Back of the boat on the Dream and Fantasy. Any thoughts?

We booked a Fantasy seven-day sailing for 2012 and requested a 6B. I was just checking out our location and found that we are on deck 7 in the very back of the ship. As I told my husband, I guess we will have no idea where we are going, but we will always know where we have been!

Anyway, has anyone stayed in a room in the back and do you have any comments about it. I know that since the Dream hasn't started sailing no one knows about the new ships but I know that they have these types of rooms on other ships. I can't remember if there are the same type of rooms on the Magic and Wonder. I seem to recall that those rooms are a higher category or accessible rooms because I think the balconies are bigger than we will have?

ANYWAY, I searched on here and all I found was the debate about the solid white balcony vs the railing. That really isn't as important to us as a good location.

If you have 7190 or 7688, it looks like you might have a more accessible stateroom configuration. The "back of the boat," or Aft, is not a bad place to be. We've only sailed Mid-ship and Forward but I would love to try Aft in the future. On the Magic/Wonder Aft staterooms are closer to Palo!

We have 7690, which looks to have a blank space (I'm guessing stairs) on one side! That would be nice unless people are going up and down all night, I guess.

We have been on five DCL trips and actually prefer aft, it will just be the first time that we've been in the VERY back! Looks like it should be quieter since there isn't too much of a reason for people to be back there, unless their room is there or they are just wandering around.

We just booked 6690 on the Fantasy, cat 6B, for April, 2012.
We sailed on Princess to the Baltics this past June, and we had a aft balcony. Its different, and the view is spectacular when leaving port.
I had 5190 but changed it to 6690 because we do not need a connecting
cabin. I'm happy.

We have 9672 booked on the Dream, for February next year and the same cabin booked for the Fantasy Maiden Voyage. The furthest aft we have stayed on the Magic and Wonder is a deck 7 Navigators verandah, on a Western back in 03 and we had no problems at all except for slightly more vibration from the engines. I chose 9672 because of what appears to be a larger balcony (white wall), no public spaces above or below, and the desire to try a cabin on the stern of the ship. I think it will also be quieter without all the traffic flowing by in the corridor.

No stairs back there next to you....it's just a wall. The room will be close to what the old Cat 5's were....but the balcony will be deeper.
I love the back of the ship!
It is much more quiet, as you said, because no one much goes wandering around back there.

I have a copy of the newest Disney Cruise Line Vacation book...the ones they give out at the travel agencies...and there's an artist's rendering of the aft of the new ships in the back. It looks like those balconies will have some plexiglass and wood railing...at the tops, but will be solid white metal where it meets the floor. So sitting down, short people (like me!) probably still won't be able to see the water, but taller people will. With the old design, where the railings were totally solid metal, no one could see if they were sitting down.

My daughter and I both have aft rooms at the very back, she really wanted to have one of those because we're thinking that the balcony's are a little bit larger then the others. I would have preferred the middle of the back but we're right at the end of the hallway on both sides. She's a double in her room and I'm a single but am trying to find someone to go with me so that I don't have to pay so much. I threatened my daughter that if I don't find anyone by the time the final payment is due that I'm going to have me switched to her room with her boyfriend, she doesn't like that idea but it would save me $1000. LOL

We're next door in 9674 but we're not sailing until May. I chose aft mainly for the panorama view. Should be an awesome experience!

I never even thought of that but I am super excited if it is... we are booked in 7191 (inside room). We have sailed near the small stairs before and to be honest, they are sooo out of the way that they aren't used much except for the Muster drill to get to Animator's Palate.

We considered rooms at the back but wanted a verandah w/ an inside room across. We almost booked 7681 & 7880. The DCL rep told me those rooms were directly across the hall from each other. I said: "What's that odd shaped rectangular thing there in between?" He went to talk to his superviser.

Those rectangular grey areas on the starboard side of Decks 6,7, 8, & a little one on 9 are WALLS. Could you imagine how upset I would have been if I had gotten onboard & my kids room was not directly across the hall.


There are very few rooms like you have on the magic where you can get an oceanview or verandah room w/ an inside room directly across.

To make matters worse, you really can't tell that those walls are there by looking at the virtual deck plans on DCL's website. I saw them because I was using the deck plan link in the FAQ sticky on the boards here that takes you to a 2 dimensional version. I really don't like the virtual ones at DCL's website - you just don't get enough detail to make informed decisions.

We have 7194 booked for June 2012 on the Fantasty too! If you stay in this room, can't wait to hear all about it. When we booked, they said this was dead-center in the back of the ship so I think it'll be pretty cool. Never been in the back before with balcony only mid-ship. At first I wasn't crazy about it, but we found this option was a good amount less than a mid-ship, glass balcony and thought it was worth a shot to save the money and still get the benefits of verandah.

I'm betting that some of those areas are crew rooms. There are a few inside rooms on some of the decks that are for crew....and also for their storage....vacuums, etc.

We are booked in 8676 for June 29th, 2012. Not sure about being so far back but I am sure it will be okay. Plus it is a connecting room and I wonder how loud that will be.

I had originally booked an aft cabin in the back on the Dream. But after sailing on another cruise ship this summer, I had to change it to something midship. When I was on the cruise I found the aft to be very rocky while at sea, and we were on the second largest cruise ship afloat. One of the restaurants is located in the aft section of the ship and while there I felt a lot of motion. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this while staying in an aft cabin. I told a friend I had an aft cabin and she got me all worried telling me that I would feel a lot of the ship's rocking motion in the back. I was so excited for the larger balconies and the wide open aft view...I would be interested to hear from other cruisers who have stayed in aft cabins if they felt the rocking motion moreso than other places on the ship.

The rocking motion depends more on the type of sea. I've been aft, forward, and mid, and sometimes have had bad motion in all of them, and sometimes in none. Just depends on the size of the waves.

My personal opinion, after all of these, is that forward is the worst for bad motion.

The noise with a connecting room isn't that much worse than any room where there's someone next door. There are two doors, so that helps, and I usually stick a towel under, or at the bottom of, the door for extra sound-proofing.
