I just thought of a great idea for DCL

What they should do is this.

Since there are so many people who visit WDW from the north east, mostly, from NJ and NY, they should have a cruise that leaves port liberty in NJ, and it cruises to port canaveral, and then when you get off, you spend a few days at the parks....

i think that would be great.

My family would love it. I woner how disney would handle it. I assume in order to allow for the time at the parks Disney would have to make it two cruises, one north bound and the other south. I don't think it would work well unless they had two ships in that rotation.

They couldn't let passengers disembark in Port Canaveral. (See all the threads on Hawaii on why ships cannot transport people between 2 US cities.) So the ship's itinerary would have to be either just a single day port call (which isn't a new idea, DCL has been sending out surveys about this for over a year) or at longest an overnight. If it was overnight, it would be a pretty boring itinerary of 2 days in Port Canaveral and one day in Castaway Cay.

hmmm; wonder why they can't travel between two US cities... I know it's the law- not their choosing.... But I agree it would be a good idea and could alternate northbound and southbound... I live in the south and could do the north bound ending with a visit to NY!

The Passenger Services Vessel Act does not allow foreign flagged ships to depart from one U.S. port and disembark passengers in another (letting them off for a few days would be in violation of this).

Not that I am disagreeing with you on this but what about the Panama Canal cruises? I guess it would have to be booked as two separate cruises if you wanted a return voyage.

I know there are cruise lines that go to the bahamas, that pick you up from NJ, and then to miami or port everglades, and then they go to the bamamahs the day after.

actually they would only need one ship.

the ship picks up from nj...drops off in FL. then the people who were on the last cruise going home, they board after the ones going to disney get off, and then it just keeps going

The Passenger Services Vessel Act states that ships can 1) pick up passengers at a U.S. port and return them to the same was as long as the stop at a foreign port during the voyage. They may also pick up passgners at a U.S. port and disembark them at another U.S. port providing it calls at a port deemed distant by the government.

Letting passengers off for several days would be prohibited because it could be viewed as letting passengers off "permanently".

I live about 10 minutes from the Baltimore port. While DCL setting up there sounds appealing convenience-wise, I honestly don't think I'll sail in this part of the Atlantic ever again. The two times I sailed from Baltimore were windy, chilly and very rough the whole way...

Yeah, no offense, but crusing down the east coast isn't exactly a big tourist draw and just using the ship as a bus seems a waste.

Now, during the summer heading north from Balitmore to Halifax, Newfoundland, and Greenland might be interesting.

most all cruise lines depart from NYC, NJ or Baltimore.

NYC to Bermuda to CC to PC would interest me and I live in Fla!
