TiW Renewal

I know that TiW can be renewed as long as an AP is valid, even if the AP expires soon and is not renewed itself.

But my question is:

I bought both the AP and TiW on the same day in May 2010. So they both will expire in May 2011. In 2011, I have only 2 visits planned, one in January and another with a big group in September. So TiW would be useful then, especially as we plan to eat at several Deluxe places. But I don't plan on renewing the AP right away.

Would it be possible to renew TiW already in January, even though the current card won't expire until May 2011?

If you "renew" early, the 13 months for which the card is good will start on the day you renew, not be added on to the end of the current card. So, you can renew, but you'd cheat yourself out of four months. Of course, that might be a valid tradeoff for you, if you won't have a valid annual pass an no other way to renew.

I asked about this at EPCOT guest relations last Sunday. My card expires before my next trip in December, and I wanted to save time by renewing it early. The cast member explained there really is no renewal, just a new card every time, so I'd've really been buying a second card which would've overlapped my current one.

Since I wouldn't be able to get a new card in September, if I don't renew the AP it seems to be the only possibility, losing 4 month wouldn't be that bad, seeing that if we eat at V&A as planned, the saving in tipps for 6 people would already outweigh the purchase price.
