Quoting myself, I don't count the one with just a small band of white as the white bottom, these two mugs, the bottoms are obviously different. The one with the white bottom is from last fall, the one with the design all the way down is from this April.

I hate the current mugs!!!! I didn't buy one last December because they would never fit in our cupholders. I like the old design. The handle on the new one comes down too far. What do people have? Gorilla hands? ACK! :headache: Now to hear that they'll be the same old mugs THIS December does not make me happy. Two trips twelve months apart should get me two different mugs.

I'm disappointed that they don't have resort-specific ones anymore, but at least the new designs are alright. :) I'm glad they are the ones that go all the way down to the bottom and not the ones with the white. Thanks so much for posting this! I would have been disappointed arriving at Pop Century to find they only had one kind of mug.

I agree that they should change them. If we can't have resort-specific ones, at least give us new ones each year for returning guests.

so happy to find this thread! Today I found an old refillable mug from a trip to CBR in 1995 and wondered if I could still use it. I guess the answer is yes, but I have a, probably, silly question. Would it only be a forever mug at CBR, or can I use it at the resort I am staying at this trip?

Actually, the answer is still no. And you definitely can't use it at another resort. Just because the text isn't written on the mug, doesn't mean the rules don't apply.

The mug you are asking about is still good today, however it can only be used at Caribbean Beach Resort and no where else.

It's still good but only at CBR! Keep it in case you return there again!

Hey - just a thought - but there are some from Halloween and Spring Break from 1999 and 1998 on ebay. Could I buy an old mug and have it to use at the resorts now? There were some resort specific ones, but these are not - anyone know?

exactly. The mugs were sold in the rooms at CBR in 2000 and 2001 with a paper stating the price and that they were good for this stay and all future stays at the resort and that if used you would be billed for each mug unwrapped and used! I asked the same questions! We have many CBR mugs since 10 of us were there for the 2001 stay!! I am bringing our CBR mugs back when we go in Nov. We have used the ASMu mug as well. I got that one in 1995 and have used it since as well.

Yup, and I know for a fact that the ones sold in January 2000 at POFQ are "lifetime" mugs because it was my hubby's first Disney trip, my second in over a decade, and on our honeymoon. We bought the mugs specifically because of that because we loved POFQ so much, we thought we'd be back eventually. (instead, we joined DVC and for some odd reason every time I try to add one night on the front or back end of our trips, POFQ is all booked up on the special rate prices :( )

We lost one of our two mugs in our move from MN to TX five years ago, but we still have the other one. If we can ever get a stay in at POFQ, I'm definitely bringing it, lol.

Other than that one mug, we always get new mugs when we go, even if we have ones like the current ones at home...

No clue but I wouldn't buy used plastic mugs on ebay anyway to use. The mugs that were sold as forever were for the purchaser.

Those were never resort mugs and were only souvenier mugs. They have no value for refills, just like all the mugs out there that are not on their first use.

They still look like this...

I go to Disney every year in September. We were at the Beach Club pool and there was a person (waitress) walking around taking drink orders etc. I overheard her explaining to a guest that if they purchase the mugs then they can be reused forever. After the waitress person walked away I immediatly stopped her for clarification. She said that there was a recently undisclosed policy of being able to reuse the mug year after year. I was delighted to hear this since it was coming from a Disney employee. If the Disney employee was incorrect then she was misleading folks that she was selling the drinks to. SO, I have to believe this is true.

If that is the case, why do the mugs state right on them that they are only good for the duration of the trip and at the location they were purchased? One Disney employee does not make Disney Policy unless it's Robert Iger.

I'm also interested in what the mugs look like now.

they look the same as they have for 2 years now. sigh!

I think the employee was trying to "hint" at (and not so well), that if you have mug that looks exactly the sameas last year's mug, go ahead and use it.(didn't say that I said that!)

those of us who go every year wouldn't mind paying for a new mug if it didn't look JUST like the one we already have! who wants duplicate souveniers? (before I get jumped all over, I didn't say I don't buy new ones.. I said no one wants to pay for something that looks exactly like something they already have...

I agree. Purchasing new mugs when making multiple trips each year gets very old. We've run out of family to give our "pre-used" ones to. If this policy change is true then WDW is actually returning to an old policy from many years ago. I've often wondered if WDW couldn't do what one of the pizza parlors does in the town where my daughter went to college. They sell a refillable mug that is good for the year in which it is purchased. That would require WDW to change the design more often which may be an expense the company is trying to avoid to cut costs. Of course, like many of you, I remember the good old days of resort specific mug designs.
