1) In our opinion, there are very few "romantic" eateries at WDW.
. . . too much noise
. . . too many kids
. . . too many adults who don't know how to act at finer eateries
2) I would recommend
. . . Shula's
. . . Il Mulino's
. . . V&A
. . . Grand Floridian Afternoon Tea

I tend to agree. We ate at both Kona and The Wave and neither were romantic. But the food at The Wave was fabulous so I picked it.

OK, I understand these aren't the most "romantic" places. But my DH and I are on a tight budget this trip, so Signature Dining is out. We've been wanting to try the Wave and Kona, so I thought I would get people's opinions on which one we should eat at for Valentine's Day. We would like to watch Wishes after dinner, which is just enough romance for me. I know I can see Wishes from the Poly beach, but I think I can see them from the Contemporary too, correct?

I was looking at the list of casual dining restaurents. I would pick the following based on atmosphere and quality of food;

Captn' Jacks at DTD - on the water, lights at night are nice, great food. Have the crab cakes, uber yummy!

Coral Reef at Epcot - when you book, ask for a seat next to the tank "cause it's a special occassion" (pick Anniversary, Birthday or Valentines Day)
My husband surprised me one year on my birthday - a diver came up to the window and pressed a 'Happy Birthday Vikki' sign up against the glass, very cool! Didn't cost a dime.

Happy restaurent hunting!

Well, these would work if my DH wasn't allergic to shellfish. This limits our choices, plus we won't be going into the parks, so we need resort or DTD restaurants. Of the choices, Kona and the Wave are the two we really want to try. I would just like to know which would be a better choice for Valentine's Day. Thanks for your suggestions though.

While the food at Kona is delicious, the ambience is not quiet, secluded, or romantic. I have not been to the Wave, but it might be nice. I would suggest the Grand Floridian Cafe. It seems to be underrated, and might provide an upscale, yet quiet option. The Grand Floridian is lovely, and you can find places to watch Wishes here, or you can ride the monorail to the Poly for viewing there as well.

Gotcha! You can see Wishes from the Contemporary. There is an observation deck on the 4th floor. The Wave was truly fabulous when we were there. The atmosphere is a bit more upscale and adult, IMO, than Kona and the food was far superior. So I think that The Wave would be a great choice.

For a Valentine's Day meal? Neither.

They're both noisy, and, in the case of the Wave, the ambiance is very sterile and unimpressive. If I had to pick a place for a Valentine's Day dinner, I'd probably go with bluezoo. It's romantically lit, relatively intimate, has a great bar with a fantastic wine selection, and you can even get a window seat with views of Illuminations, if you plan it right.

1) OK, so now we have our ground rules.
2) No problem.
3) Pick Grand Floridian Café.
. . . quiet
. . . serene
. . . reasonably priced
. . . bright atmosphere
. . . overlooks GF paddock and pools
. . . available through monorail ride

We will be at the Wave on Valentine's Day with our two youngest sons. Why? It's also DH's Birthday and the Wave is the restaurant he chose for his birthday. We think the food is very good at the Wave! We have been there twice before and the last time in May our service was outstanding! I do not find the atmosphere to be unpleasant but very unique and fitting for the Contemporary Resort.

Kona is not romantic in any way! It is a zoo. We have dined there at least a dozen times over the years and I feel that for the most part the service and environment is akin to dining in Denny's or a coffee shop of some sort (the food is much better than Denny's, though).

You don't need to spend a lot of money to have a romantic evening. If you are worried about the romantic atmosphere of these places another thing you could consider is grabbing some sandwiches from Earl of Sandwich in downtown, a couple chocolate covered strawberrys, and a bottle of wine. All readily avalible in WDW. Then go grab a seat on the beach at the Poly and enjoy each others company and the fireworks.
