Maybe Some Other Time...

After MAJOR discussion, we've chosen to cancel our Disney Cruise and book a Carnival Cruise.

We just find it a little too expensive for us. :sad2:

Maybe some other time, DCL. :headache:

Are you only able to travel during peak times? We have sailed once on Disney and got an amazing deal...10 nights less than $571 pp and almost $200 OBC per person!! With 2 more VERY large ships coming out, there will undoubtedly be good deals...I hate to say it, but with today's economy, the number of foreclosures out there, the number of bankruptcies and credit worthiness dropping at tsunami rates....they will HAVE to make incredible deals available...I do think it will pick up, but honestly, I believe it will take 10 years to climb out of this fiasco our overleanding, over spending society has taken us...the advantages are things will cost a lot less, that means that Carnival will probably even have better deals...but if I can get a deal, I'd rather cruise Disney....hope you find one!

Tara-
Just curious- when did you get that great deal, in my experience the price goes up the closer to sailing. Are you also a florida resident?
I am asking because I would LOVE to find one of those deals.

I booked it 7 months before the cruise started...it was the Mediterranean cruise in May...they offered kids sail free, then they had a week where they allowed you to book kids sail free AND $999 per adult..so for two category 12 (which got pixie dusted up to cat 9) rooms with 7 people in them we got a deal, then we received more pixie dust b/c Disney gifted us with $100 pp OBC and we had OBC for transferring ressie to a travel agent and booking initially online with Disney...we even paid with our Disney Visa but they told us they would not honor that since we had all the others...

We also got Kids sail free for 7 night Mexican Riviera...I think we're paying $3300 for 7 on that one, still not bad!! Only $50 OBC but it's good! :)

I think the key is being able to travel in the low seasons, although the MR is during spring break and probably filling up, but then again they have all the negative press about Mexico to contend with....

Deals are there...and I feel there will be many more over the next 3 years.

I have been looking for 7 years for deals, no notable ones until last year, we had a family of five so I really didn't think we could travel inexpensively since we'd either need 2 rooms or cat 4 or higher....

Glad I came to this website!! :)

I hope the Fascination is better than the Sensation was. After 4 DCL cruises, we gave that one a try and for a change, were actually happy when the trip was over. Due to some issues, Carnival gave us a 15% off coupon on a future cruise...which will likely just be thrown away.

Just remember..."You get what you pay for"

I so agree about carnival. We took a carnival cruise for our honeymoon years ago before I was a disney nut. I would not go again. Disney is pricey but the quality is usually exceptional.

I wont forget our first disney cruise, we got off the elevator and the music was the water song that the little girl sings in the jungle book. My hubby looked at me and said "good thing we like disney" and my DD proceeded to sing the song for a while after that. We still remark on that. I think it wont matter what cruise you go on ifyou are not a big disney fan.

Back to second post- I guess the deals are there I just never seem to find them.:sad2: Lucky you!

I've heard Carnival can be ok...and even quite good if you book the 7+ day cruises. The 'Fantasy class' ships they use on the 3/4 trips are garbage and should be sunk somewhere to make an artificial reef. :)

I've currently only been on one cruise, with Carnival, and thought they were great -- but I also have no other cruise line to compare it to.

The thing about cheaper lines, not only is the service not as good, but they nickel and dime you so much that you lose your savings. A big one is beverages - if you plan to drink anything other than tap water or tea, you can end up with a bill over $100 per person. Want a steak? Pay up!

We ended up paying so much less on our DCL cruise than our NCL cruise because of just that, so be careful.

I understand that a 7-night cruise on Fantasy costs more than a 4-night cruise, but do you have to cancel the Dream?

A way to deal with the paying for sodas and drinks on Carnival is your allowed to bring your own onboard.

I think you will be just fine. A lot of people forget there are a whole lot of nice ships out there that are not DCL and loe and behold- people love them!! ;)
Don't be disappointed and look forward to how much fun it will be. Just keep an eye on DCL cause maybe the prices will come down and you can choose if it is worth it.
Good Luck!

I thought I read that they will not allow that at all.

One of the reasons why I gave in(easy) when the wife said DCL. DCL allows you to bring anything you like.

Ditto! We sailed a 7 nighter on the Splendor which I believe was Carnival's newest ship at the time and it pretty much sucked compared to Disney. I'd have to be hurt up for a cruise to try Carnival again any time soon. I know some people love Carnival but it just wasn't for us.

I've done Carnival, RC and Disney. Personally, the boats are all similar, food was cold on every buffet, bingo, shows etc....they are all the same. RC offered the best "service" from the waiters, room stewards etc. Carnival's kids club was amazing. Disney has the mouse.

I would do Carnival again in a heartbeat. Some of the deals on them are amazing!

I did just book another Disney however; that is because my 13 year old expressed that he liked it better that the others. I figure, there only young once....it's about them now, not me.

I am a big believer in attitude. You can have a good time or a bad time, we control that. Truly the dumpster view at VWL is still better that the view from my office :)

You can take it. People were carrying 12 packs of soda, beer, water on with them. I bought 1 soda card for $35.00 (I believe)...not sure that we got our $$$ worth for it.

Really? Cold? Weird, that's not how it's suppose to be, is it? :confused3

Prices for drinks on Carnival are high...that's how they get'ya.

I'd rather bring an extra bag filled with soda's, beer for my dad, grenedine (I like my shirley temples! ;)) etc.

The prices for photos on Carnival are high, too!

I took a 3 night this summer on Carnival and it was good. My kids (twins 5) really enjoyed it and even though it was an older ship it was good. Not great but good. I would definately travel Carnival again (on a newer, bigger ship) and definately would travel Royal Caribbean on the newer ships. Go in with the right attitude and enjoy a vacation you can afford.:thumbsup2
