My 3-night cruise that I have booked for next year in May is 1764.00 for an
8d. In 2012 the exact same cruise in May in an 8d is a little over 200 bucks more!!!

Another example- 3-night sailing

May 19, 2011 2 adults, 2 kids 15, 6, 5d-$2024.00-7 months to sail!!

May 17, 2012 2 adults, 2 kids 15, 6, 5d-$2144.00-opening day prices!!

Am I missing something or are the prices for the 2012 Dream and Fantasy high?

I checked prices for the 4-night Dream cruise in Feb. 2012 that's closest to our Feb. 2011 date, and it's also a bit higher than what we paid for 2011.

Feb. 27, 2011 - Cat. 11C @ $479 pp + taxes
Feb. 26, 2012 - Cat. 11C @ $496 pp + taxes

I agree. I definitely think the 2012 prices are higher, and that's surprising. I was really expecting at least a little bit of a price drop. I guess the new ship sold so well for 2011 that DCL thought they could increase the prices instead of dropping them, but I think that's a mistake - with 4 ships now, and sooooo many people wanting a 7 night instead of a 4 night. I'm thinking there may be some discounting at some point.

Yes, they are about $200 more, or so it seems to me from what we booked last year.

Totally agree. I know when I was looking at the eastern and western routes on the magic this year, it would be running my family around 3 grand. Now, on the fantasy $3700. I am suprised that the prices are so much more. I think something may give eventually.

I just wonder what the opening day cost for my cruise for next year was last year? It could even be a bigger price gap that what I am looking at now.

Well, for 2010/2011, you can't compare a 7 night SUMMER caribbean cruise. For example - our 2011 7 night Western in Oct is $3622 for Cat 7A secret verandah (well, we paid 10% less because we booked on board, but it's still listed the same price now) - 2 adults, 1 child. That is off season, so cheaper. The June 16 2012 on the Fantasy 2012 for cat 5E (so a little higher category) is ~$4300. I would expect summer to be more, because in July/Aug, it's even higher (like $5100).

HOWEVER, we did a 5 night DD this past Aug on the Wonder. Before we got FLR rates, it was $4900 for 2 adults 1 child in a Cat 7 (secret verandah) -- that is what we booked it as (FLR took it down to $2600!!).

To me, $4300 for a 7 night Eastern on the Fantasy in 2012 is much better than a 5 night for $4900!!!

Does anyone else not think that the prices for 2012 for both ships has not went up?:confused3 And I don't mean by just a little, but very noticeable.

That FL resident discount really took it down. I really hope a similar FL resident discount is offered for our 5 night cruise. Ours is costing $1972 (11C) for 2 adults and 1 child in April 2012. That is higher than other cruise lines but we think DD who'll be 5 1/2 when we go, will have a great time. What we do for our kids.

I have a DREAM JULY 2011, two 11A cabins booked for $3655 only 5 nights.

I found a FANTASY JUNE 2012, two 11A cabins, for $3900 for 7 nights! only $300 more for 2 more nights, I thought it was cheaper. This is the Eastern route.

I think they went up too. We had a dunny cruise for 2011 to switch to 2012. However, when we saw the prices, we are sticking with the 2 cruises in 2011 and we'll wait for a "deal" with DCL after that. Though I am sure we'll book at dummy cruise or 3 on the boat too..:P
Thinking that the Wonder will be the cruise ship with the specials next year..

Think of how much a gallon of gas cost when you were 16?

Why would you expect prices to not go up? Seriously.

Um, the law of supply and demand, maybe?

Well how about people are greedy by nature and corporations are expected to increase profit? This is why gas costs more and why cruises cost more.

Ya, but with this economy. I am surprised they are this high.

Especially with the addition of two new LARGE ships. I really am thinking that they will need to do at least SOME discounting, even if it's just more Florida resident or military rates than usual. I really was expecting that with the addition of the Fantasy (and the demand for the 7 nights) that the prices on the Dream would drop at least a little bit - or at least stay the same. Definitely was not expecting an increase.

Especially since the general consensus was that the prices on the Dream for 2011 were lower than the prices on the Wonder for 2010. (Again, law of supply and demand).

Exactly!

It'll be interesting to see how prices look for the Dream and the Fantasy in 2013.

I'm guessing the prices went up partially due to the fact that the Dream booked so well, but there are rumors that a good number of people booked the Dream and will switch their reservation to the Fantasy now that that ship will be doing 7 nights as opposed to 3, 4, or 5 on the Dream.

I tend to book on points (I know many people are against it) and DVC adjusted the points down for 2011 supposedly due to the fact that the points charts weren't accurate given cash prices and now the 2012 Dream cruise at the same time is 13% higher in points for the same length of time and same stateroom :confused3

I was all excited to book last week, but now I've decided to pass on the Fantasy in 2012 and wait to see if the points are better in 2013. I'm also hoping that the Fantasy will change their itinerary. 4 hours in Costa Maya with a little one kind of seems like a wasted stop. I was looking forward to going back to Key West.

July is always more expensive. Some states do not get out of school till the last week of June.
