Magical Express bus involved in accident by airport

I love when news doesn't tell the full story...it's a Mears bus that is contracted to Disney.

:)

Disney's Magical Express shuttles guests staying at certain Walt Disney World Resort hotels to and from Orlando International Airport. The service buses are owned and operated by Mears Transportation.

The service is provided by Disney to Disney guests. The fact that Mears was contracted to provide the service is in the article but not in the headline. Makes sense to me. Also makes sense that a short article would only mention Disney. The fact that Disney contracts with Mears is not the most important part of the story.

It was a Magical Express bus...actually I think it was one of the Cruise Line ones...hard to tell..

I got stuck in this snarl this morning...as of 7:30a, they are still doing cleanup..I was almost late for work...what a mess, but glad that it wasnt worse.

Dax, it was definitely a DME bus, I just saw the story on WFTV.

OK I wasnt sure...when I went by this morning, the bus was long gone, but some of my coworkers said it was a DME bus..When I looked at the pictures, the bus looked like one of the ones they use on the cruise line, which they ALSO use for DME when its busy...so you never can tell.

The funny thing is that when everything is going okay it is called a Disney bus operating under Disney rules. The fact is that DME is busses owned by Mears operating under Mears management, with a Disney contract, where funds are paid to that contract by Disney.

What a horrible way to end a vacation, with a trip to the hospital after what was probably a scary crash! Great news that there weren't more injuries.

The newsman had every right to call it a Magical Express bus since it said "Magical Express" on the side. It also has "Mears" on the side, in small print. The operating rules are mutually agreed upon by both Mears and Disney.

I wondier if Disney (using existing or freshly invented procedures colloquially referred to "guest recovery" or "pixie dust") caused the bus trip to appear to the guests aboard as the first leg of a single homebound air itinerary* with connections. Plus cover the medical expenses and air rescheduling of the families of those injured. Guests aboard the bus may have been able to see if someone ran a red light so as to lead to the collision.

An astute investigator might dredge up seemingly superfluous details about whether the bus was running late and what boarding irregularities (such as seen in other threads on this forum) were encountered prior to leaving WDW.

This part is peripheral, to be used when there are extra newspaper inches or extra television seconds.

My turn to consume extra screen inches and extra reader seconds, or, now that I have the floor ...
* Some years ago I did an itinerary (not to Disney) that went something like this:
United flight XXXX Boston MA to San Francisco CA on a Boeing 737
United flight XXXX San Francisco CA to San Jose CA on a bus
The latter was boarded outside the main terminal in the ground transportation area.

(OT) Nashua to Boston is comparable, distance wise, to San Francisco to San Jose.

Assumption, is what again? Actually, I did read the link, thank you very much, however the story has since been modified, it originally had NO mention of MEARS.

As for the reference, I think it is more important to who the operator is then who the contract of service is with. If the operator is at fault you cannot blame Disney, you have to blame the operator and then subsequently question Disney's contract decision (ie. if this was a regular occurence, however I personally believe MEARS does a great job for what it's worth).

+1 When posters are "talking up" DME they say Disney sets up the rules. The big signs on the bus say Disney. We book DME through Disney. AFAIK Disney CMs check us in. The service is promoted by Disney not by Mears.

I understand Disney legal liability might be limited. JMO but a headline that refers to this as a Disney bus isn't wrong. I suspect the legal owner of the buses that take us from a resort to a theme park are owned by a leasing company or corporation Disney set up to own the buses.

The Legal lettering on all the DCL cruise line and DME buses is Mears Transportation!! who are the owners of the buses. Disney contracts Mears for the DME and Cruise Line shuttle work. The operators of these buses are employees of Mears not Disney.

the Buses that run between the theme parks. DTD and the resorts are owned by Disney as part of Disney Transportation.

Did they change the legal lettering on the busses. It used to be Mears Sestination Services.

Man, you guys are picky!! Would it have been better if the newstory had said..'A Mears bus, driven by a Mears employee working for Disney was in an accident'??
Technically, it is a Mears bus, but it can still be considered a Disney bus as well. It was operating for Disney at the time of the accident.

NO i was just trying to get a point across and couldnt think of the correct legal lettering at the time

Goofy4tink I agree they were being too picky so for my 2 cents I just put my answer out there and hoped that it would clarify who runs what company even if i did put the wrong legal lettering see above,

Lets be honest, the reason the news article states Disney is for sensationalism.

Absolutely true. Anytime anything or anyone associated with 'The Mouse' does anything vaguely newsworthy, it gets sensationalized.
