Disney gift cards & payments

Can Disney gift cards be used as payments? I cannot find definite answers to this anywhere! I know they can be used onboard towards your account but I need to know if they can be applied to your balance.

I believe that they can be used, however a quick call would be able to confirm this..... or someone with an active non TA ressie could see if paying with a gift card would be an option?
I know that my TA does not accept gift cards towards the cruise, but some do, as long as the value is over $100....etc.

I called DCL about this a few weeks ago.

The person I spoke with said you can call DCL and have the gift cards applied to your account. He said he had someone do this once and they applied 15 $100 gift cards to their account (to pay off the balance).

He did advise to keep the cards, as apparently if you don't spend them all they will credit the $100 (or however much) back to the gift card.

I just went to the "make a payment" section on my reservation, and under the "card type" box, Disney Gift Card is an option

yes you can. I do it that way every time. BUUUUT~ keep them! If you cancel or under spend on an on board credit they can not return the money without the card!! This is absolutely firm! Its like cash.
