Everything Old Is New Again! - A Dec 2010 Trip Report : THE FINAL ENTRY page 45

I think we just used it as general vacation funds, but I really don't recall what it was all used on. I know I bought a couple of pins with it.
I'm sure Bambi will assist me with remembering.

We used it to purchase an adventure for our children and pictures that am sure will come in the next update. Will there be a next update?

Well, when I left off I had finally put of the check-in headache behind me. This is vacation, darn it! It's time to have fun!
While I was waiting for the last set of keys to be made, I got a text from Bambi, saying that they were taking the kids to the pool. After getting back to the treehous....WAIT A MINUTE! I never posted pictures of the Tree House, did I? It's not something I typically do, but I do recall getting a few requests for pictures, so here you go...
(by the way, since I don't usually post pictures of the hotel rooms, I didn't actually take any. These were all borrowed from Kaylene's Facebook page...:rolleyes1)

Tub/Shower in master bathroom. One glaring mistake that Bambi's dad immediately pointed out: see that little strip of green between the tub and the wall? It's about 3/4" below the tub, and there is no drain. Basically, whenever you take a shower, it fills up with water and it has not where to go. Bad design there, Disney.

So, there you have it. A mini-tour of the inside of a Tree House Villa. Now, back to what ever it was I was saying just a minute ago...

I got back to the Tree House to find Grandma & Grandpa on the couch, watching football. The day was December 5, and like any good vacation, I totally forgot what day of the week it was. During one of my lobby-waiting adventures, I decided to stave of the boredom by checking what was happening in the outside world on my Blackberry. What's this? It's Sunday and the not only are the Packers playing, but beating the 49ers pretty good. (On a side note, what do you think of those Acme Packers throwbacks? Pretty sweet, huh?)
107376962_display_image.jpg

Well, I grabbed my swimming gear and headed back over to Saratoga Springs. The Tree Houses have their own pool, but it's just a pool - no slide or anything - so Bambi, Kaylene & the kids went over to the main pool, High Rock Springs. It's a nice, large pool area with a good sized slide winds you around large rocks and vegetation. (Sorry, no pictures. We didn't even grab the camera). I met up with them, changed into my suit and we swam around for about 15 minutes or so. By that time, the sun had disappeared behind the Carriage House and it was getting chilly. And that's coming from a native Wisconsinite, so you know it was cold out!

We dried off and drove back over to the Tree House to get ready for dinner. I'll try to have that update later today.

The church childcare recruitment one was very well done. I totally would not leave my kids with the main character. Who oddly enough wore a shirt that bears a striking resemblance to your DISBoards avatar...

Thanks! I wouldn't leave my kids with that moron, either. But I'm sure you still noticed the low-budget quality of the video.

Bathroom sink: (I really love that faucet!)

::yes::

One glaring mistake that Bambi's dad immediately pointed out: see that little strip of green between the tub and the wall? It's about 3/4" below the tub, and there is no drain. Basically, whenever you take a shower, it fills up with water and it has not where to go. Bad design there, Disney.

Boy, that one really makes no sense. I can't come up with any reason why they'd do that. :confused3

So, there you have it. A mini-tour of the inside of a Tree House Villa. Now, back to what ever it was I was saying just a minute ago...

Cool! Looks like a great place to stay. Both rustic and comfortable. And I don't remember what you were saying before, either.

(On a side note, what do you think of those Acme Packers throwbacks? Pretty sweet, huh?)
107376962_display_image.jpg

:crazy2: Well, I'd certainly throw 'em back.

(Sorry, no pictures. We didn't even grab the camera).

:sad2:

By that time, the sun had disappeared behind the Carriage House and it was getting chilly. And that's coming from a native Wisconsinite, so you know it was cold out!

Oh, come on. I thought you guys went ice-fishing bare-handed.

Nice update Barry! But tisk, tisk, no room pictures?!? And having to snag some off of Kaylene's FB page just to post them? Wow.

Did she get one from the TOP of the end tables in the living room - so that everyone can see what they look like? Hmmm? No? Bummer. A nice big ole hidden Mickey there, that's what it is.

And you're right, the pool over there is pretty basic

2010-0112-00124.jpg

But since they weren't really able to do much over there until they found a way to rebuild them and actually reduce the overall footprint, it makes sense that nothing special was done to the pool.

Looking forward to more!

Well, when I left off I had finally put of the check-in headache behind me. This is vacation, darn it! It's time to have fun!
Fun wasn't standing in line, having no-working keys, and going back to the check-in desk 5 times?:confused3

So, there you have it. A mini-tour of the inside of a Tree House Villa. Now, back to what ever it was I was saying just a minute ago...
Loved the pictures! It looks very nice in there! ::yes::

(On a side note, what do you think of those Acme Packers throwbacks? Pretty sweet, huh?)

Besides that fugly circle on the front I actually like them.:lmao:

By that time, the sun had disappeared behind the Carriage House and it was getting chilly. And that's coming from a native Wisconsinite, so you know it was cold out!
As I recall, Sunday was one of the warmer days.... :rolleyes1 popcorn::popcorn::

Great update!

We (meaning me) did grab the camera. I even tried to take pictures but the battery was dead. We really should replace that thing.

:crazy2: Well, I'd certainly throw 'em back.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Glad it was not me that said it.:lmao:

Oh, come on. I thought you guys went ice-fishing bare-handed.

Only people with really expensive trucks, 4-wheelers and snowmobiles ice fish. If you do not have these very expensive toys then you have nothing to drag out of the lake. Barry has mentioned a few times on here that he is cheap and therefore does not own these very expensive temporary man made reefs.

As I recall, Sunday was one of the warmer days.... :rolleyes1 popcorn::popcorn::

It was warmer than the rest but it was cold when you got out of the water. At least the kids got one day to swim.

I'm here (thanks to the pic on Tim's thread). Now I have to go back and read (I may not comment until tomorrow).

***Okay, I finished so I can comment tonight.

First, it is VERY hard writing on yoru TR since you are a Packer fan. :sad1:

And I agree with Mark--get rid of those "throwback uniforms".:sick:

But any friend of Tim and Mark's, etc., can't be all that bad. Wait, maybe I should have said all that "good?"

Love the fact you were able to get your different flavored shakes at WCC. We had the bottomless chocolate one; unfortunately, it was the ONLY part of the meal we liked.

Looks like the kids had a great time on the ponies; good thing that they weren't with you with all that mess with checking in. Glad they did something for you, but they should have done more.

Love the photos of the Treehouse Villa...that is the first time I've seen the inside of one.;

Joining in! (From Tim's TR)

Interesting, we checked in that weekend (over at All Star Movies) and had the worst time too. Kind of glad to hear it wasn't just us! It took us an hour to check in...then they gave my cousin and I a King room...so back we went! I totally feel your pain.

We stayed at the Treehouse villas back in the 90s. My Mom would love to see these pictures of the new villas!

Boy, that one really makes no sense. I can't come up with any reason why they'd do that. :confused3
My guess is that the decorators decided how everything should look before running it by anyone in Walt Disney World Plumbing. (Come on, the resort is 47 square miles, has 4 theme parks, 2 water parks and 15 hotels. You don't think they have their own plumbers?)

Cool! Looks like a great place to stay. Both rustic and comfortable.
We loved it. Lots of room...even having 8 people in there it never felt like we were on top of each other.

:crazy2: Well, I'd certainly throw 'em back.
Of course they can't hold a candle to the classic Green & Gold, but they're better that some throwbacks. Tampa's cream sickles, anyone?

Oh, come on. I thought you guys went ice-fishing bare-handed.
We used to, but the Department of Natural Resources decided it was an unfair advantage and handicapped us by making us use poles and bait.

On a related note, I had so much luck one year with a certain hole that I drilled in the ice that I used that same hole the next winter. :rotfl2:

Nice update Barry! But tisk, tisk, no room pictures?!? And having to snag some off of Kaylene's FB page just to post them? Wow.
Yup, I'm a thief. But at least I'm an honest thief.
I'll make it a point to take pictures of Kidani village in June for that TR, just for you.
Did she get one from the TOP of the end tables in the living room - so that everyone can see what they look like? Hmmm? No? Bummer. A nice big ole hidden Mickey there, that's what it is.
I don't see one. Feel free to post one if you have it. :thumbsup2

nice update barry!:thumbsup2 one day ill venture away from okw!:lmao:
Really, Dave? I doubt it. :rotfl2:

Fun wasn't standing in line, having no-working keys, and going back to the check-in desk 5 times?:confused3
You have an odd sense of "fun"...

We (meaning me) did grab the camera. I even tried to take pictures but the battery was dead. We really should replace that thing.
Yes, dear.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Glad it was not me that said it.:lmao:

She wouldn't even let me take the rented SUV out on the ice a few weeks ago. I wonder if paying for the added insurance covers you if it falls into a lake?:confused3

If it helps, my wife (E3yore) is a Bears fan.

But any friend of Tim and Mark's, etc., can't be all that bad. Wait, maybe I should have said all that "good?"
Tim's not my friend. He's my nemesis.
And Mark just lets me hang around and bask in his awesomeness.

(did you see that - I even typed that sentence with a straight face! Of course, I was biting the inside of my cheek the entire time...:lmao:)

We've been there 3 times and always had a great time and good food.

Love the photos of the Treehouse Villa...that is the first time I've seen the inside of one.;
Glad I could provide that for you. They really are great places to stay - especially with the kids that age. We can let them run around the whole villa and be as loud as they want. Since you're not sharing a wall with anyone else, there's no way they can bother the neighbors!

Computer upgrades never go smoothly. I can only imagine the headaches Disney was having behind the scenes. :headache::headache:

I wouldn't want to drive a cheap truck, 4 wheeler or snowmobile out onto a lake with nothing between me and freezing water but a layer of ice. Now if I had some kind of a cool amphibious vehicle... maybe.

She wouldn't even let me take the rented SUV out on the ice a few weeks ago. I wonder if paying for the added insurance covers you if it falls into a lake?:confused3

Because I know that only expensive things go through the ice. And forgive me for wanting to keep my children (and you) safe. If you went through the ice you would have died (either by the ice or me).

You killed your battery from all the texts the first time.

I agree. We should go back. What do you say? I think I am free next weekend. Or this weekend. Heck, I will free my schedule. Anytime you want to go I am good.

That picture sure has attracted some attention, huh? :rotfl2:

Would you stop using that picture. How am I suppose to embarrase him at his graduation or wedding if it is already all over the internet? :confused3

Computer upgrades never go smoothly. I can only imagine the headaches Disney was having behind the scenes. :headache::headache:

I have an idea. You should apply to work there. You could have made it run smoothly. And if not that's fine too. The kids and I will be at the Parks while you work. :cool1:

Hi Barry :wave2:, joining in from Tim's too because of that pic. It was hysterical! LOL, I love that your wife wants to use it to embarass him when he gets older. Definitely save it for the wedding - if you use it for graduation he'd probably just joke around with his friends, at the wedding it'll be more embarassing.

Thanks for posting about the shakes at Whispering Canyon. My fiancee and I want to go back (we went in Aug with my sister) and I'm glad to know that I can try other flavors. I'm definitely starting with caramel. Wow you guys helped Kayden with a lot firsts for that trip, Disney, milk shakes, gotta see what else was brand new for him.

 Loved the angry eyes comment. I'm glad to hear you were nicely compensated for the hassle.

BTW, your family is adorable. :) Now I'm off to read your two previous TR's.

We had just gotten out of the pool at Saratoga Springs and headed back to the Tree House to get changed for dinner. This was our first time using the Dining Plan and we had explained to the kids that to pay for our meals, all we had to do was give the server our room key and the meal would be paid for. Evan thought that was the coolest thing and asked if he could pay for dinner with his key. We said "sure", and he made sure to remind us about it every 30 minutes or so for the rest of the day.
We had some time to kill before Chef Mickey was expecting us, so we drove over to the Contemporary for a Monorail ride around the resorts loop.

From the monorail, looking at the giant Mickey shaped wreath hanging on the outside of the Contemporary.
IMG_3006.JPG

Kaylene and Kayden's first Monorail ride!
IMG_3011.JPG

It sure was an interesting ride. As much as we enjoy the "highway in the sky" and always make it a point to ride it each trip (even if we took a bus to MK and don't need to), watching first timers ride it was a treat. Stopping at the Poly and Grand Floridian have become common place for us, but Kaylene - and Kayden especially - peering out the windows and doors to catch a glimpse of the lobbies, the decorations, the landscaping, etc really gives you a new perspective on how special the Disney World Resort is.

IMG_3016.JPG

IMG_3020.JPG

Waiting at the Magic Kingdom stop. And probably wondering why we aren't getting off.
IMG_3023.JPG

IMG_3021.JPG

After a few stops to "wait for traffic to clear", we were pulling back into the Contemporary and heading back down stairs to get checked in. Evan had forgotten his wallet in the car, so I ran outside to get it while everyone got in line to check in. As I came back up stairs and started toward the podium, my heart sank. The line to check in was humongous! I started making my way past all these people, expecting to see Bambi stuck somewhere in the middle. To my relief, she was just walking away from the podium, gathering everyone to get in the relatively short line for pictures with the big plate. Whew...

Photo0001FourBySix.jpg

IMG_3030.JPG

Photo0023FourBySix.jpg

After the picture, we got our pager and headed over to the holding pen - sorry, waiting area, to relax and take a load off.
IMG_3032.JPG

I also took the opportunity to snap a few picture of Bambi's handy work with the Mickey themed beads that she but in Madison's hair before the trip. (I would like to point out that I helped. I picked the different colored beads out of the container and handed them to her.)
IMG_3046.JPG

They had a TV on in the waiting area, but Hanna Montana was not keeping us entertained. Why can't it be showing classic Disney cartoons like just about every other TV on property? The kids have four or five DVDs of the classics that they can watch over and over and get just as manly laughs on the 100th viewing as one the 1st.
At least watching the monorails pass by kept us fairly entertained until we got seated. We were seated around the buffet to the right, directly underneath the Monorail tracks. Every few minutes, there would be a "whrrrr" and the area would shake just a bit. After the first few times, you didn't even notice it anymore.
It took a little convincing of the kids that we could got get our food and that we wouldn't miss any characters. Eventually we loaded our plates with "round one" and and the characters started coming.
IMG_3053.JPG

IMG_3067.JPG

Time to wave your napkins and dance! (Side note: I'm sure the cleaning crew just loves whatever guy in the entertainment division came up with little move. Let's have the kids twirl their used napkins in the air, throwing little bits of discarded food all over the carpet!)
IMG_3123.JPG

IMG_3075.JPG

It was time for the characters to take a break, so like any gentlemouse, Mickey escorted Minnie through the kitchen doors.
IMG_3078.JPG

IMG_3086.JPG

You'll have to excuse Evan's mouth. He was in the middle of his Oreo Mickey dessert when the head cheese came by. Evan' list of what is important:
  1. Food
  2. Everything Else
IMG_3101.JPG

IMG_3106.JPG

I've heard lots of people complaining about the food at Chef Mickey's. Maybe there's another "Chef Mickey's" on property that everyone else goes to, because I've never had a bad meal here. Everything that I tried - and that would be just about everything - was delicious. And if there is something that you don't care for, it's a buffet! Push it to the side of your plate and go get something else.

Soon enough it was time to settle up the bill, so Evan pulled out his wallet.
IMG_3116.JPG

Checking out the damage:
IMG_3118.JPG

Maybe if I open it slowly, it won't be so expensive...
IMG_3119.JPG

HOLY PEANUT BUTTER YOU GUYS ARE EXPENSIVE TO FEED!
IMG_3120.JPG

He needed a little help signing his name
IMG_3125.JPG

Proof Positive that Evan paid for dinner.
IMG_3127.JPG

Thanks Evan! Now, about chipping in for actually paying for the dining plan...

Coming Up Next...
A nighttime stroll around the Tree Houses

Hey, that's how Disney World is designed. Once you're here, they want you to concentrate on the here and now. Ever notice how they don't sell newspapers anywhere on property? Or how they only recently started offering Internet access in the hotels?

I wouldn't want to drive a cheap truck, 4 wheeler or snowmobile out onto a lake with nothing between me and freezing water but a layer of ice. Now if I had some kind of a cool amphibious vehicle... maybe.
Like a Duck, perhaps?
duck-2.jpg

Because I know that only expensive things go through the ice. And forgive me for wanting to keep my children (and you) safe. If you went through the ice you would have died (either by the ice or me).
Honestly, I'm more scared of what you would do to me that the ice.

Someone has to be the voice of reason in the house.
Bah.

Then why do we keep meeting up with Tim at WDW? :confused3

You killed your battery from all the texts the first time.
Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer? :confused3

Hi Barry :wave2:, joining in from Tim's too because of that pic. It was hysterical! LOL, I love that your wife wants to use it to embarass him when he gets older. Thanks and :welcome:

I think my favorite was the bubble gum, but honestly you can't go wrong with any of them!

BTW, your family is adorable. :) Now I'm off to read your two previous TR's.
Thanks! I hope they don't disappoint you!

Barry, I'll say one thing about you -- you sure are a heck of a lot faster at posting updates than Tim, Marv, Glen, Dan, Mark, etc. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I love the monorail ride pictures; it is so neat to see a "newbie" for the first time on the monorail pulling up to the resorts.

The pictures with the Mickey plate and the characters themselves are great--even the ones with the oreo cookie moustache. ;)

We've not done CM's for dinner since 2004 and we had a pretty crummy meal. But we do enjoy going for breakfast. Gee, that may have to go on my list for 2012 since 2011 ADR's are almost picked. :confused3

But any friend of Tim and Mark's, etc., can't be all that bad. Wait, maybe I should have said all that "good?"

No, not at all. It's a lot like being "mostly dead" in the Princess Bride. Barry's only Mostly Bad, which means he's Slightly Good. :thumbsup2

Of course they can't hold a candle to the classic Green & Gold, but they're better that some throwbacks. Tampa's cream sickles, anyone?

Good point. I think I'd like them better if they got rid of the circle on the front and got helmets that...oh, I don't know... matched?

Naturally, the best throwbacks (and I'm not biased at all :rolleyes1) belong to the Eagles, with the classic Kelly green:

050310-Kelly-green-0031.jpg

As we all know, Philly teams would never, ever, ever put something out there that could be considered an eyesore.

Tim's not my friend. He's my nemesis.
And Mark just lets me hang around and bask in his awesomeness.

(did you see that - I even typed that sentence with a straight face! Of course, I was biting the inside of my cheek the entire time...:lmao:)

I hope you didn't hurt yourself. I tried basking in my own awesomeness once, but then Mrs. Knowitall told me to get off of my butt and take out the garbage. :confused3
