Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Cruise, Oct 30th,2010 Magical Western NewTR link 4/10

OMG thanks a lot, I gained 10 pounds just LOOKING at that......wow!!!:p
right, that and i just drooled all over the laptop from that awesome porn

No, I almost don't want to tell you - it's been sunny and close to 60 here - very strange. We had almost a year's worth of snow in November though. I'll try to send some sunshine your way!

The food porn is amazing! How fun that you had a private chef - way to live it up!

oh then neither of you want to hear that us in So Cal have been freezing at a big 65-68, lol. Ya for us thats damn cold LOL. Break out the hoodies, but most of us still wear flip flops too LOL Thats how we roll.

oh and how fun for a personal chef.. but i know.. thats how you roll :)

I went back up to Deck 10 to hang out with Pods (after I put my prized Walt & Lily on Deck pic back in our cabin) who was spending the day reading his book and refilling his beer mug. I grabbed a spot above the Goofy Pool, and was happy to be entertained by the Ice Carving demo- and my DOTD-

IMG_0637.jpg

Fastpaks et al joined me on nearby lounge chairs, and it was great chatting with them, as we had just met at the Brunch. Here's their pic again...not at the pool, but from the Brunch- I think it's such a nice one of them I am happy to include it again!

IMG_0635.jpg

We spent alot of time discussing the wonders of the DIS...you know, how nice everyone is, how wonderful to have so many people to hang out with on the cruise :goodvibes...And....it was FINALLY raining...but everyone still sat there, because it was warm enough, and we were all grateful enough that we had not been subjected to steady rain until now. :thumbsup2 Pods had enough of it pretty quickly, though, and went back to our balcony to read-

IMG_0638.jpg

Of course, taking with him his other activity of the afternoon, the refillable beer mug. Eventually the rain became more steady, and I joined him. I was getting hungry, so I ordered some room service. Which would arrive, they said, in 20 minutes.

Ummm...not today, my friends. :sad2: I think when the rain really started to come down, everyone on the ship thought it would be nice to go back to the cabin and order room service. EVERYONE. Because we waited and waited and waited...and I became hungrier, and hungrier....and we called again, and they apologized, and said they were swamped, but would come to us in another 20 minutes....and when another 35 minutes went by, I couldn't take it anymore because all those fishies I ate at brunch that morning can only swim in my belly for so long, and I was STARVING!!!!! :scared1: And, as we all know, that just can NOT EVER happen on a cruise! :rotfl: So we went up to Deck 9 in search of munchies. I think it was right around 5:30, and there was nobody out there- it was a ghost ship. AND...most of the snack areas were closing up...something to keep in mind if you want a little something around this time of day. :rolleyes1 One side of Pluto's/Pinocchio's was still serving- it just looked like they were done, but truly, they were not. With a big smile, they handed me the best cheeseburger I have EVER downed in roughly 30 seconds in my whole life. :rotfl: Piled high with fixins from the fixins bar, I meant to have just a half, since we were going to dinner in just a couple of hours, but really, once I started that sucker....I just couldn't stop. I think I may have eaten the whole thing standing next to a garbage can, maybe I was even standing IN the garbage can...I didn't care. I had FOOD and it was GOOOOOOOOOOD! :rotfl2:

We went back to the cabin, and there was a knock at the door. TA-DAAAAA!

Mac & cheese-

Steak Sammy-
IMG_0640.jpg

I won't lie- I had a bite of each, and they both tasted great! And I am a huge fan of those steak fries, too! Since I was all cleaned up with nowhere to go for a couple of hours, and we were skipping tonight's show, Dreams, because we had seen it last time (I like this show alot, though!) we decided to go have a glass of wine at Sessions.

IMG_0641.jpg

IMG_0642.jpg

Our server was a dynamite CM, I wish I could remember her name!! She and her roomate were serving us. We were the only people in there. :confused3 What she said was this week's crowd didn't spend alot of time here...the previous cruise, this venue had been packed every night. Nonetheless, I ordered a glass of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc. Pods stayed commited to his refillable mug. On the last cruise, my order had come with the cutest tray, filled with a little scroll describing the wine and offering little tastes of things to accompany that. It was SO COOL! But...no more. :sad1: So our awesome server brought over some olives and nuts for us instead- such a sweetie!

IMG_0643.jpg

She shared her life with us- she is married to a man she met onboard who used to work for the ship, and lives in Italy. She was about to go on vacation home, and I believe she was coming back, but her roomie was not. These CM's have such a challenging life! But they really seem to give it their all, and are happy about the opportunity She offered to take our photo- as you can see, I was going with comfy shoes before we went to dinner.

IMG_0645.jpg

It was very relaxing in Sessions, and when we paid our tab, we went back to round up the boys to clean up for dinner, dragging them out of the Edge while Pods hopped in the shower. We had a friend waiting for us when we returned to our cabin-

IMG_0646.jpg

Up next...semi-formal night for the Captain's Gala!

Great update! I can't wait to take this cruise, only 295 days to go! Thanks for keeping me entertained in the meantime!;)

Woohoo!!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

mouth is watering.................................:flower3:

OMG thanks a lot, I gained 10 pounds just LOOKING at that......wow!!!:p

I'm so glad you enjoyed it!! I know we all did while we were having all of it!!:goodvibes

Thanks so much for updating your trip report. I could dream of being somewhere nice:) We got 18inches of snow here today!

UGH...we had a lot of ice this week- and we're having snow etc tomorrow again....I'm still ok with it, because I had the AMAZING break in STJ, but the first words out of everyone's mouths lately are "I am soooooo DONE with the snow!"

Talk about a food fest! Wow. Good thing I'm not on a diet (today ) or that would have been sheer torture. I want one of each. The sushi looks great.

Bushwacker eh? Interesting. I'll have to goggle that because that sounds like a fun drink to make. $8 pictures of sangria. WOW!

If you're making a bushwacker (or a pitcher of them) just remember...be generous with your pours!:thumbsup2 There is a LOT of alcohol, but you truly don't taste a drop!

No, I almost don't want to tell you - it's been sunny and close to 60 here - very strange. We had almost a year's worth of snow in November though. I'll try to send some sunshine your way!

The food porn is amazing! How fun that you had a private chef - way to live it up!

Yes, please send that sunshine- although it's sunny today, but I would like the 60 degrees, too- I believe we are around 12 right now. BRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!

Thank you!! :worship: Thank you!! :worship: Thank you!!

Now only do you take wonderful pics of beaches, turquoise waters and happy people ...............

food porn, too!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :lmao:

Thank you so much for the update, it was just what I needed. Lots of work to get through until half term and the occasional visit to your thread brings me back to the good life!

You're welcome, Karin! And what's funny is that EVERYONE waits to eat- all 7 of them- until I have taken my pics. I find it very empowering with the men, who have the occupations of aero-scientist, business owner, and plastic surgeon. And CPA, but I already know I can boss him around any old day! :rotfl:

MAGICFOR2,
You may send me some of the 60 degree weather. This is our deepest snowfall since 2000/2001. Brrrr. It is 1 degree at the moment but my spouse said, at least it is above zero. Silly man. :rotfl:
We are planning to visit Oregon this summer. I am from the NW (Spokane) and we have been trying for many years to find jobs in the NW, preferably OR but WA will work just fine also. Problem arises in finding good jobs comparable to what we have here. Our summer visit is to scout out places we would like to live and then target those areas for jobs. Sorry I am rambling; I will attribute my rambling to "snow brain". I will now return this station to the regularly scheduled program "Ellen's Entertainment for her Friends".

OMG!!! I LOVE that!!!! :rotfl2: Thanks! :thumbsup2

Officially UN-subscribing!

I am 4 days into a 30 day detox/cleanse program (gluten free, dairy free, everything organic, everything raw whole foods, etc) and I almost PASSED OUT looking at your food porn!

Off to eat an apple...or maybe an organic banana. Unfortunately it doesn't dance.

(but keep it comin' anyways!) :rotfl:

Sorry!! :flower3: If it makes you feel any better, i posted while doing South Beach! :) Good luck with those organic carrots!

drooooool!

Thanks!

::yes::

Love food porn. Love Sangria. Love Mojitos. Love chops. Love seafood. That looks like it was a delicious trip! :thumbsup2

Last night DH made a coconut ginger soup that was to die for. He also made a mean chicken curry. Not shabby for a white boy. I am feeling a little sick so I didn't get to enjoy as much as I normally would.

It was really great Sangria & it was a perfect Mojito.- hope you are feeling better!!

Oh so much good food & such wonderful accommodations! There ought to be a law against not taking us!:goodvibes

Kid-at-Heart, my DIL is from Spokane. From what I hear it is very depressed, not many jobs right now.:sad2:

I'm sorry- next time you can all hop in my luggage!

Great pix Ellen !!! So much to chose from to pick a favorite !!!But that chicken and potatoes looked awful good !!!!

You would love the chicken, Rosie- Kevin says it is the world's best!:thumbsup2

right, that and i just drooled all over the laptop from that awesome porn

SHUT IT, Sister!! 68 degrees? Actually, the one time I spent a week in LA, it was like that- I kept saying WTH?? Where's the California Sunshine?? While I was strolling in Venice Beach. Somehow 68 just feels colder over near LA, I think! :cool2:

Great update! I can't wait to take this cruise, only 295 days to go! Thanks for keeping me entertained in the meantime!;)

You're welcome!! I wish I had enough DCL material to keep you entertained the whole 295 days, though!

:goodvibes Thanks, I still feel like shiz and have almost every flu like symptom that just keeps coming and going. I hate being sick and rarely get sick but when I do, it tends to linger.

:thumbsup2 Great update. I have been that hungy before. :rotfl2:

Um, Its 82 here, and they are redoing the A/C at work. It's been miserable. Not to rub it in...I wish we could all get some more reasonable temps, warmer for ya'll, cooler for me!!! :sad2:

Sounds like a wonderfully relaxing afternoon. I was trying to figure out what in the world we were doing to have totally and completely missed the rain altogether..now I remember (it wasn't much);)

IIRC, we had issues with room service that day too, I believe that night was the worst of the cruise, the night we were "forgotten" too.

Bring on tha lobstah!! :thumbsup2

And another great update!
You know, I didn't even know they did ice-carving demos on the ships!!! :scared1:
I really need to read those navigators! :rotfl2:

Can't wait for the next update! Work is challenging at the moment and I really need a GOOD distraction! :thumbsup2

I am with Pods on this one, rain on the deck encourages reading on the balcony. I can just imagine the relaxing feeling of sound of the rain and the ocean... Heck with reading, it would probably put me to sleep.

Great update Ellen! :thumbsup2

And, yes, isn't it a bummer that Sessions doesn't give out the little chocolates/cheese/crackers with the wines any more? :confused3 We used to love going there and get such special treatment. Which we still got great service, just no cheese. The best bartender ever on any Disney cruise, Yelena, said they don't do that anymore. Which is a darn shame. But, we still enjoy going to Sessions for a nice relaxing atmosphere for a before/after dinner drink. And she will make you anything you want. Or try to make you something wonderful and amazing that you would like. We can't say enough about her.

Sorry to hijack but to us this is the best CM on DCL. She is just wonderful! So knowledgable, and friendly, easy going and amazing. Yelena - a BIG SHOUT OUT TO YOU!

And she told us on our last cruise that she got promoted and was going into management. And also that she was going to the DREAM.

Ellen - I've been following your trip report for a while (and Jen's too) - I'm from Westfield it's fun following a neighbor... following .... not stalking... I swear. I've had DS and DH read your trip report to get an idea of what our cruise will be like - we sail on 2/19. Buh bye ice and snow!

I keep wondering if DS Jake has played Timmy in a sport because he looks so familiar. Jake's also 11. Does Timmy play basketball or soccer? Of course he could look familiar because I've been reading your trip report for weeks now...

I hope your report is complete before I leave for my cruise ... no pressure

aww man good to know not to order room services when it rains LOL

I was going to say the refillable beer mug looks small from the balcony room pics with Pods, but then I saw a better view in the next pic. its a NICE SIZE!! hmm good to know for next time! lol

and I so would have pulled what you did, ate the burger, ate the room service then go to dinner LOL

I love getting to know the CMs too and when they share their personal stories. In 2007 we met a Dream Team CM who blessed us with an afternoon long Dream doing various things around the park from watching the fireworks from the Astro Orbitor deck to waving in the boats on IASW (the girls got to be on deck, cried like a baby as it's my alltime favorite) but anyway......during that time we got to find out about her children, husband, career before Disney (she was retired); it was truly so special.

Those are the moments that make Disney so magcial. :cloud9:

Oh and Grey Goose slushies too. :lovestruc

Morning Ellen !!! I loved watching the ice carving when I was on my 1 and only cruise many years ago!!! How great to have Dis friends to chat with!!!

Great update Ellen! :thumbsup2

I remember Yelena!! She was our bartender in 2008 for the martini tasting and then she was the one who gave me THIS-

I am so happy to hear she got promoted, she truly deserves it! :goodvibes

:goodvibes Thanks, I still feel like shiz and have almost every flu like symptom that just keeps coming and going. I hate being sick and rarely get sick but when I do, it tends to linger.

:thumbsup2 Great update. I have been that hungy before. :rotfl2:

So sorry you're still not feeling great! What a pain to have it linger.:hug:

OMG...that hungry...Pods was wise to keep his hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times, because if they had gotten near me...it would have gotten messy! :rotfl:

Um, Its 82 here, and they are redoing the A/C at work. It's been miserable. Not to rub it in...I wish we could all get some more reasonable temps, warmer for ya'll, cooler for me!!! :sad2:

You will find no sympathy from anyone here!

:thumbsup2

That's interesting....what time did you order?

And another great update!
You know, I didn't even know they did ice-carving demos on the ships!!! :scared1:
I really need to read those navigators! :rotfl2:

Can't wait for the next update! Work is challenging at the moment and I really need a GOOD distraction! :thumbsup2

Yes, reading the Navigators can be very helpful! :rotfl: Not that I read MINE that day! :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

Hope work gets easier for you soon! You are such a wonderful person, I can only begin to imagine what a spectacular educator you must be!

I am with Pods on this one, rain on the deck encourages reading on the balcony. I can just imagine the relaxing feeling of sound of the rain and the ocean... Heck with reading, it would probably put me to sleep.

Yea...he had the right idea- he was happy on that balcony, I am so happy we had one! :goodvibes

Hi Lisa!!! How cool!! You live just next door- I am right on the border of Scotch Plains and Westfield- I can hear the pool from my deck in the summer.

Wish I could hear that sweet sound right now.

FYI- the ice is CRAZY this morning- I took Timmy & his friend to baseball practice, and as I was making a left from Dudley onto Mountain Ave I saw a big accident to the right, and up Mountain there were 2 more. On the way back, four cars in accidents on East Broad. BE CAREFUL!!!!

I think we might go to Theresa's tonight, I have a craving!! How funny we live so close!

My kids play Baseball and basketball- but Timmy plays Basketball in the rec league- so I think we just play other SP kids. But please say hi if you ever see me around town- you have the big advantage of knowing what I look like, you know! :goodvibes

aww man good to know not to order room services when it rains LOL

I was going to say the refillable beer mug looks small from the balcony room pics with Pods, but then I saw a better view in the next pic. its a NICE SIZE!! hmm good to know for next time! lol

The mug was a good size- they actually didn't have any to sell on this cruise, they were backordered or something, but Pods brought his from our last cruise and still got the bigger beer for the smaller price! :thumbsup2 Unfortunately....the mug broke after the cruise before we went home. I couldn't BELIEVE how po'd Pods was! He certainly let the expletives fly on that one. :rotfl2::rotfl2: Who knew he was so attached??

And I took a BITE of the room service- I didn't eat the whole thing. Pods was there, I think he would have been grossed out for good if I would have polished all of that off! :scared1: :lmao::lmao:

Wonderful trip report. I'm loving it!!! :goodvibes

Thank you so much for saying so!! It makes me feel GREAT to know people are enjoying the trip with me! :goodvibes

I love getting to know the CMs too and when they share their personal stories. Oh and Grey Goose slushies too. :lovestruc

What a great experience THAT must have been!!! I teared up a little just reading it! WHEN you go on the Disney Cruise....you will have tons of CM interactions like that (well, not winning the Dream thing, but getting to know the CMs). Because you see these CMs repeatedly on the ship, you really get to know their stories- what is often most fascinating, is that their stories are international, and can involve incredible circumstances that brought them to life on a cruise ship. Really, really cool.

Oh- and your last line- :thumbsup2 :rotfl2: :yay:

Morning Ellen !!! I loved watching the ice carving when I was on my 1 and only cruise many years ago!!! How great to have Dis friends to chat with!!!

DIS friends are a very good thing, Rosie!! Mornin!!!
