Disney's ALL-STAR SPORTS RESORT Information & Questions

I also like the compact feel of Sports.

I did not like how long of a walk it is at other resorts.

We just got back from a quick weekend stay at Sports. We liked it and the price was right. pop was not available so I have no comparison as it was our first time in Disney.

We requested Baseball, on the ground floor, facing Music (so I could be close to pools in Sports and Music). We got nothing of what we requested. We got tennis on the 3rd floor.

I was a bit bummed, but it didn't matter enough to make an issue of it. The walk was longish but OK. I didn't want to stay in Surf because I worried about the noise.

You can definitely hear all the plumbing everywhere. Our first night I got really annoyed because about 2am I heard about 30 doors slamming shut. A late night group must have got in. It was super annoying - but I guess it happens. Never heard noises for the rest of the weekend. (Maybe I slept better? DH never heard a thing the first night)

On our last day I did a walking tour of Sports and Music. I actually ended up preferring Sports theming - seemed more fun - particularly the fun stuff in between each building. Music had more trees. I checked out all 4 pools and the only pool that had piped in music was Music's Piano pool (the quiet one).

I LOVED that we were first on and first off for the buses. That made a huge difference. Lines for buses were always short but I saw longer lines at other places, particularly at Movies. I never had to stand in the bus but folks from other resorts often had to. We usually moved our kids to our laps when the buses got crowded.

I would stay in Sports again. Unless we try Pop out.

elainesj I am glad you enjoyed your stay.

I have stayed at POP and thought it was much more spread out and a more or a longish walk than at Sports but that is just my opinion.

Thanks for the review. :yay:

I agree. We also stayed at Music in Aug and I thought the walk was longer there then at Sports too. :goodvibes

Back a week from a week at Sports. Aside from the food court everything was enjoyable. In our encounters it seemed like they sent the worst castmembers to this food court. They all seemed miserable and uninterested to be there and the food they provided matched this. Well there was one good one that was cheery, helpfull and offered us to have a magical day. Hopefully her attitude rubs off.

As a side note, we also got caught up in a DDP desert problem on our last night there. We had previously seen the ice cream sandwich and noticed there was a special sign saying this is not a snack, but you can get it for desert. So on this night we thought we would get ice cream sandwiches with our meals. So we go to check out and the cashier says they aren't on the dinning plan. We say that they were the other day. Not anymore she says. So we ask what to do with them, and she says "I don't know, take them back?". So we take them back and there is a manger type behind the counter and they explain that Disney's fiscal year changed so it isn't a desert anymore. So off to the garbage the ice cream sandwiches go.

OMG that is crazy. I hadn't hard about the change in the desserts. What a waste to make you throw them out. We are going to POR in Dec, glad we know ahead of time that things have changed.

As you can see from my signature Sports is my favorite resort. Since I cannot hear well I have no flushing problems and rather enjoy hearing kids run around and having fun so it fits me perfectly. I am well known there so they take pretty good care of me most of the time. My only major complaint is that there are times when I get so many towel animals that we can barely get in the room. That is what happens when you stay 2 weeks or longer maybe.:rotfl:

monkeyhouse, I am sorry you were disappointed in not getting the ice cream sandwich. That is what comes of being a frequenter of the DIS boards and a frequent guest. Folks on a trip of a lifetime or had not been there in years would not notice the difference. I agree it is such a waste. I will have to look carefully and make sure that the purple and white DP logo is on the items I want and then hope that they are.

We are headed there shortly. Thank you all for the heads up.

We were at POP in January 2007 and at All-Star Sports in September 2009.
We are going back to Sports at the end of November. I wish we could have tried Music or Movies but they were not available.
Anyway, I'm sure we will have a good time.

peanuts017, usually Sports is one of the first to sell out, Music is usually the last. Maybe folks were scared off because of Pop Warner but they are not coming in until the second week of our trip and you will probably be long gone by then so all should be great.

I think you will like Sports, we do.

See you there!:goodvibes

Hey Linda, so glad you are relaxing and enjoying. Wish I could be there sharing the ice tea on the beach with you. Anything would be better than sleet and cold, right. lol Be safe. Miss you.

Miss Ang, it feels as though you ARE here. Just missing my 'shadow' though.

Tornado watches and floods back home from all reports. Hoping it is all just a false alarm. Our home will be fine but worry about the others.

Happy Turkey day to you all!

We are arriving the afternoon of Sunday the 12th for one night before we switch resorts. (We were just at Sports in late Sept. for MNSSHP and had a great time!)

Since that is the last official day for Pop Warner, will most of that crowd be cleared out by early that afternoon/evening, or are there usually a bunch of folks that stay on?

TIA :)

You will probably be fine. 2 Years ago we arrived on Sat at the end of PW. Sat was still busy, but Sunday was sooo quiet. :santa:

We stayed at the Sports when we went on a quickie 1-night trip last October. It was quiet, and the rooms were clean and of good size. I thought it was fantastic value. Personally I believe you just can't beat the convenience of an on-site resort. We stayed off site once... and that isn't going to happen again. (and it was only because it was another quickie trip and all of the value resorts were booked full) :headache:

I would not stay off-site because you would lose that Disney Magic.

I understand why people do stay off-site but it is not for me.

I grew up staying off site. Only once when I was younger did my parents opt to stay on property (25th anniversary) and unfortunately, CBR didn't sway them. FH and I stayed at ASMo for 3 nights last Nov. and loved it. Then in Jan 2010, FFIL asked us to run with him during the marathon weekend of 2011. I'll be running the 5k while FH and FFIL run the goofy challenge. I just found out today that FFIL booked us rooms at ASSp from 1/5 - 1/9/11. I can't wait to try out a new resort.

That is awesome.....good luck on the run. Let us know how it goes :cheer2:
