I know I’m a little behind in getting the next chapter written and posted. Well, part of the reason is that Judy and I recently had an evening out for a DIS-meet!

A few weeks ago I heard from my DIS-friend Hucifer (Wendy) that she’d be in my neck of the woods (kind of) and wondered if we could arrange a time and place to meet. Hucifer is, in my opinion, one of the best and most entertaining trip report writers on the DIS. I am in awe of her writing and was really excited to have a chance to meet her. Here are links to a couple of her completed reports.

Hucifer does the solo thing…sort of.

Hucifer and Dan's flipping huge trip report

Seriously, pick any chapter and you are pretty much guaranteed a laugh. Not like the drivel you read here (but don’t you dare stop reading my drivel!).

She of course, being Hucifer, had some stipulations. Well, just one really: No chain restaurants. Also, she’d be bringing a co-worker along, "A", who didn’t want to hear Disney talk all night long, so we had to find some other pleasant topics to discuss. Like maybe religion and politics. Anyway, on the “no chain restaurants” request, I immediately thought of one place that Judy and I had been to, pre-kids (so at least 16 years ago and probably more like 20), when we lived closer to where Wendy was going to be on this business trip. I mentioned the potential DISmeet to Judy and, bingo, she suggested the same place before I could even tell her where I was thinking, so we were aligned.

That place was Bube’s Brewery (pronounced like “b00bies”). http://www.bubesbrewery.com/

Wendy thought it looked like a good place and figured that "A" would like it on the name alone. So, we were a “go”.

She also told me that her husband thought she was “nuts” for meeting some people from the internet. She told him that she’d read my trip reports and I seemed very nice, and smiled in all my pictures. She didn’t think I was an axe murderer because I’d had other DIS-meets with people who supposedly returned safely to their families afterward. He asked her how she knew I didn’t just make up those other screen names? Her response was that I had pictures and everything. :rotfl2: Well, I completely understand her husband’s point of view, and that’s why we needed her co-worker "A" and my wife Judy to come along.

Anyway, the big day rolled around this past Tuesday. (Also known as "yesterday" since I'm posting this before midnight on Wednesday.) After work, Judy and I started driving to Bube’s. I had printed a few select chapters of Hucifer’s trip reports for Judy to read on the way to the restaurant since she didn’t know anything about her. Judy could only read two of them before she got a little queasy. (Judy gets queasy when she reads in a moving vehicle Wendy. Really, it wasn’t your writing.)

Wendy and "A" were able to leave work a little early and went ahead to the restaurant to enjoy some of the local brew. When Judy and I arrived, Wendy and "A" gave us kudos on our choice of restaurant and mentioned that they had been getting a little history lesson on the place while waiting in the bar.

There are several different eating areas at Bube’s, and tonight we’d be dining in the Catacombs. (I hope Wendy didn’t tell her husband that ahead of time. It sure wouldn’t help my “axe murderer” defense. ) We checked in at the podium and after a short wait a hostess escorted us on a little tour of the building. Oh wait, before we left on the tour, the hostess mentioned that if anyone might need to use the restroom in the near future we should do it before the tour because the Catacombs were 40-some steps down and there was no bathroom down there. We were all good to go. On the tour we saw some huge, wooden aging vessels, but the thing I was most impressed with was the fact that our tour guide could say the name of the restaurant without ever cracking a smile. :teeth:

Eventually, we made our way to the steps down to the Catacombs.

Then we dined and talked. The conversation ranged from the work that Wendy and "A" were doing, PChef, school teaching, kids, vacations, and a little Disney thrown in, despite "A". Although we did ramp-up the Disney talk when he left to go to the bathroom. :rotfl2:

I think Judy and I both used the phrase, "that was a looong time ago" way too much. We said it whenever they asked a question about our one other visit to Bube's Brewery or even the general area, where we'd lived before we had Marlene or James. To us, it seems like a lifetime ago. The only things I remembered about Bube's Brewery were the stairs in the above picture and the stone walls in the pictures below.

I think "A" really liked the restaurant. He mentioned that he now wanted to bring his wife there the next time they came to Baltimore for a baseball game. It’s not exactly close to Baltimore, but I was happy that he liked it. Wendy said it was better than other places they had been recommended near where they were working.

Sorry, but I didn’t take any food pictures. I didn’t want to freak "A" out, plus it was pretty dark down there and I would have had to use the flash, which would have been very noticeable to the other diners. I had a blue cheese-stuffed steak, and Judy got a chicken satay dish. I was happy with mine, but Judy was disappointed that her chicken was a little too vinegary.

The evening was unfortunately winding down, but before the moment passed, I asked a server to take a picture of us. Without pictures, it didn’t happen, right? She graciously took two pictures, and I ignorantly asked for third since at least one of the first two she took looked pretty out of focus.

During our meal, a couple of people in our party had to use the facilities and so had to backtrack up the steps and through the area we’d toured. When we finished our meal and left, they directed us a different way, up a different set of steps. While it still was 40-some steps up, it came out right beside the bathrooms.

Back upstairs, I got one more picture of just Hucifer and I. We had to find a good background, and Wendy put me in charge of that task since I had done such a good job during my DIS-meet with Capt. Oblivious. Hmm, how about a big cog?

Then we said our goodbye’s and went on our way back home. Thanks Hucifer for a great evening! You are a sweetheart and it was a thrill to meet you. Don’t forget to comment here often!

You said b00bies!!! Isn't that worse than condoms???

Wendy's husband is worried about YOU being an axe murderer??? It's good she wore more than just a scarf for this meal. I guess that was because she knew Judy would be there! Still, what a nice smile. Now I know why Russell was so taken by her..... :rolleyes1

And what better place to get a picture with the Goddess of Trucking than in front of a cog!!! :woohoo:

:lmao:

Good one Molly! Marv is the last person who can argue that! I see Judy's reflection in the glass covering the table. Hilarious!
Aww crap!!!

Okay, so 5 Judy's. I see her reflection in Glenn's glasses in the infamous cog picture!!! :goodvibes Rules Committee???? :confused3 Oh, never mind!!! :rolleyes1

Must be, since there's no DIS-filter on the latter.

Oh shoot, there was a scarf story I forgot about. When I first met her waiting for us in the bar, she was wearing a maroon and yellow scarf and all I could think about was Harry Potter because one of the chapters I had printed out for Judy was when she had dressed up as Harry Potter for MNSSHP. I forgot about all that grief we gave her over her scarf at Sci-Fi. I can't believe she still wanted to meet me after all of that teasing.

And what better place to get a picture with the Goddess of Trucking than in front of a cog!!! :woohoo:

How true! She is the Goddess of Trucking. :worship:

Aww crap!!!

Well, you can't win by a mere minute every time Liesa.

Yes, can you believe it -- Hucifer!

I'm just glad the restaurant met with their approval (and I think that's an understatement).

The steak definitely met with my approval!

My apologies to all whose trip reports I'm behind on (Liesa, I know you're one), but I've gotta go to bed.
