Seniors on DCL?

I don't mean high school seniors: I mean ages 65+.
How did you like doing DCL? Would you recommend it for people 65+?

And no, I'm not 65. I'm asking because my mum and I are most likely going on DCL next Christmas and are thinking of bringing my grandpa with.

My parents LOVED DCL! They did the 15 night Panama sailing and it was amazing. Sometimes they would join us, other times they would do their own thing. They've already booked 3 more cruises! They enjoyed the adults only pool, watched movies at the theater, and took part in the various activities onboard, including Bingo.

My mom loves it!!! She is 68. On her first DCL 4 years ago she went parasailing on CC! She loves: walking and lounging on the deck chairs on Deck 4; renting bikes for a leisurely ride on CC; chilling in an inner tube on CC, going to lunch at Serenity Bay; seeing the shows; reading her book at an early Topsider's breakfast on the deck; reading her book in the afternoon enjoying coffee at Quiet Cove; reading her book on a lounge chair by the deck pool; a massage and Rainforest Room time at the spa...

She's been on 4 DCL cruises now in 4 years! Our next is next summer for my Dad's 75th birthday. His favorite part of the cruise is just eating his way thru the counters by the pools -hot dogs at Pluto's, pizza at Pinnochio's... He can "take it or leave it" re: the cruise, but enjoys having dinner with the family (grandkids - we don't live close to my folks) every night, catching up with them during the day. He likes to hang out on the loungers on Deck 4 with his book. He and my brother may head to the casino at Atlantis in Nassau on our next cruise.

I took my mom on the Disney Wonder last October, a few weeks shy of her 68th birthday. She's not a Disney freak by any nature (in fact, she has been to WDW only twice in her life!), but it was a mommy/daughter weekend so she agreed. Well, she had the best time! We took it easy...did quite a bit of relaxing. She was so impressed with the top-notch service and just the overall beauty of the ship. Mom now wants to do another cruise on DCL!

My mom will be 67 for our first cruise in April. She has mobility issues so she'll be limited in what she can actually "do" but is looking forward to seeing the ship, shows, possibly leaving the ship at port or enjoying them from her verandah.

I am a senior and I have been on the Magic and the Wonder three times. It's okay but the ships are small and there are a lot of kids running around. I went on it with a GS, but don't think I would enjoy it as much without one. Also it lacks the casino and the good production shows that are aboard the other ships. The Disney shows are okay, but not all that entertaining, unless you are really into the characters.

For seniors if you have grandkids it is a great cruise as the kids provide most of the entertainment. Without the grandkids I think I would have been pretty bored.

My parents went with us on several DCL cruises and loved it - they were early to late 60's. They absolutely loved the shows in the main theater and found them to be very entertaining. They would have watched them twice each night if given the chance.
My dad was a gambler and he was a bit bummed with the lack of a casino onboard, but found other things to enjoy onboard. My parents were never bored and didn't find the ships over-run with kids running all over the place.

I am 65, and it is awesome. Of course I am not as old as some of the others mentioned....LOL. The shows are the top rated shows in the Cruise Industry, If you want a casino, go to Vegas, There is plenty to do to keep you busy. With the kids and grandkids it is great, and without the kids and grandkids, it is great. 11 Disney Cruise and I am still not tired of them. I won't cruise any other cruiseline.

And for the fun of it, we have a group called the Geezers. If we happen to be cruising together, or any of the group is aboard, we meet at Cove Cafe for laughs. (FOG; Federation of Geezers), LOL

I'm the other half of DrHug, a founding member of F.O.G.....we also took my mother on a cruise with us and since we are Geezers you can imagine how old SHE must be!! Well, sailaway she was clapping, waving her hands above her head, smiling like a kid. By Pirate Night she was doing the limbo with the servers. Yes, older folks can have lots of fun on DCL!!

We just did the WBTA and have 2 more booked. Yes, it is FUN!!!

My mom is going to be 79 this year. She did the 15 night Panama Canal with me (and Angie and Dennis!!!) She loved it... didn't want to get off and is thinking of all the cruises she can go on in the future...

& I am officially a GIT... (Geezer in Training...) (although SOMEONE here told me I was too young... )

My DW and I are fast approaching "Senior Status" and have been on 9 DCL cruises so far. We love it and plan to cruise on DCL for as long as we can.

Like Angie we took Annette's Mom on a cruise and she is really a senior. She had a great time! The crew was really nice to her.

Last January we took the in-laws (86 and 84) on their first ever cruise and now they are hooked. DH and I usually do a cruise every 3 years so they stay "special" and we don't stay too broke.

However we are going again in January with the folks. Dad kept saying "well, I'm 87 now and may not be around forever so we need to go again right away." And they wanted to take the Magic to Europe this past summer and then stay over there until it was time to come back. DH and I had to remind them that they may be retired but we're still working stiffs.

They have already asked if we are going to re-book on board again.

They liked that they got to go to different places without having to pack and move every few days.

When we were waiting for our hotel shuttle the morning of our last cruise, there was a group of about 10-15 Seniors who were sailing on DCL. I forget - it was something like their 8th(?) DCL cruise together! They all it!!!

I wanna be them when I grow up!

My husband is 73 and I am 70 and we have been on 5 Disney Cruises. #6 will be the maiden voyage of the Dream. We had never cruised any other line until last spring. We had a good time on Holland America, but Disney wins hands down for us. My husband uses a mobility scooter and since I recently shattered my right leg,I also will need a scooter to get around, but we are still going and will have a marvelous trip.
