NYC Times Square Disney Store opening event Nov 7th

I actually kind of forgot about it. I saw on twitter people refreshed the site until it opened, and it immediately went to sold out. What the heck?

I was pretty ticked off. Especially because I had to leave work and go to a wifi area to log into the D23 site. I'm not allowed to use the internet at work and I couldn't use my iPhone. Grrr.:headache: I logged in at 12:45 and hit refresh until 1:00 and when the link finally showed up, they were sold out! I really wanted to go. :sad2:

I missed out also. I was refreshing constantly because I had heard that some other D23 events sold out even before the announced time. As soon as I got it, I filled out my online info... and was sold out. Seconds. Really? The one NYC D23 event, and it comes down to seconds?
:furious:

I am so frustrated with D23 right now. It didn't recognize my account number (which I entered correctly) and then the event was sold out within minutes. This is finally the first D23 event in NY and this happens.

Maybe those of us who didn't get tickets should go in anyway and visit the store after the D23 event. LOL!

I feel the same; the one NYC D23 event and complete fail for me. So annoying.

Happy for those who are going, but I get a ping of frustration each time I hear of someone else going. :guilty:

*especially* when it's the same people who go to each and every D23 event anywhere. *ducks*

Another opportunity - albeit a limited one. Disney announced yesterday that they are having a contest to find one family to open the Times Square Disney Store.

Here are the details from Disney's official press release.

Disney Launches Online Search for Child to “Unlock Imagination” at Disney Store in Times Square

One Week Only to Enter Disney's Family.com Sweepstakes for a Chance to Win Ultimate New York Prize Package

Disney announces an online contest on Family.com to win a trip to the grand opening celebration of Disney Store's Times Square, New York City location on November 9 and a starring role during the star-studded opening ceremony. The crown jewel of Disney Store's slate of store openings around the world this year, the Times Square location will be celebrated with magical festivities including celebrity appearances, live musical performances, a parade of Disney's most beloved characters and interactive experiences storewide. Beginning October 19, Disney fans will have just one week to register online for the chance to join the fun in-person, win a $250 shopping spree, and have the distinction of their child taking the stage to turn the key to imagination and officially unlock the all-new Disney Store in Times Square. The lucky family will also meet award winning singer Jordin Sparks during a private VIP reception after she performs Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" theme song, which she rerecorded to celebrate the 2010 release of the Blu-Ray and DVD.

To participate, families should visit www.Family.com/sweeps/disney-store between October 19-26 and register for Family.com's Disney Store Times Square Grand Opening Sweepstakes. Details will also be shared on Disney Store's Facebook page and through its Twitter feed. One lucky family of four will be notified on October 27 and then set to pack their bags for a 3-day/2-night trip to New York City (November 8-10). See www.Family.com for complete details and official rules.

The lucky winners will join VIPs, celebrities, tourists from around the world and New York guests in exploring the magical new store. Centerpieces include:

• Two-story Disney Princess Castle complete with its "talking" Magic Mirror
• Colorful Lucite trees spring up throughout the store, showcasing custom Disney content
• Disney-Pixar CARS-branded Ridemakerz interactive custom car building experience
• Disney Store Theatre that allows guests to customize their experience by selecting their favorite Disney film clips, videos, classic animation and more

Does anyone know when the store will be open to the public? Also, it would have been nice to give the special 20% off coupon to all the d23 members and not just those lucky enough to get tickets.

I emailed D23 asking what time the store opened to the public. They said the opening time has not been decided. I would assume its 10AM.

I think there's enough demand to try to have a DISers meet there. The way I feel right now after the D23 fiasco, I'm in no rush to run over there for the opening.

I'm sure Nov 7 & 8 will be "soft openings" with Nov 9 being the big day.

However, Nov 7 is also when the NYC marathon comes through so Times Sq will be a mess!

Nah, I wasn't really interested on going Nov 7th, especially with the marathon.

I dont think the Marathon runs through Times Square. So there will be no street closures. I plan on being out of there before 1PM.

The marathoners are supposed to be having some sort of party afterwards. Which means alot more people packed into Times Sq than normal. Which means it'll be a mess.

I'm thinking either to go in a the soft openings or wait until the weekend after. And there better be Vinylmations left!!! LOL.

I also want to go in to see Elf the Musical, so I may try to combine all these things. :goodvibes

It is supposed to open on 1pm on Nov 9th to the general public.

There are celebrations starting at 9am, but don't know what that means - perhaps senior management & press tour. ??
