Cat4A questions - noise?

We always booked Cat5A rooms on Deck 7 (Magic/Wonder), but on our upcoming cruises, we are considering Cat4A rooms (Dream/Fantasy/Wonder) since the kids grew a lot and we need more space.

My biggest concern with Cat 4 on Magic/Wonder was that they are on Deck 8, right below Swimming Pool/TopSider etc. On our last cruise, while everyone was having their Pirate Party on Deck 9, I took a quick stroll on Deck 8, and found most of the rooms very noisy - either from the engine (machine?) or I can hear noise from the pirate party.

If noise is a concern for me, should I book Cat 4 (or Deck 10 on Fantasy)? I am quite sensitive to noise and would need good night sleep, and if possible ~ sleep in on a lazy sea day :goodvibes

On our 5 cruises, we've been on Deck 8 4 times, and Deck 7 once. Only in the Roy Suite did we have a really significant impact from the noise above from Deck 9. In the other rooms, located more aft than the Roy which is more like forward midship, we sometimes heard noises if really noisy people stopped overhead to chat, and we had 1 room under the Topsiders deck that got noisy when they moved the chairs around, but those were generally daytime or mealtime noises that didn't bother us at night or even when the kids were napping.

The aft rooms do have some engine noise or vibrations, especially when they reverse the engines to turn or stop the ship when entering or exiting a port, but up on Deck 8, it's more subdued.

I'd look carefully at what's above (and below) the rooms you're looking at. I feel better if there are other staterooms above and below my room.

On the Magic in CAT 4 we booked 8004/8006 right under the Spa -- VERY Quiet and very little hallway noise. Only foot traffic was crew going to and from the Bridge and they are quiet (and the rooms between us and the crew door). We would book those forward rooms again in a heartbeat.

We were in 8094 in August on the Wonder and we did not have any noise from Deck 9. I think being aft is key because the Pirate Party is more forward and there isn't generally a lot of commotion at the Quiet Cove Pool.

We are in adjoining Cat 4 and Cat 3 cabins on the Magic in November that are right under the family pool area. I'm really concerned now that the Pirate Party is going to be super noisy and disruptive. (Our daughter is 6 and can't stay up that late, so she will be trying to sleep.)

Any reason why you want deck 10 when cat 4 rooms are on decks 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10?

Thanks everyone.

RAD - I will be on Wonder in 2011 (Alaskan) and Fantasy (2012).

For Wonder I have no choice since Cat 4 are only available in Deck 8
For Fantasy (which I booked this morning) - the gentleman on the phone quickly assigned me to 10098 without letting me know other availability. Since nobody sailed on Dream, I will keep this room until any other reports before switching to Deck 9 or 8, plenty of time. DW prefers to be on the same floor with laundry - let's see.
