As many of you know, Glass Artisan Dale Chihuly was commissioned to do the beautiful chandeliers hanging in the atriums of both the Magic and Wonder.

From the artist renderings of the chandelier of the Dream (and I assume Fantasy) it looks different and not the Dale Chihuly style. Anyone know for sure if the chandeliers will NOT be by Dale.....they are such a classic look I hate to see them go if that is the case.

We were told on our Art of the Ship tour that it had been commissioned by someone else I believe but the guy was going to check for us and never got back to us so not 100% sure.

I'm hoping to go to a Chihuly exhibit at Cheekwood Botanical Gardens in Nashville this weekend - he's amazing!

We saw his exhibit when it was at the New York Botanical Gardens and also always check out his stuff at the Bellagio in Vegas and at the Atlantis in the Bahamas when we are there....first time I walked into Bellagio and looked up it reminded me of stepping into the atrium on the Magic....love his stuff!!!

Sorry to hear his work may not be on the new ships.

If you ever get to Mohegan Sun in CT, they have a beautiful, huge sculpture that he did at the bottom of the escalator from the hotel lobby.

On a side note - several years ago my DW was on a business trip to Microsoft in Seattle and they went to his studio one evening for a private dinner and tour. She was amazed and thought it was a fantastic evening. Unfortunately, he was not there so she didn't get to meet him.

I've been wondering the same thing. It is hard to tell from the drawings, but they look different than what is on the Magic/Wonder.

If anyone from the Midwest wants to see a great Chihuly creation, visit the Children's Museum of Indianapolis. It is four stories tall.

Chihuly has done several exhibits here in Columbus, and a few pieces were permanently installed, both at the Art Museum, and at the Franklin Park Conservatory. The Conservatory exhibitions are fabulous, because the pieces get built into the botanical displays. Wonderful stuff!

Funny you should mention that. We went to a Chihuly exhibit at our local Botantical Garden, which was awesome. We were fortunate enough to hear him speak about his work and the works on display at the garden. We bought one of his books and was lucky enough to have him sign the book. This was about the same time that Disney announced the new ships. I specifically asked him if he was going to do the chandaliers on the new Disney cruise ships. He said he didn't know anything about it and than, half tongue and cheek, asked his assistant to call Disney!

I have seen the sculpture at Mohegn Sun and it is stunning.

Those were both AMAZING exhibits! We went to the Conservatory last year and the Art museum this year.

Gail, there's an exhibit right up by y'all at the botanical garden in Grand Rapids. We were going this summer, but family stuff got in the way.

We are huge, huge, Chihuly fans! Will be a little disappointed not to see his work on the new ships.

Anyone know for sure if there is or isn't a Chihuly on the Fantasy?
My nephew worked for him, and I would love to see his work up close if on Fantasy!

Are you aware this thread is from 2010?

Some people, after opening this thread and seeing that it's that old will not go to the end to see your question.

You might get a better response if you start a new thread.

As to the question, I don't know, our plans for a Fantasy cruise are a bit in the future.

:cutie:

As a Chihuly enthusiast, I can assure you that the chandeliers on the Dream and Fantasy are NOT by Dale Chihuly... not that they're not expertly crafted, but they're simply not his style. Who actually made them is unknown to me.

For anybody doing the Alaskan cruises out of Seattle this summer, be sure to check out Chilhuly Garden and Glass. A Chilhuly exhibit next to the Space Needle that is due to open up in May.

On that note, the chandelier (ceiling fixture) outside of Palo on the Dream looks like Chilhuly. Does anybody know if it is or not?

The chandeliers in the lobbies of the Fantasy and Dream remind me more of Tiffany glass.

I think the Dream and Fantasy's chandeliers are too uniformed to be by Dale Chilhuly.

His work is more erratic, but equally beautiful.

The Magic and Wonder's were a PITA to dust and maintain from what I heard! lol!

Ex Techie :)

Thanks for all the responses... I guess I will have to sail the Magic or Wonder to gt my Chihuly fix!

From what I have learned thus far, no neither the Dream nor Fantasy have Chihulys... The handelier I saw in a pic was inside Palo... The atrium chandeliers def have a Tiffany look to them...

I am glad to hear the his exhibits are worth seeing. There is an exhibit at the Dallas Arboretum starting in May and going to Nov. I am definitely going to see it.
