Day 5- Hi-diddle-dee-dee, it’s a nippy day at sea!
Thanks to GG we were up at the crack of dawn, so we did the usual routine of sending Divot up to deck 9 for coffee and hot chocolate. The kids absolutely loved the vintage Disney cartoons on the stateroom tv and even though they replayed the same ones, they never got tired of watching- This is usually how we passed the time until Triton’s opened at 8:00.
This morning, I had poached eggs with oatmeal(good), BASS had Mickey waffles and scrambled eggs(he liked them), GG had the melon boat with yougurt(you can’t mess this up) and Divot had Scuttle on the Run, which is eggs, ham, bacon, sausage and hash browns(good).
The kids really wanted to swim this morning, so we changed and headed to the Mickey pool.
This should have been an indication that it was not such a good idea
However, kids being kids, they wanted to try it anyway.
I imagine this is what it would be like trying to swim on the Alaska cruises...cold, windy and not much fun. I mean, just look at GGs expression, that says it all!
I really think Disney needs an indoor pool area like some of the other ships out there, especially for Alaska.
After claiming defeat, we abandoned the swimsuits and took the kids to the club for a magic show and adventure with Peter pan. Divot and T.Q. did the only thing that makes sense on a blustery day...we went to the cove for a Mickey latte.
I always asked for the Mickey ears topping on my drinks because it’s just so darn cute.
Divot (book in hand) headed upstairs to his usual perch, but I felt the need to do something...hmm, what to do on a day like this? The quiet cove pool looked so inviting, yet eerily empty- although the loungers were almost all covered with the belongings of late risers who were just now having breakfast. (guess they didn’t get the memo about not saving chairs).
Well, no chair saving was necessary today, especially since the hurricane force winds blew everything off of them anyway. It was fffreezing out there and I have a seriously low tolerance for cold. The pool, even at 80.4 degrees was still out of the question and the hot tubs are toasty while you are submerged, but as soon as you got out it was like you were in a winter hurricane.(even my cozy robe couldn’t salvage this experience) So, I gave up and went back to the room to change and check(spy) on the kids in the club.
GG was enthralled with Do-Si-Do With Snow White and BASS was busy building forts, so Divot and I had a quiet lunch by ourselves at Triton’s.
Divot had the chicken consomme’(good), the chef salad was not what you would expect- it was turkey and cheese on top of a cucumber & tomato salad (good, just different), I had the pulled pork with cole slaw(good).
The kids had hot dogs and chicken strips from pluto’s and then we got ready for the much anticipated Tea with Disney Friends.
We showed up 15 minutes early just to be certain Anil’s handwritten ticket would not be a problem. They were not expecting us but accommodated by setting a table up in the back. TIP: Line up at the Studio Sea entrance that is next to Shutters, not the side that overlooks the atrium.
At exactly 4:00 Peter Pan flings the door open, grabs GG’s hand and leads her to a seat in the front. Another CM quickly steps in and says “No, these people are crashers and must be banished to the back of the room like unloved step-children”-ok, not really, but he did tell Pan that we were to sit in the back. It was no big deal really- I was just glad to be there and it ended up being the reason we experienced a ‘magical moment’.
The tea is actually apple juice and chocolate chip cookies. I don’t really understand Peter’s involvement, because the party revolves around the princesses(Cinderella, Ariel & Snow) instructing the kids on etiquette as it applies to a tea party. After the juice and cookies are consumed the princesses walk around and visit the tables.
Because we were banished to the back, there were no other people around us and I guess Ariel felt sorry for the kids because she came back to our table and spent about 10 minutes talking to BASS and GG. She then asked Bass to dance(I think she made all his little 6 yr. old dreams come true) and it ended with him kissing her on the hand- it was really sweet.
The princesses and Peter then posed in front of their appropriate backdrops and everyone was invited to have pictures taken and autographs signed.
The kids really wanted to see Ariel again and this time BASS walked away with a souvenir!
The entire Tea process lasted about 40 minutes and it’s definitely worth it if your kids like princesses.
Repeat TIP: If you want to do this- get a early boarding number and run straight to guest services when you get on the boat.
Tonight Dinner was cruise casual at Triton’s and it was one of my favorite menus of the cruise.
We tried the the avocado citrus salad(very good), lobster mac & cheese(good),
french onion soup(very good),
escargot(good-even BASS liked them), bacon tart(ok-very rich, like a quiche),
Filet(good), lamb(very good), BASS had the kids surf & turf(good) and GG had the usual mac & cheese.
Dessert was creme brulee(very good), grand mariner souffle(ok-not as good as Palo), panna cotta bread pudding(ok).
After dinner the kids wanted to go to the Royal Ball in the club (I told you they liked the clubs) and Divot and I decided to dabble in some adult mischief and all I remember is singing happy birthday to a CM in the Outlook bar and singing happy birthday to a sweet little girl in the Cove Cafe- This was all courtesy of Senor Don Julio, of course.
After rescuing the club from the kids we went back to our cozy stateroom of refuge where we found a towel bunny hanging out on the bed eating chocolates and reading tomorrow’s navigator...
