Lazy Boy furniture- good quality?

I am starting to look for family room furniture and I need something that will hold up for family. We have an 8 year old and 4 teens. I haven't decided on leather or material yet for our couches, but I was wondering if people have good or bad luck with the Lazy Boy brand? I am also going to look at the JC Penney home store. I need a couch, a couple of chairs, and probably a couple of tables.

We have a LaZBoy sofa, love seat and ottoman. They are all just over 5 years old and are not the highest grade material but the 2nd to highest grade. I believe the pattern is Montana. They are holding up great and look brand new. We have a cat, a son and my husband is horribly rough on furniture. We paid as much for these as we did for a set from Havertys. The Havertys set fell completely apart in 2 years and had to be slip covered (same level grade of fabric). We did buy the protection plan with the LaZBoy since our son was an infant and still spit up but so far we haven't used it at all. I highly recommend their fabric seating.

Along with the matching chair. It is great. You can wipe off the leather when people are sick with the flu. Or you just get something on it. It has a metal frame that I like.

I have an 9 year old and a small dog that are jumping running etc. Never had a problem yet.

We like oversized furniture because we are tall .
Warranties are also very good.

I'm thinking the same thing.... we bought sofas less than 3 years ago,paid too much, poor quality. I'd like to find a brand that holds up to everyday life!

We love our Lazy Boy furniture. We are on our 2nd set. The first was about 9 years old, it was still functional, but we bought a new house and just wanted something new. I will probably purchase Lazy Boy again, when the time comes. People laugh at me when I tell them how I fall asleep in the recliner all the time, then they come over get comfy, the next thing I know is that they are getting up because they are afraid they will fall asleep.

I have seen my sister spend a ton of money on 2 cheaper sofas. They really didn't hold and she had no kids at the time.

My parents just got a new sofa(cheaper) and it's not holding well either. Seat cushions are already sinking.

We have a Lazy Boy sectional that is about 7-8 years old, and it still looks like new to me. We have two boys who loved to run and jump on it against my wishes, and it help up well. When we bought the sectional we had also purchased the warranty, which was about 11 years ago. It might have been a 3 year warranty. Within that warranty period a bracket for the recliner had broken. I used that seat and recliner everyday. It couldn't be fixed, and they didn't make that same fabric anymore to replace just that secion, so they replaced the whole sofa.

A few months ago we had wanted to get a new sofa, as the sectional wasn't working for us in that room anymore. We were looking at getting a sofa, love seat, and recliner. We looked at a store that had a great sale going on, and then ended up going to the Lazy Boy store too. It was then I realized that the sale store also had much lower quality furniture, but at half the price! Since our sectional still looked like new, we opted to pay the price and get the Lazy Boy Maverick. We knew their stuff held up well. Who knew a recliner could do so much! Another selling point is that the frame has a lifetime warranty. We also purchased an extra option where they spray the entire sofa to protect it from any spills, and it's covered for pretty much anything, bodily fluids, pet fluids... I'm not at home right now so I can't check the details on it.

I haven't had experience with La-z-boy, but wanted to mention that I LOVE our Lane reclining sectional. They have a ton of choices for style and fabric and it's great quality. My parents have a fabric covered sectional for over 10 years and it still looks and feels great. We just bought the Touchdown one and it's so comfortable! I like that we can use it as a sectional or individual couch and loveseat if we desire.

I would never buy La-Z-Boy furniture again. We bought a set a few years ago and spent quite a bit of money on it. It was the biggest piece of junk we ever bought. The material shredded, the cushions were flat after 6 months, the legs on the bottom kept turning and one piece was a sleeper with their best mattress and the mattress was like a nap mat at preschool. Their customer service is horrible. I too thought they would be a reputable brand but they are not. Do a google search and you will see all the complaints. I wish I did. We were not rough on our set at all. It was simply junk.

If you are going to buy leather I highly reccomend Bari Leather in Florida. We bought a set from them and the quality is amazing. I bought it online without even seeing it in person. I was a little nervous about doing that but it was the best decision ever. They have excellent customer service as well. Good luck with your decision!

We bought a new living room set from Lazy Boy in the spring of 2007. It was a VERY poor decision. We got coffee table, entertainment center, end tables, sofa, chair, and ottoman. The sofa, chair and ottoman are leather, but not the kind that is stained all the way through.

4 years later, the set looks worse than what we'd replaced. The padding is squished, the leather is scarred, and the veneer from the entertainment center chips if we even look at it cross-eyed.

I will never buy Lazy Boy again. I'm very disappointed.

It used to be of exceptional quality. I have an old LB recliner in our spare room and I LOVE it. It is probably 20-30 years old and a horrible orange color. At some point I want to have it re covered, but it is of far better quality than the recliner we bought five years ago.

We have had the same experience with our Lazy Boy sectional!! It has not held up well at all and the cushions were flat and seams started coming undone in less than 2 years. And what is with the legs turning?? Mine have never been straight. We definitely won't buy another Lazy Boy again!! I thought we were spending all that money on furniture that would last.

I bought a Lazy Boy sleeper sofa 2 years ago. Never again!!!!I paid $1200 for it and less than a year later it was all coming unsewed and the stuffing was falling out. They agreed to fix it and within a month we had the same problem. This time they said too bad. I had an upholsterer out who quoted me 400 to fix the back again. There are only two of us here and we both work and are hardly here to sit on it.It is the worst piece of furniture I have ever owned and I would never recomend Lazy Boy to anyone.

I think Lay-Z-Boy is like everything else, if you go into the store and buy a $400 chair, you are not going to get the same quailty as an $800 chair. That being said, my chair is about 8 years hold and has held up very well. It was a present from DW for Father's Day (however she's always sitting in it ) Anyway, I believe she got a good deal on it since it has the built-in massagers.

One word of advice, if you want to get more than one piece of furniture (i.e. sofa and love seat) buy them together. Lay-Z-Boy retires patterns, and although you may be able to get the matching pattern down the road, the furniture will probably have to be custom made at twice the price.

Same issue here, spent $2000 on a sofa (non sleeper) and chair & the fabric literally shredded by the end of the first year. They would not cover any repairs or anything, saying it was "normal wear and tear". Horrible quality with an extremely high cost.

I have had only good experiences with LaZboy, and would not hesitate to buy from them again. I have a black, leather, double recliner sofa that was purchased 15 years ago. It's just my DH and me and 4 cats. But it gets used daily and still looks great. I did have to call for service when the "driver's side" recliner broke after 2 years. Parts were still under warranty, but not labor. It took him about 15 minutes to replace the part and only charged us $25. I also have a rocker recliner chair by Lane that we bought at the same time. It has not faired as well as the LaZboy sofa even though the sofa gets heavier use. It shows every little claw mark from out cats.

When we bought our house, we needed living room furniture. After weeks of looking, we ended up getting a sofa and loveseat from LaZboy. They still look brand new 10 years later. I must admit that my DH and I don't use this furniture as much, but our cats do.

That is so true! Everybody that comes over to my house and sits on our living room set tells me how comfortable it is. 2 of my brothers have fallen asleep on them during get togethers.

I am a definite cheerleader for "the Boyz" Our sectional sofa is over 15 years old and the only work we had done was to replace a back section--lifetime guarantee and our local furniture store did it free because I buy all the Boyz from them. All of our "chair and a half" larger version recliners range from 20 to 5 years old and the oldest one is still in use--at DS's apartmentI am noticing a bit of wear in the weave of our sofa, but nothing major. I can't say enough that this is one category "you get what you pay for" and the Boyz will give you all you can ask for as far as value! DS and DD will also be buying Boyz when they set up households....maybe I can talk them into the ones I have so I can get all new

We had a Lazy Boy couch and love seat that reclined about 15 years ago and pieces started falling out of it as soon as we got it. In hindsight I should have returned it. The set was trashed in just a few years and we were not hard on it. I felt both the mechanics and material were poor quality for a very high price. We paid a small fortune for it. I talked to a lady who sells furniture and she told me Englander and broyhill are the top of the line brands and last longer than others according to her. HTH

I forgot to add that when we had problems with the mechanism for the recliner we called the furniture company who said they would only fix it in the first year and to call Lazy Boy for warranty repair. Lazy Boy would fix it but first we would have to find a shipper and pay to ship it to them.

We have two. I'm very happy with my lazyboys. The leather still looks fabulous (we do condition it two or three times a year), both couches have two recliner sections and all are still in working order after 5 years, no sagging cushions. They are in great shape.
My mother bought a fabric lazyboy at the same time we bought ours and the fabric on the footrest wore out very quickly. Lazyboy replaced it, but she had to get short with them about it - they wanted to call it normal wear and tear (in less than six months with no animals or kids?). So maybe avoid the fabric and stick with leather? It seems to have more staying power.

I have a Lazyboy sofa and love-seat aswell as two end tables that were all bought at the same time almost 10 years ago. My sofa & love-seat has help up great, especially since my three kids abuse them daily. I have had problems with the legs on them turning though.

My end tables are a different story. I paid way to much for them and they are a piece of crap. The legs wobble, the finish was so thin that it has worn off in a few spots. It's just not the quality that I thought they would be.
