We're consisting cat 7A - Deluxe oceanview stateroom with Navigator's Verandah on the Magic for a Feb, 2012 cruise.

Any thoughts on the Navigator's Verandah vs. a regular Verandah.

Would love to see some photos if anyone has any.

As you can see above there is a significant difference. The Navigator's Verandah staterooms have a solid wall with an open air porthole in them.

If you can book Staterooms 7620, 7120, 6634, or 6134 you will do infinitely better. These staterooms are unofficially known as the "secret verandah rooms" because they are sold as category 7 navigators verandah rooms, but their verandah is actually the equivalent of a more-expensive category 6 or 5.

I just went back into my reservation and was able to change our stateroom to7620. Now can you explain to me the difference and why these rooms are better and why they are considered the "secret verandah rooms"?

Thanks for your help, this is our first Disney Cruise and I'm trying to pick the right stateroom.

Awesome room! That was going to be my recommendation as well. I love that room and wish it slept 4!

The 4 "secret verandah" rooms are so named because they have the same verandahs with plexiglass railings as a Cat 5 (the 2 on Deck 7) or Cat 6 (the 2 on Deck 6), and originally used to be classified as regular verandahs until they were downgraded to Cat 7 because they have a slight obstruction up top on one side. If you look at a model or picture of the ship, you will see that the metal detailing on the ship is placed at an angle where the Verandah rooms meet the navigator verandah rooms. People complained that the metal passing across the top of those verandahs obstructed their view and made the verandah less desirable than the others.

Thanks everyone for your recommendations, we've decided to go with the 7620 stateroom. I'm really excited, now I have to wait till 2012.

Congratulations! Snagging one of those rooms is a great deal. :)

We love 7620. We've had it twice this year and will have it again next summer in AK.

You will find pics in the FAQ sticky under Virtual Stateroom Tours.

I've had 7620 booked twice. First one I had to give away on the upcoming Panama Canal (but I made sure a DISer got it). I have it booked again for the 8/23 Alaska, but will be moving that reservation to a 2012 cruise. Will I ever get to use this stateroom???? :lmao:Here's hoping my TA can snag it for a Wonder cruise to, oh, say.....HAWAII!???

.

I did find some photos of the "secret verandah rooms", it looks like a regular balcony except for the overhang. It's just my DH and I so that room will be perfect.

That would be the only difference between those and the cabin next door to them with the higher price tag. Enjoy your savings.

Another question:

I just paid my deposit and now I'm wondering when is the best time to move my reservation over to DU in order to pick up some on board credit.

Thanks

Well aren't you something special.:p

The Secret Veranda Rooms are DW and my favorite rooms too. They are very quiet and they guarantee you an "inside" station for the Lifeboat drill, a big advantage if the weather is chilly or very hot or if you just dislike standing around with a lifevest on. However, what fascinates me is that we were upgraded twice when we reserved those rooms, both last minute upgrades. For our 10/27/2005 cruise, we reserved room 6134 and were moved to the cat. 6 next door, 6132. That upgrade did not really make much difference since we hardly notice the obstruction at 6134. A little over 4 years later, we reserved 7120 for our 1/9/2010 cruise. This time we were not even informed about the upgrade in advance but, when we arrived to check in, we were in a cat. 4 room on deck 8. We would actually have preferred to be in the room we reserved (smaller but quieter) but it had already been assigned to others. I just cannot believe that the two upgrades are just a coincidence since we have never been upgraded when we did not have a secret veranda reserved. --Dave & Jackie

We like 6634 and put "no upgrades" on our reservation so that we do not get moved out of that room. Love being aft as well :thumbsup2
