Re-use dated cruise Magnets?

I haven't decorated my door yet but am wondering for those that put specific dates on your cruise magnets, do you put them on your door on future cruises or make new ones? I'm might do some generic ones and do some dated ones for the memory!

Also, is there a site with generic images that I can personalize myself? I see lots of finished personalized images. Thanks!

Generic is a great idea! to reuse! I have only made them once, but it was our very first cruise ever, so mine says OUR FIRST CRUISE, so I suppose i cant use them this time......

not sure where I got my images from though, it was back in 2005.

generic signs are more likely to grow legs and wander away. People still take the personalized ones but not as much I think.

We are doing them with names and such, but not too many dated ones, so that we can reuse in the future if we want to.

On every cruise I bring one dated magnet from each previous cruise. If you go to the DiSigns board, many designers have photobucket or 4Shared accounts that have blank designs. Feel free to browse through and download any blanks and customize them yourself if you want.

I know myself and some other designers won't post generic or blank designs because of improper use so you might be limited to what you find. But if you visit the magnet thread i will gladly personalize whatever you need.

Jordak did AMAZING license plates for our last cruise...I thought it would be fun to print out new 'stickers' to put on them like you do on your own automobile!! So instead of MAY 2010..I'll print out stickers that now say MAR 2011 We'll just keep using those as long as they'll hold out!

Thanks everyone for the responses. We are going in a group of 3 families. Two of us have cruised DCL before and one is new to DCL. I want to surprise them with some personalized signs. I'll check out the sites you've shared and offers for help...awesome!

Jordak made some AWESOME magnets for us as well, and on really short notice too. My parents and kids were thrilled with our doors. We will be able to use just about all of our magnets again and again. I did make some "Mickey Heads" on my own in different colors as well to fill in. There was a toddler in the room who was fascinated with our magnets and so I gave her two of our Mickey Heads for her door.

DH and I will be sailing on the Magic 3/19 for our 20th Anniversary, so I'll be getting another set of magnets for that as soon as I figure out what we want on them!

Someone took a minnie mouse magnet off of one of our doors on our last cruise. My daughter walked up and down the hall looking for it. Someone had actually put it on their door. She took it back and left a note.

Here's a tip that I found here on the boards years ago...Using a Sharpie write on the back of each magnet, "Stolen from cabin #8113." Or whatever cabin you are staying in... From what I have heard...the magnets sometimes make their way onto other cabin doors...and with the original cabin number on them...they can be returned. Anyhow...just a thought...I have some magnets that are going on their third cabin number! I just keep crossing out the old one...and writing the new one! And yes, we do reuse some of our favorite magnets that have dates!

It was just a suggestion, not a remedy in all cases. The hope is that if someone took your magnets and replaced them somewhere else...that they would be returned. I also think that if a parent found that one of their children took a magnet...the words "Stolen" would make the case. I know that my kid would be in trouble if I found one of those! And the magnet could be returned. Again, it was only a tip...

I get it. I wasn't trying to be nasty. I was just pointing out that some still go "walking" even with names on them. Unfortunately, light-heartedness doesn't show up when you're posting.

Is there a charge for getting personalized graphics? I want to be considerate of the time of any designers offering to do this for free but I do want a few made up. I'm expecting that regardless of if this is free or pay that I am responsible for printing, laminating (do you recommend?) and applying the magnet strips or do some supply official magnets for a fee?

Personally, I think it will be fun to just get the graphics and do some of the work to making my onboard home personalized!
