Vegan/Vegetarian Restaurant/Dining Help Thread

Have any vegans eaten breakfast at Roaring Forks in the Wilderness Lodge? My husband and I will be there in October and I have 3 breakfasts planned using our QS credits. I looked at the menu on allears and see nothing I can eat. They have pancakes, I wonder if they can make a vegan version of pancakes or waffles? Also, does anyone know if their breakfast potatoes are vegan?
I had breakfast there just a few weeks ago and the chef made me a plate of vegan waffles on-the-fly (there were no special dining requests on the ADR as I hadn't made the reservation there).

great - thank you!

If I can just get waffles/potatoes or fruit for breakfast every morning, I'll be good!

For Roaring forks: The waffles are Van's waffles. If you go in advance of your breakfast they can plan more for you.

Regarding LeCellier: I am not %100 vegan but I do not eat the following out:
Dairy, Gluten, Meat, Fish and Pork. Le Cellier gave me a great dish for lunch with Coconut milk.

One last post: Regarding Captain cooks. They can custom make you tofu and noodles and veggies. Just go up to the cashier/manager and ask them for the chef.

Someone was asking about eating at the resorts. Both times we ate at Olivia's (once for dinner and once for lunch), we didn't have reservations. The first time I mentioned my request at the check-in desk, and the chef came out to talk with me. My meal was amazingly delish! When we had lunch there, I wanted the same dish as I had the first time and relied on our server to relay the request to the kitchen. It was an absolute disaster and I figured it was my own darn fault so I just dealt with it. The moral of my story: make sure you speak with the chef!

Hey everyone! Michael [plasticletters] and I recently moved to San Diego so we haven't been able to really check this site out.

How is everyone's vegan experience(s) at Disneyland? We plan on going in just a couple weeks since we are now so close to it! We used to mainly do research on Disney World because it was closer to us and seemed to be the one we'd go to more frequently and such. Now since we are so close to Disneyland, we can't wait to get going and see what the park has to offer!

We've set a date on our trip! We were debating between DLR (shorter flights, familiar, close to friends and family) and WDW (more stuff, more "vacationy", father from friends/family (a plus! :rolleyes1) and opted for WDW in June, right after school is out (with everyone else). :D

Trying to figure out what is best for us (me, dh, ds8 and dd5, whoops, by then they'll be ds9 and dd6!) as far as resorts (aiming towards POFQ, though dh's boss threw a wrench in by talking up his great stay at a condo outside the world).

I'm thankful for all the vegan reviews! I've been taking notes on restaurants and snacks. All four of us are vegan. :)

I've stayed at POFQ three times and love it - because it's small, you never have to walk too far, and it's a very pretty resort.

You shouldn't have too much trouble finding great vegan meals and snacks. On my last trip I noticed that they had many of the vegan "Divvies" snacks (caramel corn, cookies) at various counter-service places. And I've seen a blog that said they have Babycakes at Downtown Disney now (in the restaurant that replaced Macdonalds) - vegan cupcakes and other treats!

We're heading back at the end of February, and planning meals at Sanaa, Tusker House, and Le Cellier (so far)...

Just so you know, they are currently renovating the rooms at POFQ! It will all be done by your trip in June. This includes the addition of queen sized beds. Just thought you would like to know to help you with your decision.

Good morning, all! I'm glad to have found this thread! My daughter and I are both vegetarian, and we usually don't have much trouble finding something to eat at WDW. In fact, we ate very well on our September trip, other than my accidentally eating a piece of meat that was in a salad at Crystal Palace (note to self: ALWAYS ask...). Anyway, we're going back in a week, and I've emailed WDW about a couple restaurants that are questionable for us, but I thought I'd check in here and see if anyone has any tips on "off menu" vegetarian meals.

We will be eating at Coral Reef for the first time. My daughter doesn’t eat mushrooms or beets, and meals containing these items seem to be her only choices. Is there something else available for her?

We have a reservation at Whispering Canyon Café. I assume the Chicken Vegetable Penne Pasta could be made without chicken, but are there any other choices?

We also have reservations for ‘50s Prime Time Café, and I'm not sure she'll eat the Artichoke and Ricotta Agnolotti-- anyone had something different there?

Thanks!

This is good advice, and perhaps it may be useful to always ask twice. We've been enjoying what we thought was a new vegetarian option at On The Border for a few weeks... the Hatch Chile Queso Fundito. When it was introduced, we asked our server about it, and the server indicated all we needed to is ask for the lime-cilantro rice (the rice that comes with it is cooked in chicken broth) and the black beans (the refried beans have pork in them). We were ordered it yesterday, and mentioned to this server about the rice and beans substitutions we need because we're vegetarians, and he told us that the fundito is made with beef stock. :(

I have found that some of my very best meals at WDW have been when we talked to the chef, told him or her about our dietary restrictions and preferences (we are vegan, and have some other restrictions as well), and said "please just make us something interesting!" We've had some absolutely incredibly good meals as a result. In fact, this is one of the things that keeps us coming back to WDW.

We are vegans and ate at Coral Reef in October. The chef came out and talked to us about the options. We had a delicious pasta, veggie and bean entree. I was very impressed with the chef as he was worried about making sure we had protein with our meal-- that is why he added the beans to the pasta dish. It was delicious and they were very accommodating. I would just have them note on your reservation that you are vegetarian and then tell your waiter that your daughter does not like mushrooms and beets. Your waiter will either tell you what the other options are or go get the chef. We have always great meals and the chefs are very willing to accommodate our requests.

When we ate at WCC this spring, we were able to order the all-you-can-eat skillet without the meat. They gave us extra salad, lots of corn on the cob and then did a stirfry of veggies too. Delish!

Of course, we were on DDP, so we didn't object to being charged the meat price for a vegetarian version.

Granted, I never asked about having something special made, but POFQ seemed to have an underwhelming amount of veggie options. While I'm sure there were vegan snacks, fruits, etc., the menu at lunch didn't indicate any veggie options while I was there. I'm not sure if they have the same options every day, or if it's in some kind of rotation, but I was very surprised. If I had asked, chances are they probably had a veggie burger in back or could have made a salad, but I didn't bother. Personally I didn't mind too much, since we eat most of our meals in the parks or at TS at other resorts, but it would have been nice to have had some options for the days that we checked in/out.

If you're a family that eats a lot of meals at the resort, I would suggest looking elsewhere. However, I will say that POFQ is a beautiful, cozy, and quiet resort. I liked it so much that I would definitely stay again, even with the lack of options.

I'm glad for this thread, being a veggie and just having returned from WDW I ate very well, but I am going to really try and go vegan January 1st and will planning our next trip as well. So thanks for this wonderful thread.

That's great to know-- thank you!
