I never let ignorant a&&es bother me either.

Yeah... a new update.:goodvibes

I love CP. We always eat there but our next trip we are trying some new places. And if you have never tried CRT you must try it on your next trip. That is one place that is a must eat on everytrip.:cloud9:

So is Stormalong Bay that much fun? We are spending our first night there and then heading over to AKL. I like trying out new Resorts without committing our whole trip and DH just loves AKL so I snuck the Beach Club in before he could say no.:lmao:
