hi there my wife and i will be going on our first curise on April on the disney magic just wondering how the tipping works i know at the resorts we leave the tip for the house keeping every morning i guess that would work the same on the curise but for the servers do i pay them on the last dinner service or do i tip them at the end of each night not sure how this works or do they find you before you leave the ship on the last day please help
thank you

That tipping does not work the same as on the cruise.

You tip 4 positions at the end of the cruise:
1. Your room steward (roughly analagous to housekeeping, but more)
2. The dining room manager
3. Your Head Server
4. Your Assistant Server

Room Service is tip when they deliver (usually $1 to $2 per person -- I think)

There is a link to a tipping calculator in the DCL FAQ stickied at the top of the forum.

I'm sure more will chime in on this.

Congrats on your first cruise! :)

You tip the last night, they send a little set of envelopes to your room for each of your servers...typically, you tip your 2 servers in your dining area and the head manager (much less)...and your room attendant...any above that you can tip on your own (special CM's etc.) Room service, I tip as they bring it, the food is free but the tip is not added in.

HTH!

You hand the envelopes to those that you are tipping.

So a family of 4 on a 3 day Cruise are recommended to tip a Main Server $48 and Assistant Server $36 for all meals.

Sorry, this is all very new to me :goodvibes

The DCL standard is to tip $12 per person in your cabin, per day of your cruise. The $12 is divided and given to each person, but that is the way to calculate your total. The number of meals you eat, or where you eat does not effect this.

You can also prepay the recommended tip amount by calling DCL. You can also go to guest services on the ship and put the tips on to your shipboard account.

If you prepay, they will leave vouchers that you give them instead of cash in the envelopes.

Just so you know the tips for the servers are not just for the dinners that you have with them but you are also tipping them for serving else were on the ship like for example they may help serve breakfast at Topsiders (Magic)/ Beach Blanket (Wonder)/ Cabanas (Dream) or they could be in another restaurant, also on Castaway Cay they help serve food and drinks around the island.
