Okay, since the Geeks on a Plane trip has been canceled, I'm going to edit this first post and remove the double-PTR information, as this is now a single PTR. Anything in purple was related to the Geeks on a Plane trip. The red posts are the Handbasket trip :)

I'm Dana, I'm 26, and I'm a former WDW CM. I'm basically a walking map of MK :lmao: I live in Chicago at the moment and plan to move back to Orlando within a few years, but if that doesn't happen, that's okay, too. Life can change in so many ways in just a couple of years. I'm a night shift nurse's aide at an assisted living facility, so I have some rather odd posting times. I hope to move to days in the beginning of the new year, but that will depend on if there's a position available. I hope there will be, as I'm getting tired of nights. (I moved to days around Thanksgiving, actually.)

My favorite characters are Eeyore and Stitch, and my favorite ride at WDW is Haunted Mansion. I'm also concurrently planning a trip to DLR in May/June of 2011 (PTR here) and a family reunion to WDW in 2012. I'm considering starting a home travel agency, but I don't know yet. Anyone have any advice? :lmao:

Okay, so, Geeks on a Plane REDUX!

The reason this is "Redux" is that we had originally planned this trip to happen in 1/11, but had to push it back. As it stands right now, we're still planning this trip, but it might not happen due to circumstances that are still ongoing. That original PTR was here.

You've already heard about me, so these are the wonderful people I'll be traveling with:

Jacquie and Ian, my best friend and her husband. Jacquie and I met freshman year of college, as roommates. We clicked instantly and have been best friends ever since. We call each other sisters, since that's what we really feel like, and she knows that no matter what, I'm there for her. Ian is her husband. He's a decent enough guy, and even though sometimes I want to strangle him, I know he tries to do good by Jacquie.

This PTR is called Geeks on a Plane because, really, that's what we are. We're a bunch of geeks and we'll be on a plane. Yeah. :lmao: I could go into the reasons why we're geeks, but those of you who know me already know fully well that I'm a geek.

Now, the reason that we pushed the trip back from 1/11 to 10/11 was because of an old injury that Jacquie sustained in high school. I think she was either a sophomore or a junior, but she tore her ACL doing sports in gym class (I think that was when, but I know what the injury was) and the doctor refused to repair it then, saying that she was still growing and could damage it worse if she repaired it before she was done growing. Well, now it's ten years later and the ACL has completely deteriorated to the point that she can't stand or walk for long periods of time, and needs a total ACL reconstruction. She found this out in July and we discussed the ramifications on the trip, since she'd also just lost her full-time job and its benefits. We agreed that it was best to delay the trip until after she'd had the surgery, so that she'd have had time to heal and pay for the surgery.

Well, her husband doesn't work full-time, either. Jacquie works a part time job as a receptionist at a hotel overnight, so all she does really is sit at the desk, which is good for her knee. Ian works two part time jobs, one at the same hotel on nights Jacquie's off and another on campus as a security guard. At the moment, they have NO health insurance. This is why I don't know if this trip will actually happen or not, because they currently have no way to pay for the surgery, and her health comes before a Disney trip.

But!

If it DOES happen!

Then this is the plan for right now :)

Where and When

We're currently planning on staying at Port Orleans Riverside, but may upgrade to Wilderness Lodge if we get a good deal or downgrade to Pop if we have to for financial reasons.

We're going to be there from October 31 to November 10, so a long trip. The end date may change, but I don't think it will.

We'll be doing the Deluxe Dining Plan, because there are so many 2 credit restaurants we want to go to.

Special Stuff

We plan to do MNSSHP on November 1 and the first MVMCP, which is the main reason for the long stay. We also plan to spend a day at Universal to go see The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, as we're all Potter geeks. We're considering an afternoon at a water park, but we may cut that. This is going to be our big trip. Jacquie and I know that we will probably never get the opportunity to go to Disney together again unless I get married there (which I'd love to do, should I ever get married) or she has a vow renewal.

Anyway

So that's the basic outline of the trip so far. I have a detailed spreadsheet of everything else on Google Docs because I'm insane, but to be fair, I made the spreadsheet when we were still planning on January and then just edited it for the later trip.

And Cherry! Cherry's son might come, but we don't know for sure yet. His dad has custody, so it's complicated.

First things first, I'm sure you can guess where the title comes from, because the three of us are most certainly going to a certain place in a handbasket. But at least we have good company :goodvibes

I met Molly online a few years ago through a friend because of my writing. It was recommended to her, so she read it and contacted me through the site it was posted on and we've just been chatting endlessly ever since. The day that picture was taken was actually the first day I'd ever met her in person, after several years of online and phone chatting. She lives in Pennsylvania, which is why it took us so long to meet.

I met Cherry through Molly earlier this year (I think?) because I was trying to find some likeminded people here in Chicago to get to know. Again, the day that picture was taken was the first time we ever met in person, because our schedules just never coincided. We talk pretty regularly, but mostly via Twitter.

Why

The day after I came back from my last trip, I went to my uncle's house for a Halloween party. The day after that, Halloween, I went to Six Flags Great America with these two. Molly was in town because of a layover on Amtrak and Cherry was available, so the three of us went up to the park for the afternoon to enjoy Fright Fest. If it hadn't been so cold, it would have been more fun, I think. But oh well, we had a good time. Anyway, I had my camera and because right now, I don't have my own laptop (it broke, and I'm currently typing this on the computer at work), I was showing them pictures from my trip. Cherry said she wanted to take her son there one day, and I said that if she ever did, to let me know and I'd help her plan it. Then Molly bursts in and says "We should all go together!" So that's how this trip came to be.

When and Where

We're going December 1 to 4, 2011. Our itinerary is already pretty much set, and we're doing a day each at MK, Epcot, and DHS. We may change the dates, though, because after we picked those dates, I realized that we may come into contact with the Christmas parade taping. But we can always work around that.

We're going to stay at Pop because it's the most economical choice for us. We're also trying to decide between sharing one room or getting two rooms next to each other (adjoining door or not, that doesn't really matter).

We're also going to do the basic Dining Plan, because I did it on this past trip and it made my life so much easier with not having to worry about how much something cost and just getting what I felt like eating. We also want to have dinner at CRT, so we'll be paying for one meal out of pocket, which is all right.

Special Stuff

As I mentioned above, we plan on having dinner at CRT. I'm also going to try to get a Le Cellier reservation, but god only knows if that'll happen. I'm hoping the other two will want to do MVMCP, but we'll see.

My cousin from San Francisco came to visit us in July. She liked it when I was free to show her around Melbourne. She doesn't have many pictures from her trip that weren't taken by me either!! :rotfl:
 


Hey - you're at least 1.5 up on me! I didn't have ME and I hope I have some share in YOUR Photopass.....

Other than what is on the Photopass, I have VERY few pictures of me at WDW!

Initial Itinerary for Geeks On A Plane

So, since this trip is still up in the air and also might be shortened, this itinerary might change drastically before the trip happens. This is just the preliminary itinerary, based on an estimate of when the first MVMCP of 2011 will happen. That might change it as well, depending on those dates. Once again, we'll be on the DxDP.

October 31, 2011
Arrival Day - Early flight out of Midway on Southwest. We'd be staying at my house on October 30 and then taking a cab down that morning. We'll be renting a car, as a lot of the restaurants we want to go to are at resorts and we don't want to spend that much time on the Disney buses. We're going to go to Downtown Disney and hang out there after checking in at the hotel. We're planning to have lunch at Raglan Road sometime in the mid-afternoon and then dinner at the Hoop Dee Doo Revue, probably at the last seating.

November 1, 2011
We're going to spend this day mostly screwing around at the resorts. We're planning on breakfast at 1900 Park Fare at the GF, and then we'll be going to MNSSHP that night. We'd like to get an ADR at Crystal Palace as close to 4pm as possible. At the party, we'll watch Hallowishes and the parade. We'll try and do as many of the rides as we can before 7pm so we can focus on party stuff. We also might go mini golfing before the party. Jacquie and I are planning on getting one of those custom cakes for our breakfast at 1900 Park Fare, so we'll see what happens.

November 2, 2011
This will be an Epcot day. We'll be snacking at F&W, but I know how picky I am and how picky Ian is, so I don't think we'll be getting everything. I also have a feeling we'll share most of it (except the apfel strudel from Germany, that is MINE). We'll do a lunch ADR at Coral Reef and a dinner ADR at Le Cellier, if we can get it. If not, we'll figure something else out :) I have a small list of alternates on my spreadsheet. We'll definitely watch Illuminations.

November 3, 2011
An Animal Kingdom day! We're going to have a pre-open breakfast ADR at Tusker House, and then lunch at Yak and Yeti sometime in the afternoon. We will be having dinner at the Yachtsman Steakhouse over at the Y&B, and it will be a late dinner (i.e., after 8pm). We plan to hit FOTLK, Nemo, and the Safari and Everest.

November 4, 2011
Another MK day! We'd like to do a full day here this day. We're hoping to do breakfast at CRT, and we'll be heading over to the Poly for the Spirit of Aloha dinner show at 5:15. We'll see the 3:00 parade and the night parade.

November 5, 2011
Our Studios day! First things first, we'll grab breakfast at the hotel food court early, then go to DHS before rope drop so we can hit TSMM twice. After that, we'll do the shows and other rides. We'll have lunch at Sci-Fi and then dinner over at the Cape May Cafe at the Y&B around 7.

November 6, 2011
Another MK day. We'll do breakfast at CP prior to park opening, lunch at Liberty Tree, and then a late dinner at Narcoossee's, hopefully in time for Wishes.

November 7, 2011
Epcot again! We're going to do breakfast at Akershus and dinner at Teppan Edo, and snack around the world with the F&WF. We'll also try and hit Illuminations, but if we don't, that's okay.

November 8, 2011
We'll be heading OFF PROPERTY this day to go to (you guessed it) HARRY POTTER! :yay: We've all been looking forward to it for a long time, and Jacquie and I want to get pictures in Hogsmeade :goodvibes We'll grab breakfast at the food court before we leave, then grab lunch somewhere there, probably the Three Broomsticks. For dinner, we'll be heading back to WDW and going to the Contemporary for dinner at California Grill around 8:15-8:30!

November 9, 2011
We're not entirely sure what the plan is for this day. We're thinking about going to Blizzard Beach in the morning, but we might nix the idea and just laze around the resort. We're hoping that this will be the day of the first MVMCP of 2011, so if it is, we're going to go. If it's earlier in the trip, we'll swap days. If it's after that, well... We won't go :lmao: We're planning on breakfast at the resort and then dinner at Liberty Tree. I think it'd be nice to start the Christmas party with LTT's turkey dinner :cloud9:

Departure day :sad: We're planning on a late flight, so we'd have breakfast at Captain's Grille around 9 or 10am, and then lunch at Kona around 3. Then we'd head for the airport. :sad:
