Question about booking dummy cruises

I would imagine indefinitely, unless policy is changed along the way.

We just booked a dummy although we don't intend to hold it long (just until the remainder of 2012 dates are released, which for those curious we were told by the rebooking agent will be April)

We booked a dummy on our '08 cruise for Dec. 10 and just moved it to the Fantasy sailing of June 23,2012. No problem. Who know's we may end up moving it again if hubby can't find a job soon. He was laid off the day after we got back from DW a year ago August.

what happens to the money once you transfer the deposit to a second cruise? does it get refunded out of your account and charged back? or do they just transfer from one cruise to another?

Yes, you save 10% and get OBC. When you move the reservation, they just transfer the deposit to the new date, but you get to keep the discount and OBC. If you think you will take another cruise it is totally worth it.

The posters are referring to booking another cruise while onboard to receive the discount. Thus, they book a "dummy" not knowing when exactly they want to sail next.

I have a question about booking onboard ... if I booked the cheapest cabin available, can I later upgrade to a better cabin and still get the 10% off the entire price of the more expensive cabin?

I can't think of a reason to book a dummy cruise date through DCL. The advantage to doing it onboard is that you can get a discount and an onboard credit. If you book off the ship, you are just tying up the deposit money. You will still pay whatever the current rate is when you switch to a "real" date. (In fact, some people who book offshore and look into rebooking onboard find that the fare they got by booking early is less than the fare they could get onboard, even accounting for the discount and credit.)

Ok, quick question...normal deposit is 20% of cost, so it would be 10% if rebooked on board?

Those are the perks for an onboard booking. I assume the person asking about booking a dummy date through DCL meant booking online or on the phone.

I so am gonna do this now. I was debating if I should book for my birthday (the end of April) for the new Dream when I boarded the Wonder in two weeks. But gosh, I really don't know if I'd be able to come up with full payment in a couple of months for it. Now, I can see from ya'lls post that as long as I change the date before final payment is due that I'll still be able to get the 10% saving and OBC and then I'll have more time to pay it off if needed. Right?
