Has anyone purchased Travel Insured Trip Protector Lite? Were you happy with it, did you need customer support at all? Did you have to make any claims and were they handled appropriately?

I'm considering purchasing this plan for our January cruise as it seems to be the least expensive and I think it covers everything we need.

We purchased it and used it...I lost my digital camera on board and it covered the camera, memory and case. I filled out a claim form and the check was mailed to me within 2 weeks. I had no idea it covered "self inflicted" losses but it did. I'm sure others have had far worse claims that were covered!

I feel very comfortable with Travel Insured as this is the only company that USAA offers on their website for travel insurance for their members. I am sure there are several other reputable carriers. We also purchased the Trip Protector Lite because we felt that was all we needed. We have health insurance and no pre-existing issues and were comfortable with the coverage limits of the travel policy. We mainly wanted to cover possible travel delays or cancellation, the medical portion is a nice extra if we needed to use it. The price was also right!

Thanks JXD! The plan seems pretty good, but I was just wondering if it was a "too good to be true" deal since they are about $40 less than every one else. I wait and see what others have to say. Our final payment to DCL is not due until mid-November and Travel Insured does offer a 14-day money back guarantee.

The 14 day refund is very easy. We purchased the Worldwide Trip Protector because we wanted to take advantage of the "Cancel for Work Reason". I didn't know if I could take off when I made my deposit. I determined within the 14 days that I could and cancelled the policy and changed it to the Trip Protector Lite. Their customer service was able to make the cancellation and rebooking via e-mail in about 10 minutes from my initial cancellation request. Very easy and prompt personal service. My credit card clearly indicated the original booking, the cancellation and the new booking.

Wow! I did not know that, and I thought I was pretty trip insurance savvy. Thanks for that bit of information! And it's also nice to know that USAA offers Travel Insured.

What kind of proof did you have to provide them that a) the camera was indeed lost and b) what the value of it was?

Thanks!

I have purchased this insurance through USAA for all of our trips. I have never had to file a claim, but I trust USAA and I don't think they would choose a bad product for their members. When purchasing through USAA, it is the only insurance that covers military leave revocation. We have had that happen to us before and it is always a concern, so I always feel better with a company that will cover that option. We are using it for our upcoming DCL vacation - price was less than half of DCL trip insurance and covers significantly more.

I wish I had used it for last summer's beach trip (we drive and hotels aren't too expensive and we can cancel day of). My brand new camera disappeared from our room and we didn't realize we were missing it until we got to the next hotel for the second half of our trip and found it wasn't in the bag. It was expensive and only a few months old, but the real disappointment was that I hadn't figured out how to download pics yet and lost all of the baby pics of my newborn covering a three month period...

I filed a "Lost Article Claim" with Guest Services at DCL. I included that with a copy of my original camera receipt. I didn't have a receipt for the memory card or the case but included the value on the claim and they paid it in full. I was very suprised that they covered it too!

Thanks! That's really good to know. I'll check all my policies in the future to see if they have that sort of coverage. Hopefully I won't need it, but it's nice to know it's there!

This insurance sounds great. I am booked (not paid in full) for Dec. 2011 and opted for the DCL insurance when I made my reservation while on board. Can I cancel the DCL insurance and switch over.

If so how soon do you have to apply or should apply an insurance to your trip. In other words if I cancel my DCL insurance and I want to insure my trip when should I shop for new coverage, can I wait till next year to get it or close to the trip.

I really need something that covers loss, I lost or left my camera at dinner twice on our past trip, but it was returned to guest services. The second time our assistant waiter ran me down before I got out the door.

Thanks... great info

What is USAA?

USAA is United Services Automobile Association - it is exclusively for military and their dependents. However, military members may sign their kids up who can sign up their kids so the group can be larger than people who are currently in the mlilitary. Once a member, you remain a member! They started primarily to provide insurance to military officerss, but expanded not only to provide insurance to all military members but also offer banking, credit cards, and a lot of discounts on travel.

I know the policy I booked ONLY covers pre-existing conditions if you purchase the insurance within 14 days of making an initial deposit. DCL doesn't cover pre-existing conditions at all. If you are already outside of that window and don't have something which may be considered a pre-existing condition if you must cancel your trip (cancer, diabetes, or some other disease), you can cancel the DCL insurance at any time and purchase any other insurance at any time. I would recommend doing it before you make any final payments!! I usually book before I purchase ANYTHING that is non-refundable (like airfare or an non-refundable deposits)

I am planning on buying my policy less than 14 days before my final payment since Travel Insured offers a 14 day money back guarantee.

We've used them for several trips. Had an ER trip once (completely covered) and cancelled a trip from illness (deposits and air fare covered at 100%). using them again! we also have USAA, and I didn't know you could purchase it thru them. I've always bought it from insuremytrip.com

If you go to the USAA website (you have to be logged in) under shopping and discounts you will see a listing for cruises and travel insurance. Click on that and it will take you to the travel site. From there you can select the travel insurance. It takes you to a USAA/ Travel Insured site. I think there are a few extra bennies you get by doing it this way!! Plus USAA will mediate for you if there is a problem with one of their approved providers and you book through their site!

Thanks. I found it under other insurance!

I have this exact same question. I'm going on the Magic on 10/8/11 to the eastern carribean. I am mostly concerned with missing the trip due to weather (ie hurricaines) or getting sick onboard. Has anyone had any experience with this Travel Insured Trip Protector Lite? It does seem like the right price but you know the saying about if it's too good to be true it probably is.

Wow, this is an old post resurfacing. We did wind up buying the Protector Lite policy. Purchasing was pretty straight forward. Other than that, I can't really provide feedback since fortunately we did not have to make a claim.

If you are wondering why they are the cheapest it is because they do not charge for children under the age of 18. One free child per insured adult.

I purchased 10K of insurance for 3A 2C and paid $218. What really burns me is that any Trip Insurance sites which offer reviews are usually negative. Those who have positive experience rarely report them.

For each covered adult, one child under 18 is covered at no additional cost (except for optional plan add-ons). The child must be a Family Member of the Primary Insured.
