When Hate and Love Collide You Get MAGIC? 2 updates! 3/10

DSCN3329.jpg

We were 1 mile away. The excitement began to build. I began to get a feel a little like home since I grew up here. In just a few brief moments, the first location on the entire trip would have started and this vacation would be in full swing!! We chose to go to Sea World because as a child it was one of my favorite places AND my wife LOVES Halloween. The Halloween Spooktackular was going on and since we wouldn't be able to go to MNSSHP, I figured this would be a great alternative. I prepaid the Sea World at what seemed a a great deal ($155 total 2 adults 1 child) about 2 months prior to our arrival and put them in my Red Folder.

As we turned on to I-drive all the memories as a child began to come back. Including a family tradition of going to Friendlies after anything we did on I-drive. The signs were all pointing the way
DSCN3331.jpg

It would be THIS entrance.... um....no.

DSCN3332.jpg

Finally, after I think 2 possible entrances we came to
DSCN3335.jpg

:cool1::cool1:
Finally here! We gladly paid our parking and proceeded to park the car. I was never so happy to get out of that car!! By now, my son was thrilled to be there, my wife was elated, and I was celebrating our arrival.:woohoo: All I had to do was get the........missing tickets out of the Red Folder. WHAT the Tickets are NOT in the Red Folder? That was totally strange. I know I put all the paperwork for the cruise in the Red Folder on the left side and all the hotel, Disney GAD, Sea World Tickets on the right side. EXCEPT the right side of the folder, had NOTHING!! Apparently, when I called the hotel back in St Louis, I never fully put the paperwork back in the folder. My wife picked up my folder and packed it.:scared1::eek::sad2: This is not good. I freaked out.. just a litt.. A LOT! After a little yelling, I told my wife and son to just head to the front of the park, I was going to make some calls. After getting a hold of my sister, she said she would tell my mom about what was left behind and check my house later. Hopefully, I can have her fax everything down that I needed.

Then it dawned on me that I don't delete anything from my email until after the events are done. So I pulled up my email on my phone and was able to find the Sea World Receipts. I finally got them pulled down when I met my wife in front of one of the souvenir shops. She introduced me to an SW employee that was also a CM. He told me that Sea World still has a way to get the tickets and that I just needed my ID, but the more information the better. If I still had trouble to talk to a manager. I then told him about the GAD paperwork and he said that might be a bigger issue when I get to Disney. We thanked him for his help and went to Guest Services. It turns out if you have your order number, that they can pull up your tickets with an ID and you are good to go.

Once in the park my wife went to her favorite spot to watch and hopefully touch the Dolphins!
DSCN3340.jpg

The one thing I was noticing was the park was CROWDED! As the day grew longer, it only got worse. I was still panicking because of the whole GAD thing. This would be the only way that we could go to Disney and especially the amount of days we were planning. I called my sister one more time and after talking to her for about 10 minutes I agreed that I would worry about it at 6 pm. Until then I would try to enjoy my day.

We would visit the penguin encounter where my son told me that he learned that penguins like to go head first into the water!
DSCN3345.jpg

Not too long after that we would go to Shark Encounter which Adam loved..
DSCN3354.jpg

We were flying through this park. At the rate we were going, we would be done at 1:30. (we arrived at 10:30) My son couldn't careless to read all the little tidbits that I knew I would. I was beginning to think why was I coming to Sea World. At least we would be there for all the activities with the Spooktactcular. We would watch the Sea Lion and Otter show. The mime is still funny but the show was bland. It was the same show as a couple years ago except it had the words texting and Facebook add to them. TBH it was a disappointment. On to trick or treating!

Oh my - what an adventure already!! I hope it all works out with GAD (not sure that that means but sounds important!).

The Halloween Spooktacular at Sea World consists of statioins where you normally get candy or something that is generally sponsored by XYZ company. There were "characters that walk around and some that have a "mini show" like a school of fish in class.

These were the first two that we ran into
DSCN3359.jpg

I think she was a witch but I don't know
DSCN3360.jpg

My son wouldn't sit next to any girl unless I was near or sitting with him.
DSCN3361.jpg

Some Jellyfish, they were a lot of fun
DSCN3362.jpg

What kept killing us was Adam kept wanting to taking pictures with statues and not people. I'm not sure why, but this would become a theme later.
DSCN3363.jpg

About this time, it was time for the Shamu show. This is where you could tell the park is hurting. The trainers are still not allowed in the water and the show suffers for it. If you have ever seen the whales jump up, splash with their fins, rinse and repeat, then this show is more of the same. Its really sad. Its just not the same.

After the show, we decided to take my son to the kid area and let him try a few rides the first is like the Tea Cups but it goes up in the air.
DSCN3367.jpg

DSCN3366.jpg

Then he got a little braver. His first Roller Coaster
DSCN3369-1.jpg

Not long after he would try a ride similar to Tower of Terror. Well this one was more like Tower of the 5 ft drop. He had a blast and my wife fell asleep..haha
DSCN3370.jpg

DSCN3371.jpg

DSCN3372.jpg

After we told him it was hot and a lot of other kids where in the water. I told him just be a kid and run in.. he took me on the offer
DSCN3368.jpg

Finally, after a walking towards the front of the park, we ran into some witches
DSCN3374.jpg

And yet another statue
DSCN3377.jpg

The day was almost done. There was just one thing left to do. Ride Journey to Atlantis. Its a boat ride with a steep drop like Splash Mountain. All of us agreed that we would ride together although my son did not want to. I told him if he didn't like it, then he wouldn't have to do it again. He was fine after the first drop, but when the ride into part roller coaster at the end. My wife got soaked, he got freaked out and began to cry. :guilty: Because of this ride I would have trouble the rest of the trip.

We left the park and my phone was dead. I decided that I would keep the family tradition and go to Friendlies on I-drive. It was about 8pm and when we were seated the waitress said to someone in a rather stern tone,"Well he can just wait another D*%$ minute." My wife and I thought it was odd but w/e we are just hungry and the lack of only 2 hours of sleep is catching up with me.

I have only not tipped a waiter/waitress 4 times in my life. Most of the time, I tip %20 or higher. I wouldn't tip twice this trip. (One would be on the cruise.) You have to be pretty bad in order for that. We placed our orders and after a little while we would get our drinks. I forgot about the sulfur smell in the water. But whatever I would get used to it. While we waited.. waited ... waited for our dinner, we could hear cussing out of the kitchen and our waitress standing around talking in it. (She was not cussing.) Meanwhile, we had been there for about 35 minutes and our drinks had not been refilled. When our meals came out, more of the same. Things were wrong, although minor and then nothing for the drinks. The group behind us had been done with their meal when we arrived and were waiting on their check. They didn't get until after I laid into the manager about the shotty service.

I had tried long and hard not to get upset. I'm tired so its a little easier to be set off. But when the whole time I'm there my drink stays at the level of empty, my son asks for somethings and doesn't get it, or when we never got our ice cream order ever put in..(it was part of the package deal)... my wife could tell I was getting ticked. She asked to talk to a manager and then when he tried to defend.. I lost it. I then told him only 2 other times have I not tipped this would be one. He gave us 20% off the bill which wasn't really anything cause it just covered the ice cream we prepaid and didn't get. Needless to say in the future, I'm going Beaches and Cream!

One more thing during the day, I would talk to :wizard: . He would assure me that if I had ID, I would be fine at Disney. He then told me he would not be able to do what we had planned because Disney wouldn't allow it anymore. What am I talking about? Well, in my PTR I started talking about some pixie dust. I'll explain it in the next....

I'm joining and looking forward to hearing more! I am a former Six Flags employee (six seasons, whew!), so I know what you mean about understanding how things work and it's part of the reason that I always hesitated about working in Disney. I didn't want to magic to be ruined, because honestly, I can't stand going to Six Flags anymore. Not that they're the same, but you get the idea.

In a way, if gives me a bigger appreciation for what WDW does right. That said, I mentioned it in my PTR, but when I was younger I participated in an event where we went back stage a lot for a photo shoots and Make a Wish child. I can tell you, the experience hasn't changed my opinion one way or the other about Disney. I still don't mind Six Flags. Although like yourself, I haven't really been back.

Oh my - what an adventure already!! I hope it all works out with GAD (not sure that that means but sounds important!).

GAD= Give a Day, Get a Day Promotion... basically a free one ticket. I can promise the adventure doesn't stop ahahha. ;)

When things go wrong on our vacations, we just call ourselves "The Griswolds." There is always something that goes wrong or one of us makes a fool out of oneself. It's what makes things interesting.

I have to say, that goodness you were driving and not flying! Waking up late could have been very bad if you missed a flight!

Absolutely spectacular!! I loved reading your PTR and now your TR. You write beautifully and are SO entertaining. Thank you.
Sue

I don't know how you managed a full day at Sea World after that drive!!! Wow. Spooktacular was really neat too!

And its been a few years since we were at Sea World but I so don't remember seeing the kiddie rides...:rotfl2:

Sorry about your horrid dinner experience- ugh! :sad2:

It looks like Sea World was a lot of fun. I didn't know they had a Halloween celebration there.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience at dinner. What a rotten ending to your day. Hope things got better fast! :goodvibes

Wow! What a wild day! I think I'll stay away from that restaurant, even though dh has been wanting to try it. That's just nuts.

Nifty to learn about the halloween fun at Sea World. I've thought about trying that. Loved seeing the pics. It looks fun! Too bad about the Shamu show though..:sad1:

Can't wait to read the rest of this red folder drama!

oh no your pics i cant see them, getting the photobucket bandwith thing...

you start sounds like ours. we always plan to leave chaos free and on time, but that NEVER happens LOL.

I cant believe you did a full day at that park after that drive, even just being the passanger i would just want to relax lol.

I would have freaked about all the tixs and wouldnt have even thought to look it up on my phone or us an id etc. smart man!

cant wait to read more. hopefully photobucket will be working to enjoy your pics!

What a crazy day!

Sounds like you and your family enjoyed Sea World and I am a huge fan of penguins! :thumbsup2

I am sorry about your bad service at Friendly's after the drama with the red folder that was the last thing you needed!

I hope everything works out and your able to use the GAD!

The pictures worked for me yesterday, but now I can't see them either. Weird! :confused3

I agree about it making the trip interesting. We used to go camping a lot and something always happens when we go. I told a neighbor about how I wished it would just be a "nothing goes wrong" trip and his response was... "Then it would be a boring trip."

Funny thing is I work in a time sensitive job. However, I guess since I'm not at work it wasn't that important. Vacation in everything I guess.

Thank you very much Sue! I hope you enjoy the rest as much as I have enjoyed sharing it.

Looking back on the trip, my wife and I discussed it and we would have not gone to Sea World. We arrived on a Sunday and it would be until about Tuesday before we were settled. In addition, although Sea World had its moments, it was not the place for my 7 year old. He really could have cared less except for the Shark Encounter and the Shamu Harbor (kids play area behind Shamu Stadium). I think in the future I will probably enjoy it more when he is older and wants to leisurely enjoy the park. We would have this problem again at Animal Kingdom.

Very interesting...I'm subbing:goodvibes

:welcome: I promise this story only will get better.

I didn't either until The Dis Podcast brought it up. We only did it because at the time, it would have been cheaper than Mnsshp. Dinner was a shame. It was the Ice Cream they are known for and the only thing we left without. As far as getting better, before I would never said Disney can make a difference....

We have ate there a lot in our life. My wife and I went there during our honeymoon trip. We ate in the afternoon with little to no problem. They have this Bbq sauce and Ranch sandwich. Sounds completely disgusting but its really good. My parents thinks we had a bad night. For us, we really have never done Disney Dinning so we have a bit more incentive to try some of there places out.

Sorry about the picture thing. I got it solved. I was trying to arrange my Photobucket last night to up load more photos for the next couple installments and moved the pictures into another folder. Either way, all is well again. I'm used to little or no sleep by this point because of the hours I was working. We took my parents car, so my wife didn't feel comfortable in driving. The trip coming back.. that was rough.

For those going to Sea World, write down your order number even if you print off your tix. It will save you!

What a crazy day!

St Louis has one of the better Zoos in the nation. It is also free to the general public. One of its treasures is the small penguin exhibit that is a lot of fun a little more personal. That said, Sea World's is HUGE and easily my favorite. I was a little irked at the family as they just wanted to keep moving. The Penguin Encounter was jammed with people and it made it hard on a 49 inch kid to want to stick around.

As far as the GAD, it did work out. I would find out just how cool CM's would be by the time I left Sea World. I'll explain in the pixie dust!;)

The pictures worked for me yesterday, but now I can't see them either. Weird! :confused3

I explained it above and got it fixed.:thumbsup2

What a busy, busy day! I'm so glad that Sea World was able to get your tickets taken care of. I would have had a huge meltdown if that had happened to me!

I found it funny that you said that you stop in Paducah, because when we drive down, we always shoot first for Paducah or Chattanooga.

In my ptr, I hinted at a bit of pixie dust. What was it? Well, let me explain the story and we will see if I end up telling you what it was.

Since I work really late, I generally don't have much to do when I am off from work. My wife and son are asleep. So normally I go to the gym. Lol I know it doesn't look like it, but this year I have lost about 20lbs total. The rest of the night until I fall asleep, I game. I have been playing with the same amount of "virtual" friends. Many of us are in similar age and discuss the various things on-going in our lives.

I had mention to one of them about my trip to WDW a few years back and a promise to my son. I told the whole story about him saving, being mad, and how I wanted to surprise him. One of my friends mention she had a friend that worked for WDW and would probably help me out if I would ask. I wasn't going to. I had previously made up my mind that I wouldn't asked any employee for favors. Especially, if I didn't know them. I was listening to a ton of podcast about WDW at this time and would hear about the "special people" that work there. The last thing I wanted was someone to go out of their way to help me. Not to mention: EVERYONE online has a friend. With that I forgot about it.

July

My wife was in the having health issues. I was beginning to work long hours. My car wasn't working. Some co-workers of mine were having health issues. Needless to say it was a rough month. One night talking in the game I was playing, the same friend started asking me about our trip. The trip was the one thing that kept me sane. She again reiterated that she has a friend that works at WDW and she thinks he wants to help. I told her what any person would in that month of hell... yeah yeah.. a huh.. yep.. sure. All the time thinking, nothing is going to happen. I'm an average guy, with an average family. There wasn't any reason for anyone to help out.

August

Disney announced their increase in ticket prices. I was bummed as this would surely kill the MnSShp that my wife so badly to attend. When I found a deal online for Sea World, I was pretty sure that was what we would do instead and decided to live with that decision.

As conversations came up, my friend would ask me how the trip was going. I told her how I was frustrated and that I couldn't believe that I just couldn't get all the money for MnSShp and the tickets. She knew that I was working nearly 60 hours a week in 95+ heat everyday getting about 3 hours of sleep. It would eventually takes it told as my body one weekend shut down on me. After my friend listened to the story she said, "You know Jon let me talk to {namewitheld}. I think he can help you out." I was like 'sure just let me know I guess.' or something like that.

In September, I would take another blow as I didn't manage how my bills come out of my checking account. In turn, I bounced a check or two. It was becoming clear the we weren't going to go to anything extra, may be not even Disney. We had the money, but when you are paying everything in cash, I really had to be sure.

My friend would contact me one more time... at this point I was pretty low and figured I would stop fighting a helping hand and listen. She then asked me what Adam's favorite characters were, if we still needed tickets..stuff like that. She then told me to email to her the story of our trip and that she would pass it along.

So I did. I told her the story of my son's rage at his parents about how they met Woody and Buzz and not him, how he saved for his 1st trip, and how this was my big gift to him. She then forwarded it to the CM friend of hers.

October

I didn't hear anything from my friends friend or her for that matter. The trip was coming up in just a few weeks. It was nice of her to try and help out, but I sorta new nothing really would happen. I had no sleep on this one day, and I got an email and it said this:

"Nice to finally meet ya jon. The story here sounds like it'll b a dream come true. My schedule drops a weeks prior sooo send me dates when for when ur n Orlando and ill work around what I'm working to make some magic for ur son..woody and buzz have sets together at studio's and Mickey is everywhere..I can set up a private meet and greet with some characters and I think I can help with MNSSHP.."

and then he would go into detail of what he WOULD do... I was just floored and emotional. I don't cry, but I was balling like a baby. Someone I have never met, is willing to go out of his way for my family. This trip needed a lot of love to get it to where it was going... I told him one last time that if he was too busy that it would totally be ok. As it was, I was going to be on vacation with my family and that was enough for me.

Ok, I'm back, again. :) Just finished reading the new installments. I have to agree with you on TN. IT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!! I told DH after driving straight through last year, if I saw one more "See Ruby Falls" sign I was going to explode! :rotfl: Those signs are every 50 feet, or so it seemed! I have to say though, I don't recall seeing a single one on the way home! :lmao:

We hit Atlanta at night and LOVED it! Except for one minor Garmin mishap, (which was totally all my fault) we shot right through.

Sorry to hear that Sea World wasn't as amazing as expected. At least he enjoyed parts of it though! Could have been a total bust and massive melt down point for him after driving so long. :)

I must say, after your last post, you left me in tears. I'm such a sucker for the stories like this of random people helping others out. I can't wait to see how it all turned out for you!!! And btw, I DID sub to this thread so I hopefully won't miss anymore updates. :rotfl2:

~Morgan~

Loving the story and CONGRATS on the 20lbs. lost!!! That is nothing to smirk at, it's hard work!!! :thumbsup2
