Bikes -- Are they allowed around the resorts?

We are driving down to WDW this coming weekend. We'll be staying 2 nights at SSR, moving to OKW for 4 nights and then 1 night at HHI.

We were thinking of taking our bikes. Can we ride bikes around the resorts? Are there trails? Do they frown upon people bringing their own bikes?

We are going to Epcot one day and that's it. The rest of the time, we will be just hanging out and enjoying the resorts.

Thanks for the help!

Happy New Year!!!

Lot of folks ride bikes @ HH. Some rent (very resonable if you rent for the week). Others bring their own. The whole area is very bike friendly. There is a bike trail that goes all the way to beach house.
Last time I was at OLW people were pedaling around. No designated bike trails, but roads are wide enough that biking around is not an issue. I would image same is true with SSR.

Thanks for the quick reply.

The bikes at HHI will be great. I know people rent there, so we should have a great time.

I just wasn't sure about bringing them to SSR & OKW. Other than trying not to get in the way of the buses, we were hoping there were areas that we could ride away from traffic. Plus, we wanted to make sure that it was o.k. to ride around the resorts.

Hello: OKW and SSR are very bike friendly. I think you will not have any problem with the buses, they are very courteous. A good ride is SSR on trails to OKW, road to Port Orleans(very short) all around the resort, road to Fort wilderness all around the resort, then trail to wilderness lodge. It's a great ride. Tom

Thanks for the information! Glad to hear there are trails we can take around SSR & OKW. Looks like the bikes are going with us!

I think there are trails over at Fort Wilderness too that we may check out.

There is a nice walking/bike path from SSR to OKW.

You can pick it up behind the lobby at SSR, take the wooden bridge across the stream and stay right. It is by the putting green.

Nice little ride. 2 miles up to the hospitality house at OKW

I would certainly caution AGAINST riding a bike on the regular roads around WDW. The short stretch from OKW to PO might be okay, but I wouldn't push my luck beyond that.

The problem would not be the buses -- they know where they are going, and are paying attention.

The problem would be the normal park/resort guests who are driving from one unknown point to another unknown point on an unknown roadway with unfamiliar signage, and who are primarily involved with an ongoing discussion of their ADR's for the week and texting other members of their party and Grandma in Boise, rather than driving.

You have to be somewhat on your toes to drive at WDW, and you'd have to be suicidal to bike. Also, I'm not sure, but I think bicycles are prohibited on the limited-access roads at WDW.

I don't think bikes are permitted at DTD. So you would be able to ride between OKW and SSR, but not to DTD.

Too much chaos on the roads for us to be safe. My kids are 6 & 9, so no way would I ever put them on the roads. Heck, I'm not comfortable riding a bike on the roads!! I stay on trails here at home.

I think the ride from SSR to OKW (and vice versa) will be just our speed. Can't wait to explore there. I think we'll take the bikes (on the rack) over to Fort Wilderness and check out their trails too.

Thank you everyone for such great information!

Within the resorts, it would be okay.

I would NOT ride around WDW resort. It isn't set up for pedestrians and with 2 visitors struck and killed this past year, I would think that security would be more vigilant about that.

And for Disney's purposes--you would be considered a pedestrian. They are not biker friendly except during their triathlon and only during the triathlon.

We took our bikes to BLT last march. There are no bike racks at BLT or the Contemporary. none. We ended up leaving the bikes locked to the bike rack on the back of our car. After asking around some, we decided that our best choice to enjoy any kind of biking near there was to ride our car over to fort wilderness and then take the bikes off there and ride around. There are all kinds of trails back there including this one great one that goes from ft wilderness to the wilderness lodge. Dont expect to ride any bikes around the contemporary. Apparently the future is now theme there doesnt include any biking.

I don't think there are bike racks anywhere other than where they rent out bikes. And you can't use those racks.

You'll need to keep them locked to your vehicle or in your villa.

On the ride from SSR to DTD, there is a bike rack over near the bus depot.

Near the High Rock Springs pool? That would be for the rental bikes.

No

Going from SSR to DTD.
From CP area take the walkway along the lake, leave SSR property and next to the street, cross over the bridge for the creek that runs under the walkway, and before you get to the bus station there is a bike stand. I have used it to lock up my bike while walking around DTD.

bar none the best place to take a bike to disney is ft wilderness. We spent a week there this past december and rode every where around on our bikes. There is a great biking path all around the resort/woods. There is also a good bike path that runs from ft wilderness to wilderness lodge. We rode over to the lodge and pool hopped. There is an area near up the ramp from the villas to the main building where you can lock up your bike.

There is a bike parking area on the trail from SSR to DTD. It is on the SSR side of the bridge to DTD and I have seen bikes tied up there many times.

So you park your bike before you get to DTD.
