Charging a camera

I know that there is a charge for internet access on board, but is there a charge for using a USB port? My camera charges via a USB port and only has a one hour charge.

I don't know the answer to your question for sure but there are often computers that are not being used and are powered up so technically you could sit there for an hour not doing anything with your camera plugged in and you wouldn't be charged.

You could also bring a laptop to charge it with or you can get a cheap adapter that will change a regular wall outlet into a USB plug (the iphone's wall adapter is like this)

My kodak playsport came with one, I know they are around ten bucks at Walmart and the like.....

Quick google search and this is one I came up with. It can be an apple branded charger adapter, or Belkin makes one.....

If I remember correctly (I only used them once) you can't actually get to the computers on the ship. All you have access to are the peripherals (screen, mouse, keyboard). The computers themselves are hidden.

You really need to get a USB wall adapter.

I imagine if you were really in a bind, you could go to Shutters, and they might be able to plug it into their computers for you, but what a hassle that would be!

As mentioned above you can't hook up any external devices to the computers at the internet cafe onboard. You will need a separate USB charger for charging the camera in your cabin. I would also suggest a small power strip. We bring a small power strip as we have ipods, cameras, blow dryer plugged in at various times.

I would also suggest getting a spare battery for your camera so you will always have one handy. Too many times I have been ready to get a great shot only to have my battery die.....if I had a spare one I could get right back in action but without a spare you would have to wait for the one battery to charge to use the camera at all...many wasted photo ops!!

We brought along a travel size power strip that has about 4 normal outlets and 1 or 2 usb ports. It was only about $10 or $15 and allowed us to charge everything that we needed plugged in at night.

It's a 3 outlet surge protector with two usb charging sockets. In addition, the plug head rotates so that you can position it vertically or horizontally. I used it on my last Disney cruise and it worked out great, plus you have the safety of it being surge protector.

I have one of these, too, and I love it. Works wonderfully, and quite handy. I would just caution that the USB ports aren't that powerful, and may not be sufficient to charge certain electronics that require a powerful charge (like an iPad or some cameras). You'd want to test whatever you're planning to charge with it *before* going on your trip, so you would know if you need an additional adapter or not (ie, one that plugs into the outlet part rather than the USB plug).
