I love that your flight was blissfully uneventful!! NO puking, kicking kids, and a nice seatmate to boot!!

So, you're going to take the plunge again??! Awesome!! Can't wait to hear about it!

It was such a great flight. Normally my seat is directly in front of the most obnoxious child on the flight. I don't know if there were any kids at all on this flight. Certainly there weren't any in the front where I was, but if there were they were quiet the entire flight. I made up for my wonderful flight though on the way home.

I may be taking the plunge. It's just looking to be so expensive just for the weekend. The prices on the flights home are really ugly already. I have to keep playing with the dates and see what I can do.

I'm joining in! I was a lurker on your pre-trip report. By the time I found it you were so close to being finished I didn't bother commenting:rolleyes1

I was hoping to do the Princess Half in Feb. I finished the C25K a few weeks ago. We decided to go to Disney in May instead:sad1:. I am 28 and I plan on having more kids soon so I have told DH I will be doing it at some point before I am 35. I should be able to train in 7 years right:lmao:

I have to admit since we canceled the Feb last week I haven't been running at all. I need to get back out there or my legs will go back to being jiggly jello.

I live in CT too!

Can't wait to hear all about it. I am also one of those non runners who have always wondered why people ran. There must be something wrong them, they are running by choice. No one is chasing them. Why would they be running:scared1:

Welcome, and thanks for joining in! The Wine and Dine ended up being a great experience. I didn't think I'd want to do 13.1 miles again, but the Princess sounds like fun, and my friend really wants to earn her medal.

I haven't done much running since I got back. I need to get with the program if I'm going to train for another half!

What part of CT are you from? I'm on the shoreline, just about at the midway point on the shoreline.

I won't lie, for purely selfish reasons, I'd love to see you down there in February!

Only if it's feasible for you, hon. :goodvibes

I'm really hoping to be able to go. Right now it's the airfare costs for the flight home that are putting a damper on my plans. They are really keeping it from being doable. I don't usually pay more than $125 for each leg of my trip, and they want me to pay over $200 just to get home. Too much for a quickie trip.

Hopefully I'll find a good deal, because for pureely selfish reasons of my own, I'd love to be there to meet you guys too. :goodvibes

Joining! A huge congrats to you for the 1/2 marathon, I am so inspired by people like yourself that have the courage to take on a challenge!!! :thumbsup2 I was a "cross country runner" in high school which translated to walking mostly and running when the mood struck. Over the last several months, I've been able to run about 2.5 miles a day, but it took great work and lots of effort. I commend you!!! So excited to read about your trip!!! :goodvibes

Thanks, and welcome! I still tend to think that insanity took over when I chose to do this. It was a rough year leading up to it, but I'm so glad that I took the chance.

That's great about the 2.5 miles per day. Now that I made it through this half, I want to get back to working on running again. Maybe some day I can actually run the majority of a half!

I'm in!! Can't wait to hear more!!!

:thumbsup2 More to come soon.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRISSY!!!

party:

I hope you have a great day today!!

I think, I really need to stay away from these Disney races, it sounds like they are very addictive!! :goodvibes I think the idea of signing up for a new race is a great motivation to keep up with your training. But I get your issue about training in winter. After a small foot injury I really need to start training again and I just can't motivate myself, it is already pretty cold outside (first freezing night tonight! :scared1:).

Thanks! It was a wonderful birthday.

Hope your foot is doing better! When winter comes I want to do nothing but hole up in the house, with a blanket and my knitting. If I could overcome my fear of treadmills I could do a good portion of my runs on that, and just have to face up to the long runs outdoors. If I do it, it's going to be really tough. No freezing temps here yet, and I'm so not looking forward to them.

Happy Birthday, Crissy!!! Have a great day!!!

Happy Birthday!!

It sounds like the Princess would be so much fun! I hope you can swing it! :goodvibes

Thanks for the birthday wishes! I had a great day for my birthday. I had it off from work (that alone made it a great day), I treated myself to a pedicure, and I chopped off all my hair (which felt wonderfully liberating). This coming weekend my mom is taking the family out to dinner for my birthday, so I actually get to celebrate again. Woo Hoo!

Having made it off the plane and onto the mini-monorail in record time, I was in the ME area in no time flat, where my friend was already there waiting for me. She beat me by a few minutes. :) We spent a few minutes getting caught up and then headed over to the buses, where began our trip of absolutely fantastic travel timing. We checked in with the CM who directed us to the proper lane for the Beach Club. We made it up to the rope at the front of the line where another CM told us to go hop on the bus, it was just about to leave. Sweet! No waiting at all! :thumbsup2 This really set the standard for all of our traveling around this trip. I've never had a trip before where we practically never had to wait for a bus, boat, car - anything. I think we had to wait one night for a bus for about 10 minutes. Otherwise we always had perfect timing.

We had a pretty cool bus driver. He kept us entertained on the ride to Disney with stories, instead of just watching the video. I do enjoy the video, but since this was my third trip this year, it was nice to have something else to listen to. We got to skip a stop at POR since no one on the bus was staying there. He asked which place we wanted to stop at next, and since the majority of the people on our bus were staying at the Boardwalk that was our next stop. We were next and in no time at all we were walking through the doors into the lobby of the Beach Club. I loved the beach smell as soon as you walked in the doors. Ahhh!

We hadn't done online check in since we still needed to divide up the remaining balance for payment. There was no line at the counter though, so we were being helped as soon as we walked up to the counter. It was only about 10 am, but we lucked out yet again and our room was ready and waiting for us.

I had toyed with the idea of putting a room request on the reservation. Secretly I had been hoping for an upper level room with a balcony, but in the end I chose not to request anything specific. Why? It was tempting, but honestly whenever I put a specific request on my reservation I never get it. Never. Last trip I had requested a Boardwalk view - didn't get it. On our last family trip I had requested a first floor room since my mother was having difficulties walking - didn't get that either.

Conversely whenever I don't ask for anything, I've gotten some really nice rooms, sometimes with view upgrades. I've lucked out with getting great canal view rooms at POFQ and once a savannah view room at AKL when all I had booked was a standard view room. I had already decided this trip to just go with the flow. That meant just seeing what kind of room they gave us. Once again not asking for anything, got me a pretty sweet room. We ended up being upgraded to a 4th floor water/pool view room!:banana::banana: I don't think I'm ever putting a room request on my reservation again. :rotfl: Our room felt like a long walk from the lobby (we were right where the red and purple dot on the map is), but looking at the map now, we weren't very far away at all. All those rooms to the left side have quite a hike. We were right at the end of the hallway. Any further over and we'd have had a room at the Yacht Club.

I'll admit to something right now. I love the deluxes, but for some reason the walks to the lobby always feel so much longer when your walking down those endless hallways than the outdoor walks at the moderates and the values do. Maybe it's because I always feel like I'm in the movie "The Shining" when I'm walking down those endless corridors, but I much prefer the walks outside. That probably means I need to stay at the Poly to get the best of both worlds. :thumbsup2

We were so excited to have a view that the first thing we did was run out to our balcony to snap a few pictures and enjoy the view.

The balcony was just big enough for the two of us to stand there, but we didn't mind at all with a view like that. The balcony was completely protected from the sun, so it was a nice place to spend some time. The room itself was beautiful. Very bright and clean looking. It wasn't much different from our Boardwalk room back in December.

Our only plans were to pick up our race packets at the expo, and dinner at the California Grill. We still had time before the expo was to begin, so we spent some time wandering around Stormalong Bay before heading over to Beaches and Cream when they opened for some lunch. I loved it there. So cute!

We were the first ones in there, so we had no wait at all. It left us with plenty of time to snap a few pictures.

The food was okay. I forgot to take any pictures, but I had a burger and onion rings. Not the best burger I had this trip, but not bad. After finishing off our lunch it was time to find out where we needed to pick up the buses to the race expo.

Great update :thumbsup2 I am excited to read about BC, I really want to stay there next year if I return for round 2 of the Wine&Dine half...that must have been a great place to stay for that race :goodvibes

Awesome view from your room! I have never been to Beaches and Cream before...looks cool inside!!

Wow, what a great location! :thumbsup2 I hope this is going to set the tone of this trip! :goodvibes I think it is funny how you feel the corridors are longer than the outdoor walk! Here in Europe we don't have hotels/motels with outdoor hallways and for me this is so cheap, so I love the indoor corridors. But I think those at AKL are the best, because now and then there are windows from where you can see the savanna with the animals, a great improvement to just being long hallways! :goodvibes

I'd like to follow along with the race and festivities too... I've known I needed to do something for me for a while now, but I have always found a reason: work or kids. I feel the need to read Bingham's book now. I am always amazed at how things appear when ya need them. Now I gotta find that library card...
Congrats to you on your accomplishment! and thanks for sharing with us

I really liked the Beach Club alot this trip, but am now torn over which I like more - the Beach Club, or the Boardwalk. I think I like the Boardwalk better for the resort itself, but the Beach Club wins lots of points for Stormalong Bay. It was the perfect place to stay for this race trip.

I was so thrilled to have that view. It did end up having one minor drawback that will come up later, but it wasn't a major factor for us. It was my first time at Beaches and Cream too. We ended up making a repeat appearance there.

You are right about the corridors at AKL. Those windows help alot. I guess I just prefer to walk outside and take in the fresh air. When I bought my condo I had to be sure I bought one that didn't have long hallways either. I watched the Shining way too many times as a kid. I never realized how much it scared me before when it comes to long hallways. :rotfl:
What a great view!!!

Love your new avatar picture! :thumbsup2

I just spent way too much money ordering the cd of pictures from the race. It's just wrong what they charge for those things when they have so few pictures. I splurged though since it was my first race. I need to show off that medal as much as possible.

Thanks for joining in. Luckily the race stuff comes up fairly quickly!

I really love that book. I had borrowed it from the library, and ended up buying a copy I found on ebay. It just really hit home for me.

Great update!! I wish we stayed at the Beach Club now. Your room looks SO nice & I love the pool view! Sorry I'm late in saying this, but: Happy Birthday!!!!

Great view!!! Love that you had such great timing for busses and beaches and cream!!!!:wizard: must have had some pixie dust with you

I'm back and caught up! Great room, I'd love to stay at Beach Club sometime and get to try out Stormalong Bay.

Oh, and those hallways! I agree, our room location at AKL was fine, but way at the end, and we had to walk FOREVER to the lobby and buses. (Not so bad to the pool, though.)

And belated happy birthday!

Your view looks amazing. Someday I would like to try the Beach Club or Boardwalk, but for now AKL is our home:love:

Cant' wait to read more.:surfweb:

The Beach Club was really lovely. Very relaxing. Next time I go with my friend, we want to try the Yacht Club. I think I've created a deluxe monster. :rotfl:

Thanks for the Birthday wishes. I've really had one of the nicest birthdays this year. :goodvibes

There was definitely some pixie dusting over my trip this time. I think the room upgrade was my favorite pixie dusted part, but our luck with the buses was definitely a close second. I really felt like someone was watching over this entire trip, if that doesn't sound too silly. In December I was so stressed and miserable, and this time was the complete opposite, even with the race.

What a wonderful update!

Your room is beautiful but your view is even better!!

I swear I was doing a little happy dance when I threw open the curtains. I made sure I went out there at least once a day to really enjoy it.

I love, love, love Stormalong Bay. I could have spent my entire vacation just hanging out by the pool.

I wish that the resorts had more than one spot to exit if you wanted. Our room would have been fine if there was another set of elevators down our side. It was a major pain to have to hike back to the elevators to trudge through the lobby just to go back to an area of the pool that was right underneath where our room was.

Your view looks amazing. Someday I would like to try the Beach Club or Boardwalk, but for now AKL is our home:love:

I really love being so close to Epcot and DHS. That's where I usually end up spending most of my trips, so the location is perfect for me. I do love AKL though too. I stayed there once, and found it to be one of the most relaxing places I've stayed.

What a fantastic view, and upgrade! You lucky duck!!

Beaches and Cream is a fantastically cute place! I really liked it. And NO bus wait! Awesomeness at its best! :thumbsup2
