To have Mickey/Minnie or not?

I'm looking for a little bit of feedback here. Ever since we started planning our VR, having Mickey (and possibly Minnie) come to the cake-cutting and take pictures with our group has been part of the plan.

As our plans have evolved, we are ending up with a morning Epcot ceremony and then a dinner there in the evening during Illuminations. Our planner has said that characters cannot come out in Epcot 'til after every day guest has left the park, and that's often not 'til 11 p.m.! So if we want to have character(s), we'd have to do it at the breakfast we're planning for after the ceremony.

Originally we thought we'd just have a group breakfast at a resort restaurant (not through DFTW), but when we realized that would be our only chance to have a character, we thought we should do a private catered space and have the cake after breakfast rather than at dinner.

Of course, by doing something private and catered, the cost over a regular restaurant meal increases substantially. So now I'm thinking it's irresponsible to spend so much money really unnecessarily, just to have a character come to the cake-cutting (we're not doing dancing or anything else that's really reception-ish ... just meals basically for breakfast and dinner).

I'd appreciate knowing what others would do in this situation. :flower3:

I had brunch at The Attic, which was far less expensive then I thought it would be, and had the cake cutting and Minnie and Mickey there!

Yes, if you can stick to the $1,000 AM minimum at the Attic and it won't break you, that would be a good way to go. There's also a $1,000 minimum at Ariel's at the Beach Club, which is even closer.

Otherwise, could you all walk to Beach Club's Cape May Cafe for their character breakfast? Or take a Friendship Boat over to the Swan and eat at the character breakfast they have at Garden Grove?

The Attic & Ariel's are both good suggestions ... thanks both of you! We were considering Ariel's, but I'm weird about the seating ... we have 20-21 people and I wanted everyone to sit together because the 8-10 tops would be awkward with the smaller family groups we're having (I know that sounds strange, but our group is a bunch of families and their extended families and it would divide up strangely as far as making everyone comfortable). I saw a photo of a roman table at Ariel's and it looked pretty cramped between the columns.

The idea of smaller tables at the Attic is appealing to me...they're close together and the smaller tables would work better. I don't think there are enough tables inside or outside on the balcony for the group ... we'd have to use both spaces, wouldn't we?

Our planner suggested Narcoossee's ... the minimum is higher, but the cake would count towards it there, where it doesn't at a non-GF location. But our consultant said tables could not be moved in any way, so I don't know how our group would be seated in there. We've asked our planner about it, and are waiting to hear back.

I'm just sort of sick of thinking about it and trying to make it work, so that's why I was thinking of cutting the mouse and just picking a resort restaurant. I'm so muddled! :headache:

Okay, I just went through both of your PJs and found more pictures of the Attic. It looks like there is enough seating on the balcony/deck area for our entire group should they want to sit outside, so I'm thinking that might be the solution!

But if you're still reading ... I have an all-important question that my mother and mil will ask ... where are the bathrooms for the Attic? :rotfl:

There is a huge bathroom right in The Attic!! I fit in there no problem in my huge dress if that gives you any indication of size! :rotfl:

I had 18 people in total including myself and Adrian and we all sat inside - there is plenty of room on the patio for comfortable seating as well...it was the absolute perfect size for us and we loved the venue - it needed basically no decor at all!! We also got great pics with Mickey and Minnie out on the deck with a great view of the Boardwalk in the background!

Any other questions, just ask!

Awesome! I think the Attic might be the perfect solution for us! :thumbsup2

I do have another question for you ... I was showing dh pictures from your trip report, and we both loved the color fondant on your cake ... it actually looks like the ribbon I'm using, and I was wondering if you knew what they called that color if we wanted to request it for the background fondant on our cake? :)

I just told them that I wanted teal, pink, orange, and yellow - all brights, no pastels. Feel free to just point them in the direction of my pictures to copy the color...I loved it - it turned out great!

Thank you so much!! :goodvibes

Sounds like you're leaning toward the Attic—great choice! :thumbsup2 Somewhere in my planning journal is the seating chart for the Attic—you can fit 4 people at each of the five tables on the patio. Inside there are 4 tables for 4, but then you'll also have the sweetheart table, plus all the couches.

And if you need any photos of the bathroom, just let me know... :rotfl:

Actually—you can find a lot more pix of the Attic in my anniversary trip report. Our anniversary event planner gave us a surprise brunch there, and this time I was sure to have DH take tons and tons of photos!

Carrie, you rock! I just went and looked at the photos ... I know my mom will give a :thumbsup2 to the ladies' room, LOL! And what a nice surprise to have a special private brunch all set up for you there -- how lovely! :goodvibes

Dh and I are psyched about the Attic -- so glad you and Kelly suggested it. Now we just have to call our planner and hope it's available for our date. Cross your fingers!
