Wondering which one we should do. Also, how big are the photos--what size photo mat would I need?

Are any of the pictures done in black and white?

How do the pillowcase signatures hold up?

Thanks!

Can't really answer your question, but thought you might like to know that you can use a shirt also! I bought a DCL shirt on our last cruise for our house/pet sitter as a thank you gift, and dropped it off at guest services to be signed and it turned out AWESOME!!!! I also took a pack of multi colored sharpies and dropped them off with it. It has held up really well, she wears it and washes it and it still looks great!:thumbsup2

3 years ago we had the characters sign a photo mat and they looked great. We did a Mat that woudl allow us to insert 4 pictures from the cruise. We did one for each of our 3 kids. We love them as it makes the whole framed picture look great. The kids got to pick their favourite 4 pictures of them from the cruise.

We've done the photo mats, pillowcases and t-shirts, and the Photomat definitely holds up and lasts the best. It depends on how lasting of a memory you want!

The signatures on our pillowcases haven't held up well at all and we even used fabric markers! The t-shirt signed in sharpies is hanging in there, but you could see where the characters had trouble signing it because of how the t-shirt material stretches. The photomats turned out awesome everytime we've done them, so that's been our preferred way to go.

I think you really need to get 100% cotton pillowcases and wash without any softener before having them sign it, most pillow cases have a special 'finish' on them in the factory and I think that's keeping the markers from holding their place...many colored ones bled on ours, our dear son woke up one night with an anchor on his cheek (after being washed)...(Donald signs with anchors)...

We did both, we'll do it again, just probably wash the pillows first and hope for a better outcome! :)

Do Sharpies work ok on the photo mats? That is what i bought, and I suddenly started wondering if they will bleed out/smear.

Sharpies are fine on the photo mats. That is what I took last month.

My kids love their pillowcases too. :) I had some made for them with their names on them and embroided with their favorite Disney character.

As a newbie I have a question....when do you drop off pillowcases/photomats at guest services? At the very beginning of the cruise and then pick them up at the end?

Thanks!

Drop them off at the beginning of the cruise (I usually do it the first night, after the crowds die down). Your stateroom host should put them in your room the last night. I had to remind our host on our last cruise that I had quite a few things at Guest Services, since we still hadn't received them when it was approaching time to put the luggage out.

Some things I'll drop off as the cruise progresses, including photos that I buy in shutters and want the character in the picture to autograph. I also bought a Vinylmation on my last cruise and immediately dropped it off at Guest Services to be autographed.

I actually bought a 12x12 sheet of card stock. I was going to have the characters sign it & I have a frame to put it in. so, no pictures, just signatures. I am trying to figure out what color markers I should use. I am thinking black, red, & blue. Any thoughts on my plans?

So the best thing to do is to put things you want to be signed in ziplock bag and write your stateroom number on it?

Yes, start with that and Guest Services actually has a form to fill out when you turn it in. Be sure to specify if you want 'just princesses' or 'the fab 5' signatures for example.

Also, a bag of M&M's (or the like) for the cast members as a Thank You is a nice gesture! :thumbsup2

Great thank you for advice...and MMs are great idea too!

I've had pillowcases signed on my last 3 cruises. The last two times I had another DISer wh is on eBay personalize them with my daughter's name and favorite character (she also does the fish extenders on here). They were so cute! I put them in a zip-loc bag with fabric markers and a bag of M&M's and dropped them off at guest services. You don't have to just pick one group of characters. I've chosen all of them for dd and also told them any others available and she got tons of autographs! :)

Is the character signing available on all cruises or just the 7 night?

All of them.

I had my photo mat done with as many signatures as they could get, and there are plenty of them. White mat and all the signatures in black. Inside is a parasailing at Castaway Cay photo of where I've nearly been 'reeled in' so it is mostly blue with the bright colors of the parachute in the center. Looks nice!

my wife is a huge scrapbooker....for our first disneyland visit she bought small disney scrapbooks (has the mickey ears on the front), we then took these on the cruise. Once ther pages were signed when we got home she added pictures (that was my job get pics of our girls with ALL the characters) and theyh turned out AWESOME!!!

cheers
:goofy:

I've done the photo mat. I put extra-fine sharpies that were sky blue, teal and green in the bag. The signatures in green and blues look so pretty surrounding a photo from castaway cay.

We've done both & of the two, I love the pillowcases more. I had one made (embroidered) for each of our girls, got them autographed & then had them framed when we returned home. So now they are hanging in each of their rooms as a wonderful souvenir from that particular cruise.

The matte are cute, but b/c I made sure to have them signed where the signature wouldn't be cut-off by an eventual frame, it was difficult. I read on-line to use painter's tape on the matte in order to prevent the signatures to fall into that framed area and it would be easy to get off, etc. It wasn't. & B/C of that, I had to get another matte cut to make a double-matte effect and that was a pain. So even though it turned out nice in the end, I don't know that I'd do it again.

As for the size of the pics, they are either 6x8 or 8x10 that you can purchase from Shutters on the ship.

HTHs!:thumbsup2

Here are pictures of their pillowcases.
