Tipping in an Envelope

Hi,
I was going to DISign some tip envelopes for our first cruise but I wanted to see if those would be acceptable to the servers and such, and if I needed to include any specific information on them (such as a blank for the server's name, our stateroom number, etc)

I used them on our first cruise. I had prepaid the tips and you get a little slip with the info to give to your server at the end of the cruise. I put that in the envelope plus a little extra cash for a job well done. Have a great cruise!

Does the envelope they gave you have any info on it or is it just a blank envelope?

Yes that is right. The envelopes I had printed did not ,I just kept track myself on who's was who's.

I am so dreading this tipping process. I am used to sailing on Princess where the tips are automatically charged to your room and you don't have to worry about any of it at all. Sounds like DCL is back to how it was when we first started cruising and you have the envelopes and you hand them out on the last night. I always found that process rather uncomfortable and awkward.

If you prepay before the cruise, do you still have to hand anything out? Going on the 2-night so I am trying to simplify. Time will be precious!

The envelopes you receive on the ship are printed with the title of who receives them. There are 2 lines for you to put your last name and stateroom number.

The tipped positions are Server, Assistant Server, Head Server (in the dining room) and Stateroom Host. If you go to dinner the final night in the dining room, you will see everyone on the dining room staff. Your stateroom host is in and out of your room all the time - if you don't see him, just leave the tip envelope on the bed or the desk.

If you tip on your stateroom account, the envelopes aren't essential, as they will receive their tips (though I hear it might take longer?). If you plan to tip cash, just make sure to go to the dining room the last night for dinner or disembarkation morning for breakfast to pass out the envelopes.

There will be a form in your stateroom the day before your last night that you will fill out and take to Guest Services. They will issue you slips to put in the envelopes. Those are handed out on the last night. The servers will not ask you for the envelopes but will tend to "hang" out more at your table so that will give you an opportunity to give them their tip envelopes.

Just got off the Magic yesterday so it's all fresh in my mind. On Thurs our stateroom host delivered the envelopes during his morning room servicing.

Along with the envelopes comes a form that explains the recommended amounts and who typically gets tipped. You can use the form as a guide if you want to tip in cash or fill out if you'd like to put tips on your onboard account. There is a drop box at guest services so you don't have to wait in line with your completed form. It was raining Thurs and dh & kids were at a movie so I filled it out right away, knowing Fri would be a busy day. By Thurs evening, tickets were delivered in an envelope that had each CM's full name and the amount you are tipping them. It's perforated so I get a stub to keep and the larger part goes in the tipping envelopes. These have the position printed on them (server, asst server, head server and stateroom host/ess) and a small line to write your name.

I find it sooo easy to just put them all on our onboard account. When our service is incredible, we add some extra cash.

My envelopes are made thru the design board and they have the names of who gets the tip and our name on the other side. Should I put our cabin number on them as well? Thank you

I am prepaying...so all I do is put the slip of paper in the envelope (with an little extra if feel service deserved it) and hand to the server, asst server and Head server at Dinner on last night? I would leave the envelope in the room for the room guy (sorry forget his/her title).

If you want to prepay your tips before you sail you can call your TA or DL, whomever you booked with, and just tell them you want to prepay your tips according to DCL's guidelines. You will get the vouchers delivered to your cabin before the last full day of the cruise.
